I get on here and chat, keeps me busy enough I don't want to snack...lol

I have lost 75 pounds so hope to lose the rest of my goal...

I have to get a new set of chaps, unless I can find someone talented with
cutting down leather...my chaps are too too baggy to be safe....

Hi Darlene. I drive a Kawasaki Vulcan classic 1500
It is taking time to get use to it. I learned on a 250cc Suzuki...
But I love it...and its coming along. Not rushing things.
Thank you for the warm welcome...I know this will be a great team to get involved with...loosing this poundage and talking bikes. Perfect! emoticon

Hi I'm Diane from Massachusetts.. and just started riding this october.

I took the motorcycle course passed and begun riding. Of course only got a few weeks of practice before the snow came. I have been faithfully driving around the neighbor hood to be more comfortable. My last ride out I did do it out in the real world and it was the most fantastic experience.

I just love it.. but still feel like I am working on my skills. Just because they gave my my license still doesn't make me a rider. I need to put more mileage in, and every time I go out I feel better and better.

I was excited to see this spark team page and I plan on spending some time here reading. I will learn from you all about your experience on the road and the common issues dealing with riding.

I also look forward to continuing my journey of losing weight. Which will make my day to day life better… and my future riding more fun.. time to get healthy! emoticon

Just do it , keep it in your mind this isn't going to be perfection but a goal to live a clean heatlhy life. As long as you can hit the mark most days you will be successfulI in the long run.

I saw on FB where one of the lady riders let her fear overcome her in a curve and went
off the road into a field and barbwire fence....the farmer and several people (men) came
to help get the bike back up on the road and she tightened her mirror brackets and went
on with her ride(the other several ladies came back to see why she was AWOL)

Another friend rode from Texas to Yellowstone Park and worked 2 summers there and this
summer she took off and rode thru the states to Canada for a science symposium, then
down to Niagara Falls and thru the states across to here in Alabama, we met for dinner,
then she rode on thru Mississippi, Louisiana, and back to Texas...almost 4,000 miles by
herself.....

Maybe things will settle down here now for a while and we can get some riding in..the only
thing we do is obviously pray before we leave on a ride, but I ride my bike like every other
person in the world is OUT TO GET US....so ride defensively....and keep posting....

love reading your posts...verrrrrrrrrry interesting.....

Darlene - Thanks a bunch for the website, I'll have to check them out and I'd love to see that video! Congrats on your 10 dismount.. LOL!! I'm amazed at how many people just don't SEE us on bikes. I'm over 300 pounds, ride a good-sized bike, AND wear a black jacket with reflective stars on the back and front, with a white helmet. You didn't see me?!? You've got to be kidding! It almost makes me nervous for when I've lost more weight. I've almost convinced my husband that this is why I NEED the White Hot Pearl Heritage Softail Classic... almost. We've had close calls every time we go out, being cut off, pulled out in front of, almost tail-ended at red lights. I hate driving in town, because til we get where we are going, I'm exhausted from being hypervigilant, because I know people are just not paying attention, although I do love the 65+ mile ride to town and then 65+ miles back home. Lots of sweeping curves and hills up and down. We try to get at least one or two round trips in the week he's home from work. Can't this time home, it's been raining hard the past few days and more to come according to the forecast. Pretty soon our Alaskan riding season will be over and then comes the long winter and working inside to get rid of this weight! Ride Safe!

Before you can commit to the future, you must come to terms with the past.

JANET,

www.gusset.com (you may have to paste/copy this addy...it is Diamond Gusset Jeans and
they are all made in the USA)

I know they have a mfg./store in Lynchburg, Tennessee and that is the one we are going over
to. They have a video somewhere....where the guy is sitting down and a pickup truck drags him down the road at 35-40 mph and the denim is eaten away by the friction but the Kevlar
did not wear thru, which would protect from road burn....

I am also curious as to whether these jeans will keep my oil pan from burning my leg in
slow traffic....so I want to try a pair on to see if they will come down far enough with the Kevlar
to protect my leg....in the meantime, I am making a pad with a towel and liner to protect me from the oil pan.

David had a wreck on his Dyna because some dum-dum pulled out in front of him and did
over 3000 in damage....I had a minor one on the Softail when a guy ran a stop sign, we were
riding out in the backwoods. The good thing about this, was when she went over, I let go and
rolled and came up on my feet, the damage to the bike was a broken mirror fixture, skint pipes
and a skinned spot on the foot rest. David gave me a 10 rating for my dismount...LOL

We always pray before we take off on the bikes and had I been 8 to 10 feet further on the
road, both of us would have went off the edge of the bluffs....like 900 feet down....and may I
say BIG ROCKS......nothing to grab ahold of, so would have been very different outcome.

The guy who caused it, did stop and help us lift the bike back up on the road, then we made
a beeline for home to get the mirror fixed....had new Rousch pipes put on her since then, so
no remainder of the marks are there. This bike is 726 pounds full of fuel....so it is a load to
pick up if it goes down.

Ride safe.

Darlene - I see the pic of your bike and it's gorgeous! Congrats on the weight loss so far and here's to your continued success! Are there any local tailor shops around that could take them in for you?

We also don't ride without full leathers and helmets. I've seen the statistics of riders over 50 and they aren't good. I figure the safer we ride and the more protected we are just in case, the better off we are. I've been in one pretty serious crash and one no so serious as a passenger (both with my first ex-husband). In the first one, the back tire went sideways and we rolled, thank goodness for helmets and thick jacketsI I had a extra-thick down jacket on and it ripped the back off and my left elbow down to skin. There were feathers all over the place! The cop that came asked if we hit a chicken truck!! LOL!! The second one was not so serious, he just forgot to put his feet down at the stoplight. Til he remembered it was way too late, gravity did it's thing and we rolled off onto the road. There was a car full of college kids behind us and they were hooting so loud, made me laugh too, but he was not so amused. Didn't hurt the bike, just his ego... LOL. I've dumped mine in the driveway once too, pulled in on the wrong side and got into the soft gravel, was going slow enough that I just rolled out of the way of the hot pipes and let the peg hold the bike up. It's a lot harder to pick up a 500 pound bike on gravel than on pavement! The hold on to the solid parts and back up with baby steps doesn't apply very well. My husband was there to help me and together we managed to get her up where she belonged.

I love everything about the Heritage Softail and the Softail Deluxe, love the old school look with the sweeping fenders and chrome detauk, the comfortable seats, and that sound *grin*. You know exactly what I mean!

I've never heard of riding jeans with Kevlar lining, genious!! Who's the manufacturer?

Hey Janet,

My husband was amazed when I told him I always wanted a Harley...he used to ride
when he was in the military and didn't have a car...lol
So we bought two, a Dyna and 883 Sportster, and then traded up to him a Heritage
Softail in Electric Blue, and mine, a Softail Deluxe in Vivid Black over Cherry Red..

My dream bike....I got some leathers from a friend who sold her bike, now I have lost
78 pounds with 40 to go and my chaps are way to big....I am now looking for someone who
can to take them up....also we plan on taking a road trip to the mfg. who makes the riding
jeans with Kevlar lining....they may provide as much protection as the leathers....keeping
the coat, regardless.

Ours live in the garage when we aren't riding...or as I fondly call it, the Harley Hut...

Yay!! Two of my favorite things combined... SparkPeople and motorcycles!! My name is Janet and I live in Nenana, a small village in Interior Alaska, about 60 or so miles south of Fairbanks. I'm just getting back into the SparkPeople thing after being away for a couple years. I had lost almost 80 pounds before, but things happened and I gained it all back and it brought friends. It's time to evict everyone!! I used to ride a long time ago as a passenger because I "wasn't allowed" to ride my own... Well, two divorces and another marriage later (hey, some of us take more than once to find the right one!), I convinced my husband to buy a motorcycle after listening to him wish for one for years. The deal was, if he bought one, I would too and learn to ride, because there was no way in hades I was riding on the back of his! So last year, he bought a 2005 Honda Shadow Aero 750 Silver over Pearl, and rode it for a couple months. I fell in love with that bike and he wouldn't give it to me, so I found one exactly like it, but a different color, Black over Dark Cherry, less miles, and less price (giggle) and bought it! This past January while were we in the city (Anchorage) we popped into the Harley Outpost just to look around. He sat on a few of the bikes in the showroom and then he saw Her... a 2012 Heritage Softail Classic in Vivid Black with all the chrome details and leather side bags and stunning white-wall tires. He sat on her and picked his feet up and there he sat, perfectly balanced. That was it, he was in love. Of course he hemmed and hawed about buying her, but I didn't have to push too hard! He traded his Honda in on her and we drove down with the truck in March and hauled her home where she languished in the garage across the street until May 6th and he and a neighbor chipped ice for 6 hours to make a path out to the main road, so we could get the bikes out. It was 36 degrees!! We didn't care!! I love riding my Honda Shadow, but there's a White Hot Pearl Heritage Softail Classic in the showroom that's calling me... perhaps soon!

Before you can commit to the future, you must come to terms with the past.

The only constant you will have in your life is your relationship with yourself.

Hi Sandy and welcome to the group. Check out pictures on my page of photos of my
red and black Softail....love her.....

Its all about getting healthier....I feel better on my bike, that is for sure....now I am going
to have to buy new chaps cause mine are falling off,,,,,unless I can find someone who can
alter them for me...

If you ride a dirt bike you could ride a street bike....but riding your own on the highway is
not for everyone....just make sure you are comfortable with it ...........

Comment anytime, we welcome more chatters....and come over and join the Harley team...

Hi everyone, my name is Sandy and I'm from Southern California. My husband and I got a Harley Fatboy this past Christmas and I love riding as the passenger on the bike. The Harley is chromed-out and a really pretty metal flake red and black and is super sexy. I feel really awkward on the bike though since I don't feel sexy on it. lol

I want to lose weight to better my health for sure, but I also want to be less weight so my husband doesn't have to work as hard with me as a heavy passenger and I want to look good on the bike too.
emoticon

I also want to add that I ride dirtbikes, but I haven't ridden my own street bike. Although who knows, maybe I will one day.

I look forward to getting to meet all of you. Have a happy hump day, Sandy

Hey, I'm Deb,from Virginia, I ride a Kawasaki Vulcan 900. I've been riding for about 3 years and have put down about 13,000 miles so far. I'm co-leader of "Insanity for the Ladies", I'm on the 3rd round of Insanity and I have to say it really has helped the strength in my legs - good for backing the bike up ! Looking forward to participating on the team !

Thanks for the comment Winnie.......he had a stabbing pain in the knee today
and fortunately caught it before he went down....we were in Academy shopping
for a couple new shirts .... he said it felt like someone stuck an icepick thru it.

He had part of his meniscus removed, after injuring himself trying to push his mother
up a too-steep ramp and she objected to putting the foot rests up on the chair...don't
know why it would have hurt her, but oh well..............

He is holding firm that he does not want to give up the bikes, so we shall see what
happens.

Darlene,

Thanks for the welcome. As nurse I have taken care of many people after knee surgery. I am not sure what procedure your husband had done but give it time. Knee surgery can take a while (few months) to fully heal from but most people if they stick with their exercises are able to be more active than they were prior to the surgery. Regardless of if you get back on and ride or move on to something else, I hope you have an outlet to enjoy yourself and have quality time with your husband.

Hi Lindsay and welcome back to spark.

Welcome to another fellow rider....like I said, we don't care what kind of bike, just
that we always stick together and ride the wind.....

I am behind on my rides because husband had knee surgery in June, so we shall
see what happens....I told him if we aren't going to ride any more than we are, then
we need to sell them and move on to something else....like a camper and travel....

Hi Everyone,

My name is Lindsey I am not new to SparkPeople but have been away for a while and need to get back at it. I am nurse I work 12 hour nights and a first time mom just having a baby in May. I have been riding for a few years now, although I live in northern NH were the riding season is too short... I ride a 2007 Honda Shadow Aero; my dream bike is a Harley Fatboy that I hope to have someday when I have money for it. I haven't gotten any riding in this season due to having the baby but my maternity leave is up as of today and I will at least get some riding in on my way to and from work. I am excited to have found a team of fellow female riders to have for support here and enjoy the road with.

Thank you for the warm welcome, Darlene. Yes, I like to stay both busy and active. I'd be at Muskegon Bike Week today if it weren't for a problem w/my starter. Oh well. And to Chey697 - Never made it to Laconia, but have fond memories of Americade which takes place the week before Laconia and is in upstate NY in the Adirondak Mtns. My boyfriend at the time was a flat tracker and wanted to race Laconia, but we never made it.

Glad I found this site. I love it. I use to live in NH and go to Laconia every year.Havent been there in about 5 years or better. I charish every memory there. We would ride the coast with about 20 others .do some flea market every week end. I have lots of pictures and movies. Im 55 now..oh but wait. I still ride. But now its in NC.. My goal is sturgus.Met Hubby when I was 15. Rode Triumphs for a few years till we could aford Harleys. Funny how life goes bye so fast. So I need to drop some weight so I feel better when I ride long distance.

Newbie here. Hoping that I am posting this correctly. I'm a passenger chick and dedicating myself back to a better me. Just made reservations for Bike Week in Daytona last night and gotta get on the ball at making my butt look a lot less like one. :) Thinking that joining this team will be a big boost and I need to stick to making myself healthier for now and all my days to come. Thanks for the team! All my best to all of you, from me and the foothills of NE Georgia!

Hi, I'm Mel from Cincinnati, OH. I just found this team and so glad I did. I've been riding my own bike since 2002. Last summer I bought an 09 CanAm Spyder RS. I've had lots of two wheelers, my favorite being my Ninja, but never felt comfortable enough to ride with the big boys. My husband rides a Harley Street Glide, but also got himself a Spyder after riding mine. We have helped to start a riding club and have taken several trips and met alot of great people.

Greetings!

Southern California is where I live and ride. Born and raised in Michigan, spent college years in Boston then on to SoCal. I'm spoiled by the weather since I can pretty much ride year 'round. Tickled to see so many other gals that ride.

Top weight was 250 lbs, with the help of SP I'm down to 224. I love this program!

Well I reckon northern Illinois was a big change from Louisiana....no, I haven't been
down to the beaches yet. We have some financial issues to work out, plus we have
3 elderly pets, 2 twelve year olds and a 15 year old. It is hard to get away because it
is so expensive to board them.

Well I am sure that you had a good reason for moving to the frozen tundra of northern
Illinois....lol.....

I love the South, always have...

Welcome Magnolia...............we don't care what kinda bike you ride....you ride, nuff said.
A kick start??? Go you....I probably couldn't start mine without the electric start.

Glad you joined up with us, the more the merrier. I used to live in Illinois, just south of St.
Louis.....still come up for visits when we can....

Illinois weather changes about ever 15 minutes...so you should be out and about in no time.
I live in Alabama right now....have an elderly MIL, so am stuck for the moment, but that is not
a problem...

Blessings,

Hey everybody! Im in northern Illinois, which isn't the best place for riding but it definitely gives us something to look forward to! I was on SP in 2008 - 2010 and managed to loose about 30 pounds! I have gained 5 pounds back and now I want to get to my ultimate goal of 140 by the end of May. So glad that I am starting again now and not starting completely over...it was really hard to loose the last pounds and I hope my metabolism is ready to get into HIGH gear.

I LOVE TO RIDE!!! I don't have a fancy motorcycle or anything, but mine does have a really cool kick start which seems to draw a lot of attention. Looking forward to dropping pounds with you ladies!!!

Awesome, mine is Black and Orange. Many mistake it for a Harley due to the colors. I like it for tooling around town but not so much on the long rides. That's when I have to suck it up and jump on the back of hubby's.

Hey all, I'm a 45 year young in Michigan. Hopefully can say in Florida soon. I currently have a Shadow but am aspiring towards a Gold Wing. My husband has one and I'm soooo jealous. He wont let me ride it until I have my lessons so guess what I'm doing this summer, losing 20 lbs and riding a Gold WIng. Looking forward to future chats.

Hi everyone! I'm Terre, and I live in Glendale, AZ. I love to ride & currently ride on the back of my boyfriend's Harley Softail Custom, but I am planning on getting my own bike within this year. Before I can do that, I really want to lose 35 pounds!!!!

I live in the best place to ride...we never get snow in Phoenix, rarely get rain, and can pretty much ride all year round....ok, summer days are a bit hot, but we ride early in the morning and go up north to Flagstaff or Sedona, then come back after sundown, and we can ride at night without any problem!

I am looking for support and buddies to help me achieve my weight loss goals, so I can treat myself to my new bike!!!

Hi Altagopher! Welcome to the team emoticon

Im glad you decided to join us. My first bike was an 07 Shadow and I loved it! It was so easy to ride. It was also in my favorite color and chromed out! Im glad your planning on riding more this year. How many months of riding weather do you have there? I am in Texas so we have about 11 months that we can ride.

Hey Allison! Welcome to the team. Im glad you didnt let your bike license lapse. There are lots of great things about riding and just having the license is proof to you and others that emoticon

Are you able to ride a trike? I know a few people who have gone the trike route since their legs are not as strong as they once were. Maybe this is something you could look into.

Hello my name is Allison. A few years ago I moved back to PA and my son told me he was going to attend a class that the state runs. They teach you how to ride a motorcycle. I asked if he minded if I went with him and he said it was fine with him.

I got my license after 4 tries but I did it. I never got a bike but I still love them and who knows, maybe someday I will buy one.

I am disabled but when I moved I had to renew my license and I was going to let the motorcycle license lapse. The man at the DOT told me they have bikes with hydraulic lifts and he said I could probably still ride. I renewed my bike license after he told me that.

Hi everyone,

My name is Elaine and I live in Denver, Colorado, USA. I have a couple of Harleys, I have been riding all my life but riding my own for the last 6 1/2 years.

I started working on weight loss on Christmas day... I figure I have about a year and a half of work in front of me so I am settling in and getting comfy. I am looking forward to getting to know everyone!

Hello, everyone. My name is Nicole. I am the proud owner of a 2003 Honda CBR 954, in red of course, which I simply love to death. My husband bestowed it on me as a birthday present last year; in turn, I upgraded him to a Harley Davidson. We currently live in Louisiana, which means we have an extended riding season. Unfortunately, we haven't been able to ride much over the past year due to our combined health issues ... but I have to say that I love riding, and I have the itch to go do it everyday. My goal this year is to be fit and healthy by the time the cold season is over, so that I can feel fabulous this upcoming ridnig season. emoticon

Hi! My name is Sues and I'm re-introducing myself. I have been away from Motorcycle Chicks for too long and I miss all you gals. I love reading about your rides, your victories, your lives! I don't have too many real friends but I would like to make some friends here. I know D_ANNA, we used to write a while ago but it's my fault I've been away. Well I'm here to say I'm back and I hope you don't get sick of seeing me around the site! LOL!
I ride a 1988 Honda Shadow and have had her since 1993, after I graduated from my Honda 750. I'm saving and saving for a Harley but I'll never get rid of my baby, my Shadow. We've been through alot together and I can't imagine not having her in the driveway.
I'll see you on the highways and by-ways!
Ride safe!

Hello all. My name is Kathy, and really I am the anti-biker. I started out my love affair with motorcycles when i was about six, that Fonzi he was a charmer. I got my first bike, a honda cb650 about 10 years ago, then came the nighthawk 650 which I blew up about a month ago, I thought I was done for the season but I talked my husband into getting me an old BMW K75 (we picked it up last night) I figure I can ride until it snows with that bad boy.

I have 5 beautiful children from 14 months to 14 years, they are killing me, but I love it. I work almost full time as a welder / mechanic, and my husband is Mr.mom. We live in N.E. Ohio.

I am trying to lose the baby weight from the last one. I am currently down about 8 pounds, but I have another 40is to go.

Hi my name is Michelle and I live in Oregon. I received my endorsement in June of this year after taking the Basic Rider Training program. I have a Honda Shadow 600, a hand me down from my husband. When I got the endorsement, he got the new bike! I have been on some short rides with him (meaning I rode my own bike) but am still unsteady and not enough confidence to do longer rides. My tags expired in August, so I am waiting until next year to get back on and get better. Yesterday we did a nice poker ride with me on the back of the bike. It rained little, but the rest of the day was nice. I have issues with turns and curves and need to work on those. (One of those curves I had a nice drive into a ditch!) Not a major crash, just a nice gentle ride. emoticon But all was fine and I was not hurt. Though I think I gave my husband a few gray hairs. I am getting to know other bikers, both male and female so I can become a better rider.

Every day may not be good, but there is good in every day.~Author Unknown

cycles is okay with me...we are a select group in
that we girls are finally getting out there and

My bike is a softail deluxe and I love it. I think
my daughter was burnt out on nursing, which is why
she is a correctional officer now.

Our bikes have been on display over at the fair this
week, so maybe we will have time to bring them home
after church tomorrow.

Welcome to our group 2B.............post as often as

OK....I finally decided to join up. Who can resist those two wheeled contraptions? I ride a Vulcan 900, but have actually been riding for over 20 years, started out on a little Honda Rebel 250, which I promptly dumped the very first time I got on. I have to admit I am nothing more than a recreational rider, and sporadic at best. I didn't even license ol' Bessie this year. ***siiiigh*** C'est la vie, it's been a really busy year, hoping next year might be better. I am heading toward my 60th birthday (way too fast, imho) so I've already 'been there/done that' with the menopause stuff. And I hope this is not a problem, but if it is, I will more than understand...but I am a gay female. I live in Ohio, have two grown kids, 4 grandkids, and 2 stepgrandkids. In truth, I'm just a harmless old lady who has always loved motorcycles. My ex started out on a small Honda, went to a Goldwing, now rides a Harley. My son is an avid rider and my daughter is talking about getting one next year, also, and it's the Harley softail that she has her heart set on. I am a registered nurse, but have chosen to give up my nursing career as of this year and have returned to doing private security. I think I'm going thru the caregiver burnout phase, honestly. It's just nice to go to a nice, non-stress little job each night, I work midnights because I have always been a nightbird. And that's it for me, I guess. And thanx for inviting me, Darlene! Sorry it took me so long to get here......there just aren't enough hours in the day right now. Oh....and I seriously need a challenge. I have fallen off the sparky wagon in a big way for this entire last year......

Hi Everyone! My name is Eva and I live in Texas. I ride a HD Dyna Streetglide. Its black and chrome and lowered. I love riding even though this summer has been wicked hot here. Cant wait till next month so I can get back in the saddle. As for menopause, Im not there yet. I get the occasional hot flash but thats about it. I gained my weight during the first 8 years of marriage. I was on anti depressants and still ate to deal with stress. It was a bad mix. When I turned 41 I got off the meds and now at 42 am finally ready to do something proactive about getting healthier.

Hi All. I'm Shirley from way northern New York State. I'm so jealous of the folks who live further south and have a longer riding season but this summer has been pretty nice all in all. I have a Harley Nightster. I'm doing the menopause thing too and I decided to get healthy to avoid having to take medication as I get older if I can possibly help it.

I'm Kim from Kansas. I ride a Yamaha 650 V Star Classic. I've been riding for about 5 years. DH rides, too. I've been trying to lose weight for as long as I can remember and since having my thyroid taken out and going menopausal it has gotten worse. So, that's why I'm here, why I keep trying and because I want to be a hot biker chick!
