Psalms 37:4 Delight yourself also in the LORD [Yahweh]; and he will give you the desires of your heart.
Succeeding in life can be really hard sometimes! I remember the one day getting up, and everything seemed like an effort! I dragged myself out of bed, looked at the many different tasks that needed to be done during that day, and just got totally depressed. I tried to do something constructive, but most of the time I just did a little bit of one thing and a little bit on another task, and at the end of the day I was exhausted, felt unaccomplished and without goals or direction.
If you are feeling like that today then I have good news for you. It can change - and easily! My wonderful, wise husband said to me shortly after I had complained about my difficulties, "Get excited about what you have to do!"
I thought it was perhaps too simple a solution. I mean, how could getting excited about cleaning the kitchen help me? But wow, what a difference it made!
I decided, "I'm going to get excited about doing these dishes! I'm going to get through them as quickly as possible so that the place can look nice and the counters will be clear."
Then I got to work, and it was amazing to see and feel the difference. You see, just by making a decision to get excited and thinking positively about something that can be a real boring chore, it began to flow over into my actions. And do you know what? I accomplished that, as well as some other things I decided needed to be done - and I still had abundant energy left over!
You know, the same concept is true in the spiritual life. The above Scripture shows the same thing that I have been sharing, with regard to your relationship with the Lord. What are you desiring to receive from the Lord right now? I'm not talking about needs now, but desires. What would really excite you to receive? Do you have something special that you have been praying for and waiting on the Lord for?
Why not put the same idea into practise with your prayers? Delight yourself in Him! What does that mean? It simply means, get excited about the Lord. Get excited about the fact that He is in control of your life and He delights to answer you. Get excited about the fact that He wants to shower His special gifts on you and bless you, just like you desire to do to your children, or your spouse, or anyone who is special in your life.
Then do you know what delighting yourself will lead to? It will lead you to praising the Lord and blessing Him, because you have confidence in Him and His blessing in your life. That in turn will delight Him and He will want to give you more than what you asked for, because it says that He, '...inhabits the praises of His people.'
Do you want to see the Lord move His hand mightily in your life? Delight in Him, rejoice and praise Him, and know that He is pouring out His good gifts on you, even if you can't see it right now. Then look and see what wonderful things He will do for you as a result! You will never want to live any other way again!
One little step at a time.
