Rachel and LORENVER, thanks for the warm welcome.

Old world baking is recipes from Europe. Meaning tortes, bundt cakes, strudels, etc. I use foods that I buy in a specialty store or have my Mom send me stuff for those recipes.

The only thing I do different right now is that I use applesauce in my recipes but I keep the sugar. I found that in most recipes if you exchange it to Splenda it doesn't turn out good at all. For me it doesn't rise high enough with anything else than sugar.

Hi -- Welcome to the team! What exactly is Old World baking? I have not heard anyone else say they do that and I am so curious. I am bad about baking traditional recipes -- I don't like consuming artificial sweeteners (except in my beloved diet cokes!) and often prefer the taste of real recipes as opposed to applesauce/egg white/mashed banana mixtures. That said, sometimes you can't tell a difference! It really is all about experimentation.

Let me know if you need anything.

So glad I found this site.

I am a 38-year old mother of three who loves to bake. I bake not just American fare but do also Old World baking.

Since joining SP I have been looking into more low calories, low fat etc baking. I am always up to try new recipes and my family is my guinea pig. emoticon emoticon Most of the times they don't mind but occasional they do. emoticon

Hope to make friends here and learn new recipes. especially now during the holiday season.
