My name is Brent and I am new here so Hello- I've had thyroid issues for some time and have taken synthroid for 3 + years. My thyroid numbers are in the normal range according to my Gp. Vitamin D apparently has some bearing on how my body uses thyroid hormone or I think it does. Here is my question. Does anyone else have horrible issues with Sweating ? Some days I do and some days it's horrible. If I have posted this in the wrong place let me know. & hello. Thanks for any help anyone might offer.

Any doctor that says the inability to lose weight is not connected to hypo is not connected to reality. I'd be finding a new doc STAT.

The weight loss might be slow but I have been happy with my results. I had wanted to be down to 130 by my Birthday but my weight today was 130. The one thing you will find is with this diet it tells us not to get down if we eat the wrong foods or don't lose as fast as we want as that affects our dieting. If you have a e reader or can get the book it has a lot of helpful hints.

Hi Lededxy

I am Hypo and I started the FMD back around July. I have been struggling with weight loss for years. My Doctor wanted me down to 135 and I was 166. We first started eating the diet not eating all the right foods until we could purchase the foods on the list. We started seeing a small loss. After we started with all the foods on the list that we could find our loss started. In September I saw my Doctor and had weight in at 135 that morning. I am trying to lose another 5 pounds so I have continued on the program.

We found cooking the food in big batches and separating it into personal serving sizes and freezing it made it helpful for our busy schedule. We pull a portion out of the freezer and pop it in the microwave and we have dinner in a few minutes. We have found the foods in the organic section of most of the stores and we read the labels now on everything we buy. I have made a printout of the food list. That way I can take the list with me to the store and check the list as I am shopping.

I was talking to my Endro and he mentioned that not losing weight was not connected to Hypo but other issues. I am in the process of checking out what other issues were preventing me from losing weight.

keep up the great work I hope that you can see the similar results that I have.

I had large goiter for over 10 years, with normal TSH tests. It wasn't until during another unrelated surgery, my Dr. noticed the breathing tube had some resistance in my throat and ordered an ultrasound, and 5 seconds into the us, thyroid problem finally diagnosed. It was actually 3 golf ball size goiters. Had a total thyroidectomy 2 months later.

Goiter can actually be caused by hypothyroid (hashimotos, postpartum thyroiditis) because the gland hypertorphys, or by hyperthyroid because the gland is overactive. You have to go see you're endo to find out why you have one.
However I agree that you should not be taking iodine without the recommendation of your DR. If you take too much it can cause serious problems, especially because most iodine supplements contain potassium and in excess potassium causes heart palpitations and irregular heart beats.

SPARKIE1964- Goiters are often times caused by hashimoto thyroiditis, where antibodies are attacking the thyroid, it has nothing to do with low iodine and if you add iodine to a diet of a person with hashimoto it often times makes it worse. Iodine is a very controversial topic. it is good for a person with a normal thyroid yes but even too much for a person in great health can cause hypothyroidism. Big problem is you dont know when your getting too much.

even here where they encourage Iodine for hypothyroidism they say NOT to take it if you have hashimoto!

and Dr. Brownstien who encourages Iodine for normal thyroid and conditions that are NOT Autoimmune he too says its not good for hashimoto...

As long as your eating a healthy diet you should get plenty of iodine and should have no reason to supplement with kelp seaweed etc.

Had read that goiters can be caused by low levels of iodine. While I have always stayed away from using extra salt outside of mild seasoning, I have been tracking sodium which is typically over range. Will get tested & see. Thanks!

Sounds like you need lots of iodine! In our 'low salt' culture, people aren't shaking iodized salt over their food, and goiter is on the rise. There's no need to grab your salt shaker, as there is a medication for is called 'Idonal' (sp?), but you can get it easily from foods. I've avoided my 'family curse' of goiter by eating plenty of seaweed and salt water fish. Seaweed, like Japanese nori in sushi, or fresh seaweed salad is the best natural source of iodine.

Hi My name is Liza...I just joined at a friend's suggestion. I recently developed a goiter, went the dr. & preliminary tests show thyroid is normal. Meeting with endicrinologist next week to see what's causing it. Welcome any insight...

Ok when you open the "introduce yourself to team forum" there is a button that will say Create a new topic. You click that and then start a thread of your own. Thanks for asking

Hi and thanks for the response. I have a spark page, but don't remember joining this team. It has been awhile since I have really participated, newlty retired and have been traveling a bit. Just not a lot of time. However, I will try to go to the link to introduce myself to this forum. I have had a thyroid issue since4 I was about 14 yrs old and am now 62 and still trying to get it right.
Thanks, Lynda

PLEASE DO NOT POST AN INTRODUCTION HERE.

CREATE YOUR OWN THREAD TO INTRODUCE YOURSELF PLEASE!

This way other new folks can read this without scrolling down.

Welcome! Welcome! There's a lot of us on here but there's always room for more! Please feel free to ask any and all questions. One or more of us will answer. Please peruse past posts as there's alot of really good information contained therein. Many medical articles and studies are mentioned as well as personal experience and what has worked for us. And someone here has probably tried or thought about trying anything and everything!

One favor you could do for us is to create a sparkpage. Some of us go looking for you newbies in the hopes of welcoming you to the team and introducing ourselves. (that's how I thought to do this sticky post...I've been on the hunt without much luck!) If you have a sparkpage it helps us to communicate with you and get to know you a little bit. To do this you would go to the big word that says community and scroll down the drop down list that appears when you hover your cursor there until you see sparkpages and click on sparkpages. Once there you should see either an edit your sparkpage or create your sparkpage. It's been so long since I did that that I'm no longer certain how it appears if you don't already have a sparkpage.

Thanks! and We're glad you're here!
