Thanks for the warm welcome to the team, I am sure to learn much from you all.
I did not mean to imply i ever had a thyroid issues before, I simply had weight issues. In fact i was tested a few times in my life but I was always told it was normal. I think in my case, I always tended to be sedentary, and once I started working at a desk, it was worse, and later I had children.. well you know. But that said I am shocked that I could have this disease hyperthyroidism and still be overweight. It just figures. ;)
Wow. Yes, what Wulfie said, plus I can imagine that going to hyperthyroid after all those years being hypo, was a BIG shock to your system! What timing... just as you had decided to do something about your weight, another thyroid problem rears its ugly head!
I've not gone thru hyperthyroidism... yet, although I did have some TSI antibodies when I tested for it. Just not high enuf to be considered hyperthyroid. I take quite a few supplements. Pyncnogenol, Carlson's Finest Fish oil, plus calcium, magnesium, zinc and vitamin D in addition to eating clean and making time to exercize. That worked well for me until I hit perimenopause, then like you I started gaining until I was 20 pounds over my original weight of 133.
There's several members on our team that have been thru the hyperthyroid stuff, that can answer your questions with their personal experience... and we're all here to lend emotional support.
Welcome to our team! : ) Mzzchief
New decade. Big world. Hello, 60!
Never underestimate the value of getting out of your own way.
Welcome! Not unusual for some of us thyroid peeps to swing from hyper to hypo and back especially with Hashimoto's thyroiditis which is an autoimmune form of thyroid Dx. It is flared up at times of pregnancy, puberty, menopause, prolonged stress, viral infections-etc. and can stay in one mode for a long time before swinging out. But-in any case-Welcome!
I have been a member of spark for a few years, however recently I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. Its strange, it seems most of my life i was curvy happily over weight by 10, 20 pounds, then marriage , kids, neglect, over worked and then unemployed i seemed to wake up, and realize i was over weight, way over weight. I had gained 100 pounds from the time i was 20s to my 50s and never really noticed. so I've been on a quest to get healthier ever since.
When I started spark, my weight loss was so slow, losing a half a pound at a time, but I thought, I am pretty patient, i can wait. Last summer I Started having hot flashes again, and I started losing so much faster, 2- 3 pounds a week. I thought wheww its finally working. but why am I having hot flashes? I had already gone through menopause. ( in fact a couple years before I steadily put on 1 pound a week, and stopped my period and rejoiced it was over! - I figured I could lose the weight when it stopped- 50 pounds later)
As I said earlier I was recently diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. and now am in the process of finding out why. I am scheduled for my first uptake scan next week. I figured i could learn a lot from all of you that have already gone through this.
