Hi I too have to be on a gluten-free diet. It's not easy for you have to read every label. There are a number of books that you can get at Chapters, that go into great detail about gluten.Understanding more about what I have to avoid. Right now I eat 80% vegetables and fruit and 20% protein and carbs. There are many foods that you can purchase that are Gluten-fee.
Have a great day

Hello everyone. I'm a mother of three(7,4,& 9 months). I myself have bad allergies to yeast, soy, nuts, fish, BHT (and most all preservatives), Fragrance(in most washing products), all metal except for pure ones(titanium, 24 karat gold, etc.), and lactose intolerant. My 4 year old son is autistic and is on a gluten free diet, which is basically the celiac diet. I might be allergic to wheat items but I haven't tested it yet(I don't eat much of any wheat item anyway because of the yeast allergy). I just started to actually stick to what I'm not allergic to. Its just REALLY hard.
Its hard to find anything pre-made with all these allergies. Which means I have to make everything from scratch. Its hard when I'm running around with my head cut off.

Hello! New here. I have had terrible allergies for years. Especially sinus issues and finally an Allergist gave me relief. It is called Neil Med Sinus wash. You can get the kit at Walgreens or CVS. It has worked so well that I do not need a nasal steroid anymore. I still take allegra 180mg but seem not to need it as often. I have been using the sinus wash for about a year now. Sinus infections have decreased for me too. Hope this helps..

Thought I would introduce myself. I'm Linda, mom of a fantastic 16 yo boy (yeah, I know, am I a mom or what?) I have never been tested for allergies, but I'm pretty sure that I am allergic to cats, dogs, dust, something else... um, grass for sure (that came on suddenly when I was 16 -- my eyes were so swollen you couldn't see the whites at all), and who knows what else. Oh, feathers. (Found that out after I got married, and dh had a feather pillow. Took awhile -- I thought seasonal allergies had just started a little earlier. Then one night, a few months later, I laid down, opened my eyes, and scared my hubby with my "AHA!")

I'm not sure which I hate more -- seasonal/outdoor type allergies, or the cats and dogs one. Almost everyone I know has a dog, and it makes it hard to visit. And I like animals -- but have to act aloof. Sigh.

new here
I have currently been doing shots for almost 3 yrs. I started w/ a rush treatment (up to 16 shots in 1 day) I then moved from 2x wk to once a wk to every 2 wks then 3 weeks & now I go once month. My allergies are doing a lot better (minus the cedar/juniper where I live) they even help w/ my cat (or I'm just used to her - not so much for other cats though) the only problem I have w/the shots is that they don't do them for food anymore (I first tried them about 13 yrs ago - gave them to myself at home - scary)
I have tons of outdoor/indoor allergies & food. soy is the worst for me & dairy (I was a cranky baby) is pretty close (now lactose intolerant to some extent too)
I can answer ? about shots if needed

I don't have any advice, but I can relate. Wheat is my 2nd biggest allergy. It's found in so many places! I know that a lot of people can use the ancient grains like Spelt. Something is different about the glutten, but I don't remember the details. I tried it and almost ended up in the hospital so I never investigated further.

Hello from Central Kentucky. I have joined SP to try to lose my baby weight once and for all since I had my last child in April 07. However, I think I may have some problems with the menus. I have Celiac Disease (the allergies board was the closest thing I found to relate to others with food problems on this site) which basically means I cannot eat any Wheat, Rye, or Barley. It's an autoimmune disease which causes my immune system to attack my guy when I eat these things causing malnutrition and other issues for those of you that aren't familiar with this. I have 3 daughters ages 6, 3, and 9 months and have been married to my wonderful husband for 10 years this past November.

Is anyone else on this board a Celiac and do you have any suggestions as to how to adjust the menus so they still work for you?

Thanks in advance!

Hi, all. New here, but was a member on Babyfit.

My allergies are mostly food related. This was a huge problem when I was nursing because my son also has food allergies. Of course they are different from mine. Lost a ton of weight then.

Anyway, I'll never be able to use the meal plans here because of the allergies. Some I can cheat on (though starting Monday I vowed not to do that for a while because my reactions are getting more severe)I just need to have pizza one more time first.

I'm allergic to corn worst of all and keep an epi-pen on hand because of it. But all of the cereal family except for sugar and rice to some degree.

hello samanthamaren and everyone
I had that camera thing down my throat TWICE.. i am a mystery but the spasms have abated and i had not a major attack in 4 weeks but as i was away from the computer these past weeks, i coul dnot report in.
Christmas night i had a minor spell but it wasover before it really started thank God.
I avoid foods with aspartme because when i think back to it, i was chewing loads of sugar free gum and that was t eh only real things i was doing out of the norn (stress)..lol
we also moved out of the house and and will stay away another month just to make sure that i do not get anymore if it is construction caused. I use nasonex and if the nasal drip is getting wayward, i take allegra D.. those were not working when things were bad but since the situation is better i figure they manage teh condition a bit.
Keep you posted ut i just want to thank everyone.
Oceanes
P.s Still not sure what triggered the spasms as the testsssssssss (emphasis is mine) are inconclusive. Has nyone heard of aerius?

OCEANNES-I have brociospams too. It was very scary. I went through the asthma testing, and we that came back ok, they sent me for a test where they stuck the camera down my throat and looked around. The specialist told me that there isn't much I can do to stop them and there is no real danger when they happen. Its like having hiccups in your vocal cords. When my allergies are better I dont have as many though.

Hi Safooa, welcome to the team. I don't know much about Claritin. The OTC allergy medicine that worked best for me was the Allevert chewable (it worked better than the pill that you take with water). I am now taking prescribed meds. Be sure to take the antihistamine (if you decide to take one with that in it) when you go to bed at night, you'll get less sleepy during the day and be less stuffy when you wake up in the morning. I think Nasonex is a nasal steroid that is supposed to help keep sinuses clear, so I don't know how much that would help with the symptoms. Hope that helps, God bless, Kim

somnoplasty is when they use heat to make a hole in the lining of the sinus, when it heals it collapses, opening the sinus. They did this because my sinuses stayed inflamed and I also had a deviated septum on the right side. The steroids weren't working to relieve the inflamation. The procedure isn't invasive and takes only about 20 minutes. It takes about six weeks to heal completely, after which I was able to breathe much more easily and was able to stop taking the nasal steroids.

Hi Melisa! I've had allergies for about 20 years, and they progressively got worse. I took Flonase for awhile, until I started have nose bleeds, then we changed to Nasacort. I recently had somnoplasty done to open up my sinus passages and was able to go off of the nasal steroid all together. I am so glad that the Flonase is helping you!!! Kim

Oceannes, I am so sorry that you are having these problems. I will pray for you. I have trouble catching my breath with my allergies at times, but not to the extent that you are. They have done asthma tests but my lungs are good. I am taking singulaire to help with that and it seems to be doing pretty well, now I only have these bouts once every two or three weeks. I sure hope the doctors are able to help you! God bless, Kim

Hi, I'm Kim and I have allergies! (Sounds like a 12 step program). I was recently tested and am going to be starting shots. My allergies are year round and are molds and dust mites, this has changed over the last three years. I am doing some preventative stuff and hope that soon I will find relief from the congestion. I'm hoping to get to know y'all better and to maybe get some good advice as well. God bless, Kim

hi, i just joined and i hope this will help me stay on top of my fitness and weight loss goals.
my allergies just came out of nowhere this summer, at age 26! i'm still waiting to see an allergist (looong waiting lists) and i'm not too sure how to handle my diet. i had anaphylactic reactions to a peach and then to a cherry. recently, i ate a string bean and broke out in a furious full body rash, but thankfully the symptoms stopped there this time. now, i'm very weary of raw fruits and vegetables. anyone have the same problem as me? i don't get it. good luck to all!

Thanks! I often forget about both of those options. I guess when I think of fruit leather, I usually think of the sugary snacks for kids...blah. Your comment reminded me, for those in the states, I just saw some all natural, no sugar added (I think) dried fruit snacks (I think the label called it pressed fruit) at Trader Joe's.

Welcome to the team Juliette. I like fruit leather and jerky for snacks. Look for fruit leather without a bunch of added corn syrup though - much more satisfying.

Hi. Just joined. I have seasonal allergies, numerous environmental allergies as well as life threatening food allergies, including soy. I guess you could say I am one big allergy. I am encountering my first struggle to loose a little weight and tone up at the age of 29. It seems so many protein rich foods now a days contain soy or nuts (another one of my severe allergies). I am always looking for healthy snacks that travel easily but that I am not allergic to. Anyone have any thoughts for me or have similar issues?

Welcome to SP. Good luck with your journey and allergies!! You found the right place for support and help, and each and every person on Spark seems to be very helpful.
When you set up your spark page, I think you can do the measuring thing there... I think. hehe, I've been here too long to remember.
Enjoy your time with us.

Hello I am brand new to Sparkpeople as well as this group and I suffer from a wide range of allergies. I hope to find some useful info and lose the weight I have gained. And how do you get the little weight loss measurement scale?

Hi everyone

I don't suffer from seasonal allergies, but have a dairy intolerance which causes me no end of trouble, I'm pleased to be a member of a team where other members understand these problems. I look forward to making new friends. :o)

Hi Everyone,
I dont suffer badly from seasonal allergies, but am allergic so certain foods. Problem is, I like most everything that causes bloating, itching, irritation etc.
Love to be here.

Here I am! I'm one of those people who suffers not from just seasonal allergies, but from a daily battle with dust mights. Since the age of 17 I've been on a constant mission to improve my daily struggle and find a way to get off medications. Immunization has failed me 3 times now and medications never seem to do quite enough to relieve my daily symptoms altogether. Perhaps someday I will find relief.

Life moves fast. Shoot out the tires and chill for a bit.
