My suggestion is that if you know that you are going to want a snack save some calories and plan for it. I have been doing this and it is working for me. Last night I had an ice cream sandwich for 180 cals. It was awesome. I didn't feel guilty either because I had planned for it and had the calories.

Hi Susan! That's the worst time for me also. I just bought these Breyers fruit ice bars with Splenda and have 2 of those at night (25 cal. each). Also have the smart-pop 100 cal. mini-bags when I'm craving salty-crunchy stuff. Sometimes I just NEED chocolate though and nothing else will do. That's when I get into trouble!

I'd definately check your caloric count. I was way low today for whatever reason. I logged and did my nutrition and found that I needed some calories. I also did a big cardio session, so I had a snack. I fed the hunger because I know that it will wake me up in the middle of the night, and that is the danger zone for me. (I will eat two huge bowls of cereal!)

Hi Susan and Welcome aboard

A few suggestions for you :)

Have hand weights near to pick up whenever you need to keep your hands busy.
Have a bath.
To bed early with a good book. (that's the one i do when i feel the munchies coming on)
Rub hand lotion on your hands , that will keep em busy for awhile and the food would taste pretty disgusting..lol
Remind yourself how great you did that day and you don't want to blow it at the end of the day.

Leslie I so agree with what you said about when encouraging others it helps to encourage ourselves.

It's so true! It is nice to have people in the same boat that are willing to listen (or in this case read) and know where you're coming from. It's nice to not be alone in this. I am sure you will do well with your program.
Right now I just plain thirsty...so I think I will have some sun tea that I made today. Yummy!! That just made me think that sometimes when you're having cravings it is your body needing water, not food!
Something to think about--although this time of night is kind of hard because then you wake up to nature calling emoticon

Susan,
Make sure you are getting a good breakfast and eating well during the day. I think a lot of us have been where you are at, I know I have!
I know it's hard. It even helps to get on line here at that time, if you can, and give others encouragement. I am finding that as I encourage others I become more encouraged!!

Keep up the good fight, you will succeed!!!!

I do keep handwork to keep my hands busy, it helps a lot. Some days I plan in a snack. I make sure I've figured my calories for the day. Then figure out what I can eat that will keep me in my calorie range for the day. Makes me feel like I'm getting a treat. Tonight I ate some whole cherries, didn't even swallow a pit. emoticon

One step in front of the other will take me where I'm trying to go. It's just a matter of time.

I am Susan and just started SP aabout 2 weeks ago. I'm slowly getting comfortable navigating and learning about all that is available. I thought I'd reach out and ask how some of you fight the evening munchies. It is definately my bad time of day. I want to reach for chocolate or popcorn. Maybe I should take up crosstitch to keep my hands busy. Suggestions welcome!
