My first hikes were pretty SLOW, and my hips hurt afterward (thank goodness for Glucosamine with condroitin).
Now I feel pretty comfortable going for 5 or 6 miles on a casual afternoon if I have a couple of hours. You'll work your way up in no time!

This site is awsome. I've worked hard and sticking with it here, post as often as I can, and track everything. I lost 20 lbs since March. I just went hiking in Vt this last week, and wow, what a difference from last year. I hiked one mountain last year on vacation, and was wiped out for a week. This year I did 3 hikes in that same week. It was a total surprise to me.

I'm only saying this to encourage you. It makes a huge difference. Even 10 lbs made a difference in my running and abliity to do hills. so stick with it, and don't give up. There are a lot of people here who are willing and eager to help.

I am truly ahiker yet the encumberance of weight and lack of exercise i am now a very slow hiker. My goal is to lose 32 bounds and regain my favorite exercise. There are amazing trails here.
