My inspiration came in the form of a visit to the parents of a childhood friend. Her step-dad is 93. He fell three years ago and broke a hip. Yesterday, he finished mowing his hay fields. He tilled his 1/2 acre garden several times this spring in the hopes the rain would stop long enough to plant. Luckily we are in a dry spell now, so I look forward to seeing his garden in another month. This is one determined and peaceful man.
My friend's mother and I started talking about TOPS. I did not realize she had ever been overweight. She was not over weight when I was a child, nor was she overweight when I moved back into the area. Years ago when I lived in the city she gained 60 pounds. She joined TOPS with a friend. They both lost the weight. Her friend quit TOPS and gained the weight back and died at age 66. Mom still faithfully attends TOPS and has maintained her weight loss for years. She also spends three hours a day in her garden. Both her and her husband radiate good health and sharp minds.
They have motivated me to stay with TOPS and to get out in the yard more frequently. I want to be around for my grandkids and great grandkids. I want to be the person who twenty years from now is sharing a great story about success at TOPS with a younger friend who needs a little encouragement.
