Just started tracking my calories and exercise on October 1st. I know I shouldn't be surprised since the last time I committed to a plant based, whole foods diet I lost 20 lbs in 2 months and kept it off. I recently got organized again and have been cooking all my meals from scratch with no added oil. I love to eat and I don't feel hungry. In just 9 days I've lost 5 lbs. I'm guessing some of that may be water since I only add salt at the table and not while cooking my meals. Still, it's so motivating!
I follow the principles of Dr. McDougall and Dr. Esselstyn. No animal products, no liquid oil and very little nuts and avocados (althought I will add more nuts and avocados into my diet after I reach my goal weight). Dr. McDougall has tons of free recipes on his site and a free plan. The Engine 2 Diet's site also has some great recipes.
I don't know why I don't stick to this way of eating because it makes me feel so good. I guess it's due to a hectic schedule and eating out a couple times a week. I also am now able to work out on my lunch hour more often and find this is the best time for me. I usually do 40 minutes of brisk walking with a break for strength training in between at the park or gym.
