Welcome Andy. I'm glad to hear you're trying to go low sodium early. That's a wise decision.
A word of caution, read labels when buying food. Things you wouldn't think are high in sodium are really high. If you're not sure, the Nutrition Data online has an area you can put just about any food and it will give you the nutritional breakdown.

Hi Donna,

Thanks for the heads up!

And 130 lbs WOW! That sure is inspiring. Congratulations.

Basically, for the last week or so, and hopefully for a lifetime, I have only been eating subway for lunch and fruits and vegitables for dinner and snacks. I am loving the new life style.

Hi Andy, yes, pickles are high, good for you for checking the nutrition label. I do find that when I'm craving a sweet, a small pickle (one or two slices) will help curb the cravings and don't do too much to the overall sodium intake.

You're doing the right thing by limiting that sodium intake now, while you're young. Do you eat at the school cafeteria? That makes things difficult, mass produced foods generally contain a lot of salt. Try brown-bagging it, and eat a lot of things that grow naturally, eg fruits and veggies. You want to get that B/P under control before it does damage to your heart, blood vessels etc. And if you can control it without medication you're better off, all meds have adverse effects down the road. Unfortunately I didn't do what I preach and am on 3 B/P meds. I've lost 130 lbs but still need the meds. I guess I'm stuck with them for life, in more ways than one.

God bless your efforts to get healthier.

Donna

Hello everyone,

My name is Andy and I am a 21, almost 22, year old student. My blood pressure is pretty high so I decided I want to do SP and also watch my sodium intake while I do so.

Today, I had a few pickles, plotted them into the nutrition page, WOW! pickles are VERY high in sodium.

Maybe I will stick to plain ol' cucumbers from now on :)

Nice to meet you all.
