Welcome! I find that it is harder to give up extra sodium than it is to give up sugar. I have to watch everything and was surprised that dairy products have lots of salt in them. You can do it, but you really have to watch. Read labels. I found that it was easier if I make things from scratch, get rid of canned veggies and use fresh or frozen. Thanks to the Farmer's Markets, veggies are plentiful right now and not that expensive. I plan on freezing and canning this summer and fall. Good Luck!

Starting out, sodium can certainly be a challenge. As Donna said, you can control the intake if you cook your own food and not rely so much on processed and packaged foods. "Healthy Choice" frozen foods are anything but.
I make large batches on the weekend and refrigerate or freeze what I don't use, so during the week I am eating my own "healthy choice" meals.
Read the labels....you will be absolutly amased at how much sodium there is ia ALL prepared food, not just fast food but most everything in a can or precessed container. Theonly way to overcome and keep sodium under control is prepare/cook your own food. Then you are in control what goes in in it

I am still trying to figure out the salt balance. Was on vacation to our daughters in Florida last week. At first I couldn't find what to eat with out offending her. After 2 days I explained what was going on. We went to a fruit stand and bought fresh produce. Her 13 and 9 year old boys loved it. They wanted to eat like grandma, so before we left we bought enough to last them the week. There father told them to make a list for him and he would make sure they had what they wanted. Starting my second full week here at SparkPeople, and really liking the site so far. I've been able to hit all the other nutrition ranges I'm measuring, but sodium intake is terrible. I've had two 4,000+mg days in just one week!
I don't have a doctor yelling at me about sodium yet, and I think I want to keep it that way. I'm only on a stay-inside-the-numbers diet as far as I'm concerned. I don't care what I eat as long as I like it and stay inside the ranges. Eat less, exercise more. So being able to hit every other target but sodium is frustrating me. I'm glad you guys are here.
