Hi everyone! My name is Michelle. I have been happily married to a great guy for 15 years. I have been heavy all my life. My weight has gone up and down (mostly up). I did get within about 30 pounds of my goal weight about 16 years ago but now that weight isn't even in view....yet. I am 2 years away from turning 50 and am determined to be fit, fabulous and fifty. I am looking foward to getting to know all of you!

~~ Michelle ~~

Don't waste your time with "could've," "would've" or "should've." Focus on "can," "will," and "do."

Time will pass no matter what .... will I be closer to or farther from my goals

Its not that some people have willpower and some dont. Its that some people are ready to change and others are not. Finally, I am ready to change!

Hi, my name is Kristina. Living w/ my hubby & 2 doggies in southern New Mexico. Working part time and going to school for computer networking (3 more semesters to go) I signed up for Spark People about 2 years ago and never really did anything with it. I've been diagnosed with pre diabetes & high blood pressure and decided I finally need to get off my behind and lose weight. Right now I'm at 221, I want to get to 150. I'm starting out slow - taking the dogs for a daily walk & going to the pool w/ my hubby. For me , changing my eating habits is going to be a much bigger challenge than starting to exercise.

Hello! My name is Catherine (you can just call me Rinky) and I have been a member here for a long time! The best is that I have never been back to that start weight, although I have been up and down with weight and always dreaming of being skinny. I now know that I just want to be healthy and feel good and be able to move well. I am counting on all of you to help me, and I will help you, too!

PS, I am your new Spark leader, so please add me and let me know if you want to chat!

Happy health!

Hi everyone! My name is Victoria. I'm not a newbie to SparkPeople. I used it for a few months last year and managed to lose 15 pounds. But then I fell off the wagon after I fractured my ankle and was forced to wear a boot for over a month. I ended up gaining back 12 lbs of what I lost. I'm back again to continue that journey.

I'm 22 years old, recent college grad from the beautiful San Francisco Bay Area, but grew up in Los Angeles. I've been overweight my entire life and I want to take advantage of my youth so that I can make changes that will make the aging process easier in the long run. I have a boyfriend I've been seeing for nearly 4 years, and 2 dogs. I am a lover of books, TV, politics, cooking, and wine.

My big goal is just to get under 200lbs, but I know that will take time and I'm ready to be patient. Please feel free to contact me if you have questions, tips, need a friend, or need a pep-talk!

Have a great day everybody!

Hi, team! I'm Jen. I'm 29 and I've been overweight most of my life. Year by year, though, that has been changing. I've been on my weight-loss journey for a long while, but I slowly see results as I improve my relationship with food, with exercise, and with myself. I currently weigh less than I did in middle school, high school, and college, so I'd call that a huge win. emoticon

Hi, I have just joined sparkspeople, I am 52, living in Ayrshire and I have decided to get fit & healthy this year, having been seriously overweight all my life. I am addicted to carbs and I am an emotional eater, so any effort will require a lot of willpower to stay on track. This time I am taking it VERY slowly and not calling it losing weight or dieting as that is too negativly emotionally charged for me. Hope I'll find some support here to keep me on track....

My name is Johnathon. I am 34, single, and going back to school for a Second Bachelor's degree, living in Utah. Most of my details are on my sparkpage and in my recent blog post (as well as my first blog post from 2008). I joined SP in 2008, got down to 169 (which is still technically overweight for 5'6") but am back now at 280... Long story...I am just tired of doing everything on my own.

Ht: 5'6"
Heaviest Weight: 278 (December 28, 2013)

Short-Term Goals:
250- Weight at beginning of 2013
230- I can fit back into specific clothes
200- My life feels much better
184- No more BMI Obese
170- Weight when I broke my ankle
154- Normal BMI category

I reserve the right to adjust these goals as deemed necessary.

Hi everyone. My name is Nicole and I started gaining weight when I was 10 years old. I hit my highest weight ever about 2 years ago, and I am down 27 pounds since then. I have been gaining and losing the same 5-10 pounds for months now, and I am committed to finally breaking below this barrier. Right now, I am focusing on eating more fruits and vegetables and walking on my treadmill. My goals are to lose 50 pounds by my husband's birthday in June and then be below 200 by my birthday next December. That gives me just under 13 months to lose 70 pounds. I have not been below 230 as an adult, so we will see how it goes.

One pound at a time, one mile at a time, one inch at a time - I will get there.

Hello everyone! My name is Kristi and I'm in Southern California. I have been on and off diets since I was 9. I was in dance and my teachers said I needed to lose a few pounds, my doctor didn't agree. My mom somehow got a doctors note and I started Weight Watchers. When I started dieting, I started gaining weight and have been battling it ever since. I am now 35 and I want off this roller coaster. I need to lose a total of about 95 pounds. I started at 230 (probably more, but didn't want to step on the scale), have gone up and down the same 15 lbs for the last two years.

I have only kept about 5 pounds off. I gave myself a 67 day challenge, as that's the number of days left in 2013. My goal is to be aware when and where I am eating (i.e. not in front of the TV) and stay within my calories for the day.

I am looking forward to hearing your successes and accomplishments as we go through this process together!

Don't ever let anyone else but YOU define your self-worth.

Hi my name is Tracy. I have 4 sons. I had my first at 16 and gained 75 pounds with him, and haven't lost it since. I had 3 sons in three years which didn't do anything to help the situation. Now at 41, my eldest turns 25 next week, I decided last Christmas I was done being fat. I was at 256 pounds. I have lost 79 pounds so far, still have 40 or so to go. I will do it! I realized my efforts before I was only doing because I was suppose to, but never really wanted to. This time, I have decided I am. No ifs and or butts. I WILL weight less than my sons (who are all taller than I am by a good 6 inches). I WILL get down to "normal" sized clothing. I do have thyroidism, which is not helping with loosing weight. I did have diabetes, but as I started loosing weight it went back to pre, then metabolic, and now nothing! I will always be counted as diabetic, but now diet controlled, which is awesome. My sons 24, 23, 22 and 16 are very supportive, my ticker lists my goals, and I am so close! I need to get 2 more pound off and I will be the lightest in my household, which I have NEVER had in my life. Ever, I think that excites me more than the clothing, as I have already lost so much but have seam little improvement in the shrinking of clothes. I think that's due to the belly I have left over from the boys. I also have 3 brothers, and being the heaviest of all these guys (husband included) doesn't make me feel good. Right now, I have 2 left, 1 brother and 1 son, and I will be the lightest. Unfortunately I broke my ankle at the beginning of the summer and didn't know it, so now it is taking forever to heal. I weight less now than I did when I had my first baby. And I haven't weighed that since I was 16-17.
I find it easier to break it up into small goals, and aim for that goal. I will get to the big picture when I reach my last small goal, until then I am working on only this goal, so I don't get overwhelmed, or lost. Next goal? To weight less than my 23 yo army EMT uber healthy, fit son! I know he's almost 6 ft and I am barely over 5, but that doesn't matter yet lol. Normally I am very laid back, but this time, I need goals, it's not a competition, but something to aim for. And I want it! I love the way they encourage me to get weight with them, so I have solid goals to aim for, and am not able to blame the difference on the different scales.
Blessing to all,

Proud mom of a Sailor
Proud mom of a Soldier
Proud mom of a future Marine

Hi everyone, New to the team, but definitely not new to the site. I've been off and on for a few years now. I've always felt "fat" my whole life, especially when I was surrounded by stick thin friends who were in dance, and several who were hospitalized for being anorexic. Several years ago, I made some very poor decisions that had a profound impact on my life, and even now I realize I still have a lot to work through.

A year and a half ago, I finally found a doctor who recognized that most of my issues were, at the bottom, hormone related. So we did some tests, diagnosed me with stage three adrenal burnout, put me on a gluten/soy/dairy/processed food free diet and I was more than impressed with the results.

Unfortunately I let that slip and after two years of sitting at a desk and being more sedentary than an inanimate object, I've got a lot to make up for. I'm currently somewhere around 230 pounds, but not entirely sure. More than just losing weight, I want to stop feeling like crap all the time. It's really scary, and I'm wary of failing again, but I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired.

Hello, I am Jen. I have been overweight for as long as I can remember. Chubby kid, obese teenager and college student, and overweight adult. Weight loss has been a life-long struggle for me. After college, though, I was able to lose 50 pounds and have been able to keep it off (with a small yo-yo here and there in between) for the past five or so years. I still have a way to go to reach my healthy body weight: 40 pounds. It's been a slow process over the years. I think this is because my self-image has a lot to do with my weight, and it's a little intimidating to imagine myself as "thin."

But I am still moving forward. I look forward having this group as support as I continue my journey!

Hello everyone, my name is Karli-Marie and I too have been in a battle with weight my whole life.

I am currently serving as a Peace Corps volunteer in Eastern Europe. I am recently married to an amazing man I met while in-country.

I am a Sparker from waaay back. I joined in 2008 and lost over 70 pounds with the help of SparkPeople, and maintained that weight for over a year. Then, I fell off the wagon.

When I came to the Peace Corps I wanted to focus on enjoying the experience and not counting calories, and in doing so I ended up putting my health on the back burner. I know, it sounds like a lame excuse to me too. Needless to say, I've gained a lot of the weight back, and recently found out that my cholesterol is quite high as well. So, I'm starting my journey again.

I'm trying not to focus so much on the setback and just think of this as a new start. I'm already armed with the knowledge and tools I need, I've done it before so I know I can do it again. Now I just need to put myself to the test and get back to making my life a happier healthier endeavor.

I look forward to 'meeting' you all.

Hello everyone! ^_^
My name is Meagan and I live in Salt Lake City Utah. I'm 30 years old and ready to take control of my life.
I've always been overweight, and can't recall a time I was able to look down and see my feet. I'm done being exhausted all of the time, done being in pain because of the strain to my poor overworked joints, and done being down on myself. Time to get motivated, be happy and healthy and have fun doing it.

Hi I'm Shell, 48 and from New Zealand. I have two children , my son is 26 and my daughter is 16. We have a house full of pets. Four cats, four rabbits, two chihuahua's,and a budgie.
I have been overweight since I was a small child. I had a differcult childhood of truama and abuse. So grew up a pretty mixed up kid who is a compulsive eater. I am overweight because I am emotionally pretty scarred. As a child I learnt to block my feelings and differcult situations out , until it became second nature. If i hadn't learnt that technique I could be much more messed up. Food is my drug, but I am glad I didn't resort to alcohol or drugs instead.
I have been on more diets and weight loss ventures than I could even begin to count. The first one I ever started was when I was 13 and was going to starve. I was told that was not a good way to lose weight. And have been yo yoing ever since. I have either been "being good or not being good".
I have been working on myself for many years. And it was about 8 or 9 years ago I began confronting my past. And in that time I began to start opening up. Before that I couldn't have been any more shy and self conscious if I tried. I just very seldom talked . But now I am pretty open, even too much sometimes.
I found spark last year and didn't stay for long. But I came back ready to try again. And this time I will succeed. I will work at it until I achieve my goal.

Hello. My name is Meredith and I'm 29. I'm a box office manager for a Chicago-area theatre. I've been big all my life. Came out of the womb at 10lbs. I'm a single cat lady, and okay with it. My weight has never seemed to be a deterrent to dating, but the love of my life is my cat.
I have great reservations about being skinny. I wouldn't know how to be in the world, and I really like my clothes. But healthy? Healthy I can work with. Being able to run for a bus or climb the L platform without getting winded would be delightful.

Hi everyone. I'm Amy. I'm 42 and originally from Nebraska. I have two wonderful kids, a husband who I love despite him driving me crazy and a variety of animals in the house. I have PCOS and, even though they haven't seen docs about it, I'm willing to bet most of the women in my family do as well. My weight has gone up and down over the years, but I've never been the "right" weight. Frankly, when it comes to the bmi I'm willing to go for slightly into the overweight area. People who see me eat always comment on how little I'm eating (and this is when I'm not dieting). It is as if it is a giant shock for them that someone as heavy as me isn't eating more. When I cook for my family, the food is divided out with a big portion for my husband and my daughter who is going through a growth spurt and I eat about as much as my 8 year old. I'm just starting optifast to bring my weight down and make it easier to exercise more. I did it once about 9 years ago and got down to 150 pounds and it regulated my hormones. (Of course, once the hormones were regulated I conceived my son so that weight loss and activity went right out the door) This time I am doing this just for me and not worrying about fertility issues (we've got one of each and we are done). I'm hoping that this will not only help me, but help some of the other people in my family. When the doctor asked if there were other people who were overweight in my family, I asked if I could just say everyone.

If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant. If it did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome.

Hi Everyone! My name is Rachel and my husband and I live in Vicenza, Italy. We're originally from the Midwest. We both work for the Department of Defense and they transferred us about three years ago. I'm a HS English teacher and currently have the summer off. I've been able to focus on my weight-loss goals this summer and seem to be doing quite well. I have a lot of weight to lose, but I know it's not going to come off overnight. I've had a weight problem since I was 7 years-old, so it's going to take me awhile to lose it, but I'm gradually making progress.

Hi, I'm Faith, I live in NYC with my husband and dog. We're both teachers (me and the hubs, not the dog) so I have some time off this summer to work on my weight and health goals. After nine wonderful years of marriage, we are finally ready to start a family, and weight loss is a big part of my family planning. I've yo yo dieted a lot, lost sixty pounds twice in my life and subsequently gained it back, and am afraid I wrecked my metabolism with a 500 calorie a day diet a while back, but I am brand new to sp and ready to start again!

Hi! I'm Kacey and I live in Massachusetts. I'm a college sophomore who has been suffering with being overweight ever since my father passed when I was young. I used eating as coping mechanism and ended up gaining all of this weight. I just recently hit 200 pounds which was a huge reality check for me since lately I have been letting my emotions dictate what I eat. This instantly kicked me in the butt and got me motivated to lose weight. I want to feel confident in my own body. I want to be healthy and fit. I am finally ready to start that journey.

Hey,
I'm Amber. live in Maryland. I used spark people quite a few years ago, and it helped me drop about 40 pounds. Even then, I was still considered overweight but I was a lot healthier back then than I am now. I never know what to say in these introductions. Pepsi and fast food are by biggest roadblocks, because I have a very hectic life and I need cheap and convenient foods. I have been doing zumba once or twice a week for a few months now, and it has helped me learn that a few sessions of group exercise each week are good for me, compared to exercising alone all of the time.

Hi. I'm Gail, a new-ish mom (my son is 10 months old). My lowest weight as an adult was two years ago, when I was almost down to 170. I got frustrated on a long plateau, gave up on my good habits, backslid, got pregnant, and gained about forty pounds back of the hundred or so I lost. I don't know if it's possible for me to get down to what the BMI chart considers a healthy weight, but for now I just want to be under 200 for the rest of my life. I'll work on the next step when I get there.

Finish each day and be done with it. - Emerson

Hi, I'm Ana. I'm 25 years old, a grad student in California, and yet another person here who has pretty much always struggled with weight. I've been smaller than I am now, in the past, though. This Sparkpeople reboot is my ... many-th attempt to make the site work for me and help me lose weight and get healthier, and STAY that way. The main thing I didn't do in my previous SparkPeople attempts was really connect with the community part of the site -- so I'm trying to do that this time, and hopefully that'll be the missing piece I needed to keep myself motivated and on track to my goals. :)

Hi everyone! :) I'm Ashley. I'm a 24-year-old newlywed in Virginia. I joined SparkPeople this weekend after a couple of weeks of working out with a friend and blindly trying to modify my eating habits!

I've never been skinny; I'm short, and at my most "ideal" weight (a summer that I worked in NYC and walked everywhere) I still had some "pudge". :) Not to mention I've gained some weight since getting married last summer and I really just want to be fit and healthy.

Aside from sparking, I'm a nanny for a local family and I work with my local Humane Society and their homeless cats! :)

Hi, I am new to this group. Have been on Sparkpeople for a while. But just found this group. I have been over weight since I was 9yrs old. By this time I was 13, the dr. put me on my first diet, because I had high blood pressure. I lost 25 lbs and keep it off until I was 17, by walking to get my mom's news everyday. That was a total of 3 miles. Sometimes a friend and I would just walk around, sometimes up to 8 miles. Then she got married and I started gaining it back. Then I got married and didn't do any walking much and then by the next year I was pregnant and gained 5o more lbs and a couple or years later, I was pregnant again and gained 30 lbs, There began the yo-yo dieting, until I yo-yoed to 303 lbs, my top weight. It seemed like every 10 yrs, that I could only hold my weight at a certain point. In my 20's, I gained, and 30's I gained more, in 40's and so on. I will be 57 yrs old on June 3. Want and need to lose this weight for my health and myself. 2 heart attackes,a diabetic and a bad knee. Have more health problems, but these are the ones that exercise will bother. So mostly walking, but I am losing the weight slowly, but surely. If it wasn't for my loving husband, who loves me thick or thin, I don't know what I would do. He is my rock.

All my life I've been the tall girl, the bigger girl in my classes. I was extremely active, but always been the tallest up until my 9th grade was painful I didn't stand on the bleachers during picture day, I stood next to them for several years.

In Junior high, my body developed in ways that at the time nobody realized was a problem. I had very large breasts, (top heavy, size 16-18) but I wore a size 8-10 jeans. It really looked very odd. I played Volleyball, Basketball, Track, Swimming.

When I graduated I weighed 176lbs - 6' tall
I stopped being athletic, but didn't cut back on how much I was eating and I didn't add a daily exercise program in.
My first child I gained a lot of weight, and then had a heck of a time getting back down to 200lbs
Over then next 30 years I gained over 100 lbs, sounds like a lot but that's only 3-4 lbs a year but now, it added up.

I started back working out in 2008 to get at that time down from 285 - 200. I broke my foot in 2009 and was on-off working out. I had managed to get down to 262 - and work cut into my freetime.

At the end of last year I put my foot down, reclaimed my free time and basically started back with Sparks. It still is hard, and still not sure I will ever be back to even 200 but at least I want to get back to 262 where I wasn't feeling so tired.

Hi! I definitely belong in this group. I have never been skinny a day in my life! I am 43 years old and a mother of three, including two healthy "skinny" teenage girls who like sports. When I was a teen, I hated sports, and was a classic couch potato. So I guess I must be doing something right as a parent!

It wasn't until adulthood that I can say I really liked exercise. I do like dancing, especially alone and to my favorite kinds of music, and I also love taking long nature walks, sometimes with my dog. My husband and I like to go kayaking in summer, something I should do more often because it really works your arms!

Although I have been overweight most of my life, I can tell you there were years in my life where I WASN'T. And those years, looking back, were the happiest ever because I felt GOOD about myself and the hard work in exercising and eating in moderation. Looking at pictures taken of me when I was at a healthy weight (like 135-145) I can just kick myself for gaining the weight back! Why do I do good for almost a whole year, then something happens, I lose motivation and stop exercising! I don't think my body will see 135 again like in my early 20's or age 30-31. But 145 and size 10 is possible again if I can just keep it up and not stop! I can do this journey! It is only 33 pounds and that is not even that much compared to so many others here Sparkpeople. I have never been excessively obese, just overweight/low end obese. I need help to stick with this!

Hi
My names is Kathy and I have been overweight since I was 10 years old. I am 50 years old (51 in June) and had given up all hope of ever losing weight. I have multiple (non weight related) health problems that make weight loss difficult. I have been here on SparkPeople for 4 1/2 weeks and have lost 3 lbs! It may not be fast or easy but it will happen! I am chasing that bunny and I will win!

HI everyone My name is Dawn , 46, married, three kids 21, 19, 15 . I live in North Texas by way of South Dakota, Minnesota and Nebraska. I'm a husker fan at heart.. when you're from Nebraska you really have no choice. I have been heavy since my teen years. Gained even more with the kids.. I have lost up to 60 lbs before only to gain it back and have hovered around 300 for too many years.

I am doing some things that worked before and lots of new things to help me succeed this time. I am an Emotional Eater and I am really working hard on that aspect. I am committed to this , motivation is great but it is fickle and comes and goes as it pleases. So I have to be strong and commit .. just like being a mom to my kids. Looking forward to getting to know some of you and giving and getting support along the way.

Olla! My name is Sari, I am 27 and come from chilly ole Canada. I have always struggled with my weight and have never been thin or within a healthy BMI range in my entire life. At my thinnest I weighed in the 170s, after following Weight Watchers. I have been on Sparkpeople before and gotten to the same weight, but unfortunately lost motivation and staying power when I started traveling. My goal is to get back down to the 170s, and keep on going until I hit 155lbs - the point when I will have a healthy BMI!

Hello!
I've been a sparkpeople member since Nov 1 and am slowly working on my Operation:Healthy Lifestyle. I'm down almost 20 lbs (it was actually 20 back in early December. Oops!) and am working to be healthy for my kiddo. He will be 6 months old on the 18th.
I've never been a skinny person, but I'm not aiming for that now. I just want to be healthy and strong so I can play with my kid when he's older.

Heyas ^-^

My name is Shay, I'm 24, and trying to finally get my bum in gear about losing this weight x.x

Today is day 6 of my journey, and I figured since so far so good, I'd jump in and really try to put my all into a weight loss community. (I usually abandon diet attempts after 1 or 2 days)

My goal for the year is to lose 80 pounds.
My first mini goal is 20 pounds by the beginning of March.

Hi everybody! My name is Billie, I'm 19 years old and was at 233 last time I weighed in but I know that I've lost some since then but haven't had a chance to check on a scale yet. (Been traveling a little bit) I signed up for SparkPeople a little under six months ago but some stuff came up and I totally forgot about checking in with my food journals and water intake and the like and soon enough I forgot about the site in general! But I'm back now and ready to kick butt! Mostly my own butt. All the way off. :)

Hello everyone!

My name is Robin and I'm 31. I have always been big and I am ready for a change. I have tried to lose weight in the past, but mostly after a few weeks I get bored or tired or angry and just give up. I have blamed others and have also looked to others, but not anymore!

Hey everyone, my name is Lauren. I'm 20, I'll be 21 in June and I live in Charleston South Carolina. I'm trying to lose between 20 and 30 pounds by April 10. I am also trying to go from a size 20 skirt to a size 14 or 16. I have never ever been skinny in my life and that has caused major self esteem issues for me all through my school years, epescially my high school years.

Hello there, my name is Amanda, I'm 21 and live in the countryside of So Paulo - Brazil, and I have always felt bad with my weight, even started to take medicine to loose it, lost 15kg, gained 30 afterwards. And now My current weight is 111.7Kg is the limit for me, I've never felt so down and disgusted with my body, so my selfsteem is way too low, and everything else that goes with it. I'm trying to loose weight for quite a time now, since I was 16 (when I was 30kg above my healthy weight) and now that I am almost 60 kg above my weight, I'm taking it seriously. The only problem is, when I get some compliment on how I lost weigth, how much pretier I get when I'm not so heavy I just stop my diets and everything else, because I feel good again. And then I'm all fat again. So please help me get trough all my journey, and lets all finally get skinny :D
Haha so I guess thats all I have to say, bye guys, and see ya all
(oh and sorry for my english)

Hey there! Just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Kyra. Im a 23 year old mother of one who is very much in love. And despite the blessings God has afforded me, I've spent the last 10 years of my life with a cloud over my head most days. I have always been big and never fully happy with that. I've tried to accept it after many failed attempts to lose weight but realized where I went wrong. Coming from a family of "skinny" people, I always went about my struggle alone because well, no one else was like me. But I've joined this team to hopefully meet a few who can share my journey. I want to know the fun, sexy, healthy Kyra that I;ve always know was in there! I think its only fair for my boyfriend and son to meet this person too someday. So with hard work, I know I can do it! My starting weight was 350 and my goal weight is 170.
