I am new to the Lowering Salt Intake, but have been tracking sodium intake since I started Spark in January 2012. Could not believe how much salt was in everything you eat. I watch all my labels and have reduced my salt intake, which has helped me lower my blood pressure to a low normal instead of a high normal. Was happy to find this link. Looking for ways to cut more sodium. I try to stay under 2000mg but would like to stay under 1500 mg. emoticon

Welcome Rho!

Lots of great tools on SparkPeople that will aide you on your journey.

My biggest piece of advice is to use the nutrition tracker to track everything you eat. And accurately measure your portions. When you first start to track, SP defaults to calorie, carbs, fat, and protein. But you can also track other nutrients such as cholesterol, calcium, iron, and, of course SODIUM. Track all you consume - the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Adding sodium tracker opened my eyes to how much sodium I was taking in with these alleged "Healthy Choice frozen foods and the like. So I started making my own packaged food.

Sparkrecipies was also a big help in finding good low sodium meals, or to use the recipe calculator to see what a recipe you use will have with regard to nutrients.

Explore the site, and explore some of the threads on this team for great ideas to limit sodium intake. Always feel free to ask questions and one of us will respond. Or sparkmail me with a,question and will be glad to assist.
