My experience was one tiny step at a time, and then a couple years after I first joined SparkPeople, I did a long hike with about 40 pounds on my back, and I was really tired at the end, and then it hit me: this is what I used to carry around all day every day and now I don't have to any more!

is why I haven't joined a support network in the past. I finally decided that one way or another, I had to get involved with others, AND do it MY way. I'm excited to find that there is a team here that focuses on real food, not processed. My biggest challenge will be cheese, as I love it, and don't eat light versions. I do fine when I stick to my rule to eat only once a day, and only a 1 ounce portion. There are some cheeses though I can't keep in the house, and rarely buy because I can't control my portions with them. (ie. Brie, Havarti, anything uber creamy and flavorful)
Anyway, SP says I've got 50 pounds to lose, and frankly, at 60 years old and having tried and failed numerous times to get back to the weight I was 20 years ago, I am not very confident I'll get there. Frankly, I think I'd be reasonably content with a 30 pound drop.
I look forward to getting to know some of you and to get the support I need to eat the way nature intended.
