Hi, I'm Pat and I live in Chandler, AZ. June of 2006 I weighed 257 pounds and I wanted to change. I actually wanted to get more physically active. I was playing softball, but I didn't want to round up more people to play another night, so I decided that I would start running. The first day of running I ran maybe 100 yards. I finished with a 1 mile walk. I continued running further and walking less. I wanted to enter local races, not to win, but to see how good I could become. I was also hoping to shed some pounds with my new found sport.
Today I weigh 225, a loss of about 30 pounds. I've run in over a dozen races ranging from 5k's (3.1 miles) up to half marathons (13.1 miles). I ran in the PF Changs Rock and Roll half marathon in January, the Lost Dutchman half marathon in February and the Valley of Gold half in march. Since I've started running I've run over 800 miles. And I love it.
On the nutrition side I haven't done as well. I like eating all sorts of foods. Veggies, fruits, steaks and desserts. Some good and some not so good. Most of my weight loss came the first few months of running. This year I haven't really lost anything.
Which brings me to Sparkpeople. I look forward to meeting any of you and learning from your wisdom. I hope to get under 200 pounds and run in the 2008 PF Chang's Marathon (26.2miles) this January.
Thanks for reading, Pat
