i started another piece this morning to fulfill the need to stitch something on a smaller scale like 22 count over one doing dragon game (a free download from the heaven and earth website from wilmar minnesota..they have the most awesome patterns for sure and i love the dragons) anyway it will be about 4X4 when it is done and will be in a few days i just needed a break from the really large sample 230 X450 stitches..lol the lady mary

Hi!!! I joined a year or 2 years ago. Got sidetracked, lost interest. Then now. Im hitting the treadmill for almost a week now and quit soda cold turkey since nov 28th. So far taking alittle step by step. Drinking water has helped me feel quite better then I started to decided to eat right and taking multivitamins. Lost 10 lbs so far and just thrilled finally! Have about 60 more left to go and my goal is to be reach by summertime in July on my 30th Bday, i hope! So I am hearing impaired married to my wonderful deaf hubby. Have 3 hearing girls and boy they are a handful!!! Hope to hear from u all! I could use some support or a support spark buddy.

oh boy i see a real run here i was on one of those the summer before last with the posse_page and we turned over the run every few minutes and if you went to the bathroom or to get a drink you missed and it took 15 minutes to catch up again with all the other stuff going on..alas someone made a 'power' play and the game sort of fizzled but we went strong for a bit and the team still exists but not with as much fun as was had and then i still ride my camel clyde so it has never really stopped for me nothing like spreading light and joy and having wild fun doing it the lady mary posseing through on the ever-faithful camel clyde

Mary, thanks for your kind words about me posting. It's wonderful to see this team coming alive again!
Those of you looking for work and being up against a wall because of not being able to hear the phone, etc....PLEASE remember ADA is on your side (if you live in the US). Seek out your local dept of rehabilation counselor for the deaf (most counties have this-if you aren't sure how to locate this, let me know and I'll help you). If you feel you've been discriminated against by an employer, contact your state Office of Protection and Advocacy. Again, I'll help you find yours.
I'm a mental health therapist and I do a lot of case management, which includes advocacy for my clients. What some of you have been through is often the reason people seek mental health counseling/support. It is so mentally draining/debilitating to go through feeling oppressed on the job or sad/depressed because you can't hear your child. I lost more hearing about 12 years ago and grieved for awhile because I couldn't understand my children well and I could no longer enjoy music. It takes strength and willpower to get through these obstacles we experience.
Weight loss...Mary is consistently the top fitness person on our team! She is always in first place in fitness minutes! :-) The way to weight loss is both exercising and making sure you eat well. Eating well: it DOES matter which calories you consume. If you consume 1200 calories and some of those are cookies (or whatever your weakness is), it WILL matter. It makes it harder to lose weight. If you are in menopause, it is doubly difficulty to lose weight (ugggghhhh). Drink your water, track your food, TRY to exercise at least 10 min (more is better!) daily. Jump on the team boards (please jump on this one!!) and talk about your experience, frustration, questions, etc! We are here for each other. That's what makes SP work so well. I lost 2 pounds this past holiday season-first time in years I've lost weight during the holidays! SP helped keep me in check.
It's great to see all the responses today!! :-) Keep it going....I'll start a "Chat" thread for us to just talk about whatever.....

i have never heard my son's voice..and one of the things on my list would be just to hear him when he was born and to have heard him sing silent nnight solo in church this past christmas alas that is not something that will ever happen so i will be content with what is you shoulda heard the 'hush' that came over the congregation as he sang by himself totally unplanned..35 years old and yet another facet of him i never knew about when you're deaf you can 'feel' the hush what wonder that was the lady mary

Thanks for all the replies!
I am 30, married with two kids and two furbabies. I've likely been hoh my entire life, and no one caught it. I started wearing a hearing aid abut 5 years ago, but my hearing has progressively gotten worse. I just had a ct scan done recently, and it seems my hearing loss is in my cochleah. This past fall, I went through a major depression, I lost my job because of my hearing loss, and then lost more jobs because of my frustration from it.
I'm finally working again, and I am trying to get disability coverage. I don't care about the money, it's the benefits I need because I can't seem to keep a job long enough. My husband works for an American company, so he doesn't get benefits.
Anyway, that's about where I am at. My biggest fear is never hearing my kids voices again.

you know you can do it all the stuff here at sparkpeople works and i post daily and spend lots of time here and am in love with all the success that comes out of the site
log your foods and how much for a week and see what that tells you about calorie intake i was shocked as i thought i wasn't eating a whole lot but everything counts i lost my weight on 1200-1600 calories a day..far more than i ever knew i could eat for sure if you don't eat enough you won't lose..the body goes into starvation mode and stores everything (of course as fat) i didn't lose weight until i made myself do the calories the doc told me to he was right and i waas wrong for years stop the fast food if you are doing that and you gotta weigh and measure everything BUT IT WORKS there is no diet here at sparkpeople it is a way of life by being healthy and treating our bodies to the things it needs to thrive it's not easy sometimes when we spend our whole lives and have nothing to show for it except bad feelings about not being what we perceive ourselves to be i was sure at 1200-1600 calories a day i would be big as a house in no time at all but then the first week found myself down 4 pounds (coming off 800-1000 a day and not losing anything for years lol) i eat from salad plates because they make those portions look huge and i don't fast food anymore and i'm proud of the fact that i can drive right by those places and come home and fix my own hamberger without all the grease in my lean gtilling machine ot takes time to 'alter' a set way of life but it can surely be done here for you the lady mary

welcome to the team i also am here when the team notices pop up..been deaf my entire life and have 'hearing speech'..although it is a little more formal because i have a hard time picking up slang and stuff like that i wear no devices and don't sign but i do ok..swear at the news when they don't close caption all of it and i have friends and most of them are very patient about repeating themselves constantly so i can lip read but it's ok the world is really noisy as i can really feel those vibrations from it hitting me sometimes i find myself in full retreat when it gets really bad so welcome i'm here also every time there's a notice for sure and kathy is always here too and has all kinds of articles and goes all kinds of awesome places in search of wonderful things hugs the lady mary

Lori-the group is not as active as it was, but people do jump in from time to time! Glad to see you here! :-) Welcome and do jump in and ask any questions you have. I'm deaf, but speak very well and just got a CI nearly 2 years ago. I wore a hearing aid before that most of my life.
