emoticon Debbie! Sorry for this welcome coming a bit late, but the past couple of weeks have been a bit hectic in my home life, so forgive me. Know that emoticon ! Lowering sodium and watching your sugars is possible. In fact, since you have some similar issues, I would like to also invite you to take a look at the Living Healthy w/ Insulin Resistance / Low GI Diet team.

Having to watch your sodium can be difficult, though through in having to watch sugars and carbs too, well it can be tricky, but definitely doable. Everyone has already given you some great tips. Also, there are some older posts that give a lot of helpful information too. So please feel free to look around the team posts and jump right in with any thoughts, ideas, questions, helpful hints, etc. when you are ready.

As for the coffee creamer. I know Nestle's Coffemate makes some sugar free coffee creamers that do not taste bad and they are not terribly high in sodium, maybe 5 mg or less....which is not that bad, as milk also has a certain level of sodium in it too. I am not sure if International Delights has any sugar free creamers or not. Other options, if you are wanting flavors to your coffee, is that Barney's Coffee and sometimes Starbucks sell some sugar free coffee flavorings.

Hope some of this helps. Best wishes on your new lifestyle adventure to a better you!

Hi everyone, thank you all for your warm welcomes. I like that idea of being a sodium detector, lol. Speaking of that, I was logging in my non dairy coffee creamer and it even has 5 mg. per tsp., but the biggest discovery was the 1st ingredient in it, is corn syrup, that can't be good, so think I will just go with my 1% milk, their is always a trade-off it seems.
Hope all of you have a wonderful Valentine's Day!

Welcome to the team Debbie. I'm pretty new at this low salt task. But I've found some good recipes and some great advice from team members. Luckily, I've not developed any known health problems from my sodium intake but I was astounded by the amount I was consuming. Now that just can't be healthy - so I joined this wonderful team.

Best of Health,
Melissa

Hi Debbie. emoticon to the team. Glad that you could join us.

This team is great for sharing information and encouraging each other as we all strive to reduce our sodium intake. Become a sodium detective and you will surprised at where it lurks. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

I wish you much success on your journey!

Frosted shredded wheat has 10 mg. of sodium. I ate that today for a snack.

Hi my name is Debbie and I've been with spark since 12/19/09. Though my journey has been going well, perhaps it would be a bit better if I could get my sodium under control. One day I'll do fine, but more times than not it is too high.
I tend to retain alot of fluid, and am diabetic, with a family history of heart disease, so this is one goal I hope to conquer. Any help or suggestions is always welcome. I did web search today, so I can get off to a better start!
Thanks for having me join you all. Looking forward to making many friends here.
Hugs, Debbie
