I understand your excitement. I felt the same way. Know there will also be literature there for you to take home which really helps between meetings. Books are sold at cost and pamphlets are free. This is wonderful. All you have to do is keep showing up and once you start working the program you'll find growth. Consider yourself cyber hugged!

I was excited to see a meeting so close to my house. It is literally only about a 10 minute drive. In a church that I am familiar with. At first I was like there is no way this will work out for me but when I looked up the organization on the web and clicked find a meeting, I just could not believe it...what luck! I will keep you posted and although I can not imagine my life without cigarettes, I know I can not do it on my own. I have tried every over the counter stop smoking aid and am not a candidate for the prescription drug because i have a history of depression and my doctor feels it would not safe for me. I never even thought of a group meeting for nicotine addicts. I know it sounds crazy, but I am actually excited about this new adventure. It may just be what I need, the in person support. I am just thrilled that you brought it to my attention. Thank you again!

Weepie,
What great news! I'm thrilled you have the luxury of a nearby meeting you can make. Well done. Thanks for letting me know. It matters being there for you.

Thank you so much for the reply. I looked it up and there is a local meeting very close to my house so I emailed them for more information looks like it is held on Saturday evenings which is great for me since I work crazy hours during the week. Thank you again for the information. I need help and I want to quit very much but just can't seem to go for more than a few hours without losing my mind for a cigarette. I will keep you posted.

Welcome to this website. It takes time to uncurl the clenched fist of addiction. The first and only requirement for membership in nicotine-anonymous.org is a DESIRE to quit. You don't have to be ready to do the deed. That means you can attend meetings for however long you need to before giving up cigarettes. This is important. Getting support AS a smoker lowers the anxiety about finding a way out.

I have been a member of NicA for 15 years and I've been nicotine free now for 13 of those years. That means I smoked as a member for close to 2 years before quitting for this last time. I have so many tools and such a great support system by working this program that I haven't relapsed like I did when on my own.

If I can be of further service to you, do contact me. Live meetings are the best but if there aren't any within an hour of where you are, there are daily bridge phone meetings and online meetings. Using the 12 steps of recovery like alcoholics anonymous does has given me my life back, free and clear.

in loving service

Welcome, we get it with that hold that cigarettes can have. It is so hard sometimes to just walk away from them.

Hello everyone...Well, this is it, I have to quit smoking. I can not believe that cigarettes have such a hold on me. I am afraid, almost freaked out about quitting but i am more afraid of what will happen if I do not quit.I found out that 3 days ago a dear friend passed away..she was my age (49) and had a heart attack. She was overweight and smoked, just like me. I am so afraid but guess what, I bought a pack of cigarettes yesterday. I always ask myself, what is wrong with me? I want to quit ad lose weight, I want to be around for my teenage son for a long time.I want this so much but am really afraid to deal with stress and life without nicotine. Any help or support would be much appreciated.
