I let my vet do my Solly's nails and inner ear hair plucking every 6 weeks but I do the washing and haircuts myself. You may find that whatever is most distasteful to your dog is better done by a true professional (i.e. not a cheapie groomer that might nick your dog and make her more scared). Whatever grooming is less distasteful, you can do yourself, pouring on the love.

Solly's not the easiest boy in the whole world to groom. (He's a standard and we live on a farmette so he needs to be clipped short, often or he's full of burrs and sticks.) He never did like clippers. But we get it done and he doesn't jump or shiver or cry. He even occasionally gives a pathetic little half wag or lick while he tries to sneak away or curl up in a ball.

Sometimes the last dog in a household is slow to be accepted. I've had several situations like this where I've adoped a rescue dog after I thought I was done taking in dogs.

This time, my husband bought me a purebred standard to replace my working Great Pyranees, who I had to put down. We got married, combined households and suddenly his only dog Boston Terrier had to deal with a poodle puppy. He did NOT approve. I have to feed my dogs separately. The more aggressive Boston absolutely must be fed in a crate or he'll steal the poodle's food. The poodle DOES love to play, though, and 95% of the time, everything is just grand. They've been together now almost 2 years now. Whatever problems remain are now because the Boston is a boston and the poodle is a poodle.

As far as the feeding goes, we buy an enormous bag of high quality lamb and rice food. You have a lot of dogs, so this may work for you. We mix in a little people something in all the bowls - a tiny bit of peanut butter or a few bits of chicken cartilage or bits of apple and carrot, the pour on a little water. Then we stir the food up. The dogs (just two at the moment) sit on the floor floor, shivering with anticipation. The Boston's dish goes in his crate (he follows so fast you have to watch out because he WILL knock you into it!) and the poodle's dish goes on the kitchen floor. The food costs us just over $1 a pound because we buy such a large quantity of it. It would be double that in smaller bags. It has no corn, wheat, etc. Usually there are two or three brands at a farm store like this.

Dee,
Great a Toy Poodle! Are you going to call her Cutie or change her name? Yes, a good grooming and some love is what that little girl needs!
My little girl of 15 years was totally loved ! Little poodles are so precious and they want to please and be praised, all they want is too be loved. I do hope that with you she will have that forever home.
I bathe my babies once a week and they are going to the groomer soon for their first time. They are almost 4 months old. My poodle went to the groome every 3 to 4 weeks to get her hair and nails done, She was always so proud to look beautiful!
My Ginger and these babies too, like their food warmed too. I always do that for them.
I always told my hubby that I got Ginger to spoil her and I did just that and loved every minute of it.
I got these two babies and he says they already spoiled, and I tell him, so what!
Treat recipes are coming! I made the peanut butter cookies and they loved them! I will spark mail you!

Well found some info out on doggie. She is a pure breed toy poodle who is gonna be 6 next month. They named her cutie! She doesn't really seem to come to the name that well. She was bought by a little old lady when she was 7 weeks old and the lady passed away last year and my fiance's uncle took her and he just lost his job and apt so she needed a home. She doesn't like my other doggies as yet she was an only dog so were hoping in time she'll come around. She's very timid except when she's in a playful mood!! She doesn't like it at all if my fiancι or I leave the room she gets very upset. Poor thing has been threw 2 owners in the last year and now she's on third. His uncle didnt seem to take good care of her as far as grooming she needed a bath very badly like she hasn't had one in over a yr. her nails need trimming and her coat is very dull and raggy looking. So I have some much needed work ahead if me. She was spoiled as far as food. She only eats Lil ceaser food and has to be heated but I have added a little of my small dog hard food to it last 2 days and she has eaten it all. Thanks to you girls for all ur welcomes and help!! I would love the treat recipes for dogs if u would b willing to share! Dee

BTW, HELLO Zoey!!! I hope you had a sniffing good day today? We had lots of fun playing with mommie out on the porch! We be glad when we can go outside down on the ground, but mommie won't let us til we get all our shots.
Mommie is making us some peanut butter cookies (for dogs) tomorrow. She hasn't used the recipe yet and wants to try it before she gives it out to anybody. If they turn out good, she will give it to anyone that wants it.
She baked us some sweet potatoe chews today and they are really tasty! We hope mommie don't get tired of making us treats! hehehehe!
Just thinking, I think it is snack time, yum yum!

Do you have a picture of her? There are many colors and sizes of poodles, and there are also many poodle mixes.

By the way, WELCOME to the Poodle Club!!!! emoticon

In the past, I have always had apricot poodles, but now have a white poodle mix rescue named Zoey. She's either a maltipoo or bichonpoo. At any rate, she is my baby and we rescued eachother.
