Sunny, thanks for the welcome, and for the reminder about chewing (and adding the comment "until your teeth fall out"... too funny!). Most of the time (when I remember and don't forget) I do chew, and mash the food in my mouth while savoring the different flavors since I can't eat as much as before, and even close my eyes to focus on the food in my mouth before I swallow. It helps me to slow down and make the food last, and now, more importantly, to see if I might have trouble. I am starting to recognize that weird sensation that the food I'm eating might not be digesting well.

I can understand adding a little something to the mix. I had eaten egg salad with some low fat mayo, then another day had a hard boiled egg alone. I had more trouble digesting the egg than the egg salad. And I have been good about the drinking rule, always waiting a half hour. My husband sets his cellphone for me, so I know when to drink. He likes to help that way...lol.

But thanks most of all for your encouragement, especially regarding a healthier lifestyle. I am hoping this is the beginning of some wonderful changes in my life, and am grateful for a second opportunity.

It's like someone took my body away, and left me with a new one. Thanks for the response :)

Welcome to the wonderful world of the WLS journey. I am 3 yrs out and still sometimes my tummy reacts differently to the very same thing. You just always have to be aware of how you are eating .... chew chew chew till your food is about mush and things will go a lot easier.

My suggestion, other than chewing till your teeth fall out, *LOL*, would be to try a new food with only 2 maybe 3 small bites at a time. If your new tummy tolerates it well, then maybe the next day eat 2 or 3 bites again. Also, watch out for things that are dry - just doesn't seem to sit well with my tummy at all. If meat is too dry, I have to put a touch of gravy, or a pat of butter on it or else it will not sit well with me. Scrambled eggs are the same way, I usually put a small spoonful of salsa on my scrambles eggs or egg omelet for it to feel right going down and staying down. Remember NOT to drink water or anything else while you are eating or directly after eating -- wait 30 minutes before drinking ... I learned the hard way when I didn't follow docs rules completely ... I now don't drink with a meal or anytime soon afterwards.

Good luck and CONGRATS on what will hopefully be a life long committment to a healthy you!
Blessings,
Sunny

I believe in taking a positive attitude toward the world. My hope still is to leave the world a little bit better than when I got here.

Hello :) I have been a member of SparkPeople for some time, but just recently had by-pass bariatric surgery, December 19th, 2011. This is my first week where I am allowed to eat regular food, and the journey to this point has been challenging. After the operation I realized my body was not the one I have known for the past 56 years, it's a new one digestively, and does not react to food the way it used to. Not only that, it does not respond the same to food I have eaten after surgery either. Some days food doesn't bother me at all, and then others I am very uncomfortable. I know this is just a stage, and that further along the recovery road I will be able to tolerate more, but in the meantime, its been difficult trying to figure out what will be okay to eat, and what I should save for later when my new stomach is more resilient. Any feedback to those that have been here would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
