Awesome recovery story! Yeah, I had my pins removed last Nov. so right now I have holes in bones. But, I believe after a year I should be strong enough to try running a little. Just do not tell my wicked ortho guy! I have to read your sparkpage.
Yes, leg injuries really do limit your mobility and create the perfect atmosphere for piling on the pounds (personal experience talking here.)
Don't give up on the running! I had a leg crushed, and rebuilt. The docs told me I would never walk unaided again, but I do. I haven't used a crutch or a cane for about 5 years now. I can't go as far as I used to but I'm working on it. The bike helps strengthen your legs alot and you might be able to get back up to running.

Thanks, I fly like the wind when I ride. Nothing can keep me down now. Never ask for a brake on the church stairs. Good news though, I stepped into that hole at Marathon Oil. Hmmm, maybe I will get back some of my gas money. Lol Kudos to you on such a great job!
Great job on getting active after such a serious injury, I love mountain biking too (I'll riding to work today on my mountain bike!) and it's less stressful on those lower limb injuries (I'm having foot problems myself, so really like that I can still bike!)

back but OMG, soooooo about your legs - ouch! Sounds like you are making the best of your situation and that's the most anyone can do so congrats on your decision to get active again! I have to say I really, really admire mountain bikers - that's a lot of exercise!

Broke my legs in Nov. of 2010 wow did I pack on the weight ! I am use to being in motion! Well I am back! And ready to move, no running for the rest of my life but I can mountain bike! And I will. Need some motivation.
