Hi, I'm looking to share my enthusiasm for Callanetics with others. I have completed 12 hours using the 10 in 10 DVD so far, I'm also expecting to receive the Complete Callanetics book in the mail in a week or so. I'm thrilled to join the team.
That's the video that started my journey actually :) After many years of moving around and loaning out of my videos I have lost them, this is why I bought books. I seem to be able to keep up with a hardcopy better. Besides, I don't think I have a working vhs player in the house :) You are absolutely right about form. I have found that if I go back and read I can still tweak my moves to make them even more productive! Callan was a genius, these movements really work!
Welcome to the group Helen, we have lots of resources and friendly folks here that are always glad to help out so feel free to post any questions or comments you may have. A good place to start may be in the questions and instructions part of the forum, particularly a post by Charlie www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/team_messagebo ard_thread.asp?board=21414x8383x46307195 This has a link to a page showing the various positions of the basic Callanetics routine, something you can work with if or until you can get a book or instruction video. So glad to see everyone posting again, Callanetics is for life, this is not just to get to a point in your life, this is to LIVE a healthy lifestyle and Callanetics is a very good part of a healthy lifestyle.
My favorite book is Fit Forever, I got mine through AMazon books, this has beginner through advanced routines as well as Cardio Callanetics and special routines. There is a great section in the book on nutrition and lifestyle changes we can implement to be fit both body and spirit.

Hi ladies - I'm doing the "10 years younger in 10 hours" dvd - it's the same as the original video just on dvd. It's great cos she demonstrates the exercises and then goes round her class of pupils showing the mistakes they are making and how they can be corrected. Helps you to know you're doing the exercises exactly right! :-)

Yes! That's the same Camino! I try to walk at least every two years.
For me the easiest place to start is with the old book. Or if you can get the original video it is very good. It starts you out VERY slow and every day you work up.

Hello, My name is Annie Carvalho (another Annie!). I'm 60 years old, fairly active, but feeling my metabolism slow and not liking the side effects! lol
I learned about Callanetics many years ago from a 90 year old man who, when asked how it was he stood so straight and tall, told me. I have done Callanetics on and off over the years. I'm starting all over this time, needing to lose about 35 pounds and get back into shape.
I have Multiple Chemical Sensitivities and so have not had an income for the past 7 years while my case is in court, except for what I make doing fiber art. My case is due to settle next month! HOORAY! In the meantime, my specialist suggested long walks to chelate the chemicals and so I've been leading walks on the Camino Santiago across Spain. I'm hoping to get a small group together this spring and go again.
I have 3 sons, 3 grandchildren, and they all are in Portland, Oregon. I am currently in California visiting my mother for a month or two.
I guess that's enough. I hope to be an active member of this Team! Annie
Hi Annie, welcome to the group. We have very active months and then not so active but there is always someone around to help with questions or just to talk.I have been doing Callanetics since the late 1980's.I have strayed a few times but always come back due to the nonimpact way of resculpting the body.|I try to set up a challange every week for myself and then follow thru best I can. Last week I walked with Leslie (DVD) 3 miles a day for 5 days and got in one session of Callanetics, this week I am Cardio Callanetics all the way I hope. You may like Cardio Callanetics as well, its a mix of the regular routine with ballet dance moves to get the heart pumping. Once again welcome to the group!

Hi and thanks for the welcome. I joined this team because I just started BLC21 (the 21st round of sparks version of the biggest loser challenge) and tomorrow I need to do tighten n tone exercises. Well I don't like exercise except for walking, but it occurred to me that I could do callanetics instead. I've had the 10 years younger in 10 hours dvd for about 8 years and only done it a few times. Now I have the incentive to do it for the 12 weeks that BLC21 runs for, and I am so looking forward to having my body a bit more like I want it to be, both in terms of it's shape and it's physical ability. I won't be very active on this team at the mo as there is so much to do on BLC21 for the next 12 weeks, but there will be a break between challenges and I think it might be a good idea to become more active on this team at that point. :-)

Welcome to the group Idzni, sounds like you are making some positive changes! I think I am generally the last to see any changes as well when it comes to my shape. My goal for Callanetics is the remain mobile and fit through out my life. Callanetics is just one piece of the puzzle a healthy lifestyle encompasses all parts of our lives from what we eat and how we move to how we choose to handle stress. Good luck with your journey if we can help in any way, post away!

Hello :) My name is Idzni from Indonesia. I'm a newbie in the site and also quite new to callanetics.
What motivated you to take on a healthier lifestyle? I have been on a weight plateau for 2-3 years. I don't really have much appetite but when I do eat more than usual, I gain at most 1-2kg when then bounce back to normal On the other hand if I eat less or go on diet, I don't lose weight either.
What are your goals for Callanetics? I'm neither slim nor fat. I'm 121 pounds on 5'9. My utmost concern is my stubborn belly fat and the flabby arm. I've done Callanetics 10-in10 for about 1.5 months, twice or three times a week. Since then I feel my tummy start to get tighter, along with slimmer thigh, slightly (very slightly) slimmer waist and the disappearing back fat. My mum saw noticeable result in me (which I actually don't really notice) and joined my "quest for more toned body" since the past 2 weeks. I also got lots of praises from my friends who commented how slimmer I have become.
Despite the noticeable result, somehow I didn't see much changes in the measurement (I took measurements every 1-2 weeks). Perhaps it's to soon to see? Afterall it's just 1+ months. I do feel more flexible though as my head can now reach my knee in several stretches exercise, yeay!!
Anw, I look forward to make friends and lose the fats here!! All the best to your 'new body' endeavor :D

I live in Ontario, Canada. I have previously been on SparkPeople to lose weight - I did (Paul McKenna's I can make you thin), but now my dr. is at me to exercise (he is saying cardio, but I will start with Callanetics). Happily I found my Callanetics books when I was sorting through some boxes of books this weekend. After browsing my am/pm Callanetics book I decided to go ahead and purchase some dvds - I have a Callanetics video somewhere, but no working video player :). So, I'm going to try this!

I live in South Africa - and have been doing callanetics (in a class not video) for about three years. I used to do it two times a week. Not as often now as the teacher has moved. I do try though in other exercise classes to do the callanetics small pulse versions (much harder than using momentum). I love the way it focuses on everything - standing properly, pelvic floor muscles etc etc... I am trying at the moment to do the waist exercises for five minutes every second day while I boil the kettle/feed the dogs/run the bath..... Hoping it will get my waist down fast(er).

Hi, I joined this goup way back when I first joined Sparkpeople because I had such great results doing the Callanetics workout. However, even though I wasn't new to Callanetics I was new to online support so I never even navigated my way in here. Then after a failed stint with other sites I'm back where I started. Well at least my weight isn't. I did manage to keep about 20 lbs off.
So, at last hello and I'm glad to be back here and hopefully I'll know what I'm doing (computer-wise) this time.

I am so glad you chose Callanetics, Feel free to browse, ask questions or jump in any discussions here. This thread is for we who want a daily check in to just discuss what we do for us everyday,to share and enjoy one anothers companionship! Please join us if you would like. Hello Anne, Welcome to our team! It takes time to teach muscles a routine as well as re-aligning the body. If you can stick with it, I know you will be pleased! I think we all have body parts that show change faster than others, my legs and arms change pretty quick, my torso and face seems to be the last to really change. I have also seen a change in the way I stand and move, makes me look thinner but the measurements haven't really changed. Just remember you are changing things within your body, work hard for proper form rather than repetitions, change will follow.
Welcome, once again, please feel free to jump in with any discussions.

Hi Everyone!
I've heard about Callanetics about a year ago when researching how to get an hourglass figure. I finally purchased the 10 in 10 with the book. I loved the workout, but I didn't see any results. So I put it away, but kept researching on the web of others who had done well. I then bought Beginning Callanetics so I can get proper form and I started to see results pretty quickly. I had also bought the Callanetics Evolution and Cardio Callanetics. And frankly, I didn't care for either of the new ones. But I saw even better results with the Cardio Callanetics, without the toning work. Last month was my personal 30 days of Callanetics Challenge. I got to where I did Callanetics 4x a week. And I saw some great changes in my arms and legs. Not so much for the torso area, but my muscles are still weak. I didn't build them up after my last pregnancy and even so, the layer of blubber on top makes it hard to see any difference. But I still love the exercises! The most important thing I keep having to remember is to relax :)
Anne

Oh I forgot to add what motivated me to take up a healthier lifestyle. I would have to say my mom. She has always been into fitness and in 1997 she took up boxing and boxed till Dec. 2010 and seeing how fit she is motivated me.

Hi Ladies,
My name is Geoff I’m 34 and I live in Florida. I've been doing exercise videos for 12 years and have been getting back into Callanetics over the past few months and glad to find this forum!! My first introduction into Callanetics back in the 80's when I did the beginning Callanetics video with my mom, and I LOVE the back exercises at the end!! I love how the workouts have an element of ballet.
I love doing aerobics with weights and getting on the exercise mat and doing lower body exercises.
I guess I want to lose some weight, I've never been heavy for the most part but have a slight gut I want to get rid of. I was doing good, but fell off the wagon.
I try to eat healthy but I have my vices and try to do them in moderation.
Right now I try to exercise six days a week. Three days of aerobics with weights / total body, one day of upper body, one day of lower body and one day of total body without aerobics.
Geoff

Good Day Fellow Callanetics lovers!
My name is Sharon (Shari) and I have been doing Callanetics, off and on, for 20 years or so. I believe I bought the Ten Years Younger book in 1991.
What motivated you to take on a healthier lifestyle?
I quit smoking many years ago and began to gain weight, I had never had a problem with weight before then. I didn't know how to lose weight, my journey started in 1984. Along with quitting smoking, I had three babies and the resultant weight gain and figure changes that go along with that change to my body. Now middle age has prompted me to get back to work on myself, I have time, I need the energy, and I want to enter my post menopausal years with a fit, healthy body and a good attitude.
What are your goals for Callanetics?
I want to lose inches from all over my body, firm up the gooshiness that has crept on over the years, learn better posture, learn to take care of myself.
What diet are you following?
Spark People tracking is the plan I follow. Right now I am in the 1200 - 1500 per day calorie range. I have about 10 lbs to go, but that is stalled. Still with doing the Callanetics 2 - 3 times per week I am down an inch in my waist and another inch in my hips.
What is your favorite exercise?
In order: Walking, Callanetics, bike riding
What state or country are you from?
I live in Eastern Utah but I am a born and bred Texan. A saying I love, "American by birth, Texan by the Grace of God."
2 random fun facts about you?
I love growing things, gardening, flowers, trees etc... Which is sort of hard to do in a desert area.
Being around young people is so invigorating, it keeps me young at heart.
I do look forward to getting to know you all here.

Hi Patricia,
Welcome to the team! We're glad to have you and are looking forward to all your post.
I notice that you said that you want to prepare your body for a healthy pregnancy.
That is wonderful and if you are not pregnant this is the best time to start your Callanetics. But, if you are or think you might be, you should not do the stomach exercises until after your fourth month. If you start them then you should have an easier delivery and a more rapid recovery.
But, under no circumstances should any woman in the first trimester of pregnancy do the stomach exercise unless her OB-GYN has actually done them to feel how deep the contractions are. Please, don't just show your doctor the book. The exercises appear to be very easy, but looks in this case are deceiving.
Hugs, Charlie

Hi there! I've used Callanetics before and know it works! My daily activity varies from walking to daily chores in the garden and inside the house. I've hit a plateau after losing 10 lbs and need something to boost the slimming, so I'm going to try using the Callanetics for beginners video. Today is my first day, please wish me luck!
-PG
Motivation for weight loss? Want to look better, and prepare my body for a healthy pregnancy.
Goals for Callanetics? I've seen dramatic slimming and tightening when I used this in the past. I hope to trim down at least one dress size by the end of March. I have a lot of faith that at least every other day using Callanetics will do it.
My Diet: I've been eating healthy for a while now, but my husband and I wanted to start losing weight, so we began to pay attention to our portion size, caloric intake, and lowered our sodium and starches.
My Favorite Exercise: I love to dance, my favorite exercise is definitely dancing. I also like floor exercises like Callanetics and Yoga!
I am from Texas, USA
2 random things about me? I love citrus and my favorite scent is the citrus blossom.

What motivated you to take on a healthier lifestyle? My being obese weighed me down considerably and loving to dress, I was very limited in the choice of clothing to wear. When I saw myself in a picture (which is me in a green outfit on my Spark Page), it told me to do something about the weight. I was killing myself slowly being so overweight for my 5'1" frame. Now, I dress WAY better but what is most important, I feel good!
What are your goals for Callanetics? For now, I would like to do it 3 times a week and do the 35 mins sessions because I also want to do my other exercises. A while back, I did one of these sessions and realized that I had lost my muscle strength for doing Callanetics. It was tough! However, after doing them a couple of times, the strength was coming back.
What diet are you following? I am looking into the Zone Diet because it is recommended for someone who is Hypothyroid. I do not enjoy following diets per se but we shall see how that works out for me.
What is your favorite exercise? I love Turbo Jam, Turbo Fire, Taebo, Zumba, Tai Chi, Walking, etc.
What state or country are you from? I am born and bred in Canada but now reside in Dakar, Senegal with my husband and adult niece.

This is a new thread to me so I would love to answer your questions.
What motivated you to take on a healthier lifestyle? High Blood pressure but finally having a doctor who said - your numbers aren't bad. He was the first one that said something positive so when that happened something clicked and I jumped into a new healthy lifestyle with both feet.
What are your goals for Callanetics? Flexibility. I know it tightens and tones (from past experience) but it is the best also at helping one stay flexible.
What diet are you following? I am Vegan for compassionate and health reason but I hope to go deeper with that and add green smoothies and more raw organic choices in the future.
What is your favorite exercise? Long distance walking plus playing with the Wii Fit, Dance and Sport Resort as well as Callanetics and Yoga
What state or country are you from? Ontario, Canada
2 random fun facts about you? I am taking part in the BLC#18 challenge and this week is 80s so yup that is me in the 80s. I am a storyteller and writer of fairy tales
Hi, I just introduced myself on the "tell us about you" thread like the welcome email asked me to, but to answer your questions...
I used to eat all the time... not good! I have learnt over the last 4 years to eat reasonably healthily, and joined Spark originally to improve my healthy lifestyle habits. But I got a buddy, who encouraged me to use the nutrition tracker, and I realised I wouldn't have to cut my food intake by much in order to lose weight. So I started to go for it! And have been learning on Spark that I need to do two types of execise. I've been enjoying walking as cardio but was not intending to do muscle building exercises. However, Spark has convinced me I need to and I can't tell you how happy I am that I can do it by using my callanetics dvd. I know this is ging to be good!
Goals for callanetics are to do the "10 years younger in 10 hours " dvd 3 times a week as part of the team goal. Looking at it another way, my goal is to feel more flexible, balanced and stronger all over.
I am using the Spark nutrition tracker to count calories. I have 4 stone (56 pounds) to lose and currently weigh 14 stone 13.5 pounds (209.5) I also have a spark streak to eat 5 fruit and vegs a day.
Favourite exercise is walking.
I'm from England.
Two random fun facts about me are
I visited Cincinatti when I was younger and loved riding The Beast which is (was?) the longest roller coaster in the world, and
I once did a 24 hour skittles marathon.
Don't live to eat, eat to live.
