I've been through a few different BCs trying to find the "right" one - after changing so many times, I figure it's not a good idea to mess with my body like that anymore! So I'm not interested in something I'll just have to quit using after two years, ya know?

SOOO thankful that the PMDD symptoms went away. I feel like myself again!

I'm not sure how long you can take it for. We were guessing that I would use it for maybe a year while I lost weight, and then hopefully the migraines would disappear. I know a decade ago (yeah, some of my info is dated) they didn't know better and would let women have years of depo, but the depo worked for an entire year. Then they realized that the side effects weren't worth it.

What about depo from 5 years ago? lol

I have horrible cramps each time - Doc told me to take 4 over-the-counter IBprofen 3x a day and it STILL hurts!

of course, I'm also anemic, so Doc put me on daily iron pills to increase red blood cell production. Yeah...not fun.

Anyway, I've heard that you can only take depo for 2 years before you have to quit...is that true?

Depo wasn't too bad. The first week I was actually finishing a period and the shot sped up the last day of it. I didn't have any symptoms for the one I missed, but the next... the migraine was killer. I was barely able to hold my eyes open. The cramps were ok, not the worst I've had. I still don't know why I had a full-fledged time instead of spotting. My thyroid is fine, so are all my reproductive parts. If I can get all this extra weight lost and still have issues then my doc and I will really be scratching our heads.

Be glad you can take the pill. I generally try to stay away from hormones because I don't have a normal reaction. And the depo now isn't the same as a decade ago.

My best friend used to be on depo - it made her miss 3 before the shot wore off. I wonder why it worked differently for you?

I've talked to my doc about the shot before, but we decided to try skipping placebo week to go straight into another pack in order to skip one TOM. It was okay at first, but then I started having REALLY BAD mood swings in the week (sometimes two) before TOM. So I went back to taking them the traditional way. I'd love to be on depo, if it would work for me (no clue if it would), but I'm afraid that I'd have some horrible mood swings from it.

I used to be on meds for depression, but decided to go without for awhile. It's been over a year now, and I'm doing fine. It had gotten to a point where I didn't know my normal anymore, and I have had more than my fair share of stress. Now I have a better handle on things.

The depo shot had me miss one period, but then I had another before the shot wore off. I wonder how this is going to work.

I'm new here, too.

I didn't know that estrogen was stored in fatty tissue!! Sheesh, no wonder I feel like I've lost it (I'm in the midst of one of the WORST PMDD episodes I've had this year and have about 130 lbs left to lose).

I hope you and your doc figure things out - I have depression, so meds for my regular depression help during the rest of the month, but barely scrape the surface of this one (and sometimes longer) darn week when I feel like screaming at the top of my lungs anytime someone LOOKS at me funny!

I've heard some good stuff about nutritional supplements, and exploring that route right now.

Best,
Amber

I had PPD with both my girls, a few misdiagnosises, and now my doctor and I are thinking my PMS just ain't right. I went in because the monthly migraines are getting so bad that I will have the sparkly lights and within five minutes I will loose vision. It gets pretty scarry knowing that and have the sparklies while driving. My ObGyn pretty much said I need to loose weight, and my estrogen will lessen (it's stored in fat), and then my PMS symptoms will lessen or go away. Until then I had a depo shot to "reset" my hormones since they were way off. So I found myself here and have lost 10 pounds, but it's only been two months since the shot that was supposed to last three, and now I have had killer PMS with this one. For me it's mostly the physical symptoms and irritability. The migraines are the worst, and I know that I am not plesant to be around during one. I am hoping that there are others that can have ideas on how to deal with these symptoms while I try to loose the weight. Thank you!
