I have been a member of Spark since 2008 but was a lookie-lou for a long time to see what other people were doing and if this website was really going to stick around. I used the nutrition tracker off and on and lost some weight but didn't stick to it (as I am sure some of you can relate to). Was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes in 2004 which wasn't a surprise considering my very sedentary lifestyle and eating habits.
So, that brings me to 2013. I decided that it was FINALLY time to get off the stick and lose the weight. I would like to get off or reduce my medications by my 10-year diabetes anniversary of May 2014. I am doing great so far and have lost 71 pounds so far.
I love Spark because it has the nutrition tracker which I definitely need as I need something to tell me what I can eat. I have added several things to it but I use it every day. I am also starting to reach out more and have made my first post this month and joined another member in a November Challenge to lose 5 pounds this month.
A litte about me, I live in Cheyenne, WY. We (my husband and I) live 15 miles outside of town so it is pretty rural. I work from home so I don't have much contact with people which is another reason I am posting more. I think I need more contact with the outside world. I read alot and I love to bake and cook. I have put my baking on hold until I lose more weight which is hard but as I don't have any co-workers to share with I don't need the goodies here. I have given them to my husband to take to his office which is most guys and they are very appreciative so I can occasionally get my baking bug a workout.
Probably the biggest change for me this year has been to get way more active. I am up to 2.5 hours of exercise a day (Mon - Fri). This year we purchased an elliptical, a stationary bike and a Bowflex. We have a treadmill that I used off an on. It's funny, my husband was the one who wanted the bike and the bowflex but I am the one who uses all the equipment. It was a challenge but I started on the elliptical at 5 minutes which I thought was going to kill me! I worked up 2 to 3 minutes a week until I was at 30 minutes. I have worked up to 30 minutes on the other equipment and do the treadmill twice. Now, I feel guilty (a little) if I don't exercise. Quite a difference from the couch potato of a year ago.
