I've been vegetarian for a year now and I am working on moving toward becoming more vegan and focusing on whole foods. I'm not where I want to be yet, but I am making steps in the right direction.
I am married with 4 kids, 2 of them in college. One of my biggest challenges is the availability of processed and junk foods in the house due to the other family members.
I've read books by Dr. McDougall and Dr. Fuhrman that I'm using as encouragement for modifying my eating patterns.
One of my biggest motivators is my dad. He had heart bypass surgery this past year (he's doing great and losing weight, I'm so proud of him). There is an extensive history of heart disease in my family, and I want to make positive changes to make it less likely that I will end up having a heart attack.
I lost 30 lbs a few years ago that I've kept off, and I am ready to move on and lose more.
I am a runner now. I've been running for 3 years, and I've grown to love it. I have a foot injury at the moment, so I'm doing more elliptical trainer while I wait for it to heal up. I'm very anxious to get back to the great outdoors. I'm happiest when I'm outside running on trails in the woods!
I'm looking forward to learning from this group, to help me get better with eating real food.
