Hello Shirl!
Oh yes that is a good one. I also LLOOVVVEE indian takeaway. There is a place at Gateway, Copper Kettle or Copper Chimney that we always have to get takeaways from when in your part of the country. We have to go to Indaba every year, but won't go to this one. Love butter chicken, dahl, panur palak? hope I got that right..

The only takeaway food I ever really liked was a vegetable biriyani with dhal and salad made by a little place in the middle of Durban. But our office has moved out of town now and I pack my lunch every day.

Action and persistence: those are the keys.

Sigh. The stupid Double down has hit Canada. Not sure I'll be able to resist it. I'm thinking if I burn an extra 500 cal on the treadmil (Which, of course, would be and extra day at the gym) and then don't have fries or a drink with it I can pull it off......

A year from now you'll wish you started today.

I will be sure to avoid it when it hits the shelves of the local KFC in the Slowveld in 2020.

kfc.com - the double down has 540 calories, 32g of fat. Yikes.

Here is a description of it I found online:

KFC just released a new sandwich called the Double Down that features bacon and cheese IN BETWEEN TWO CHICKEN FILLET BUNS. Because, seriously, bread is just filler anyways. A recent review:

"That's it? That is the sandwich? That's not worth five dollars. Oh... oh my God. That is the best thing ever. I don't know what "Colonel's Sauce" is, but it is like a party in my mouth. This is completely worth the five dollars. Unfortunately I'm going to end up weighing 700 lbs after this, but it is simply amazing."

THere is an ad for it on you tube apparently too. I didn't watch it.

OOooh - chai tea is yummy. I make my own from scratch and it is soooooo good. Good to know it helps upset tummies too. (Wouldn't make it with milk then, I'm guessing)

Dietsafari, I get back every so often. More often before we had kids but now it seems to be every 2 years. My last trip was in Oct/Nov last year but it was not a pleasant or planned trip. My grandpa who raised me was seriously ill. He passed away 2 days after our return to Canada. But he did get to meet my youngest and my oldest now has memories of him. I have some family left in Gauteng area.

That bunless chicken burger will have the Atkins people smiling..
MAMABEAR became a mama in Canada. Having NO time for coffeeshops makes perfect sense in her case.
CELEST you lovveee coffee at that place on the beach with the sea sand floor and the birds that fly in and out. Where you need to keep a wary eye on the tide. You know, if I ever get to your part of the world I am sticking you for coffee there.
I think WIMPY has the best normal coffee. Seatle for take aways, and Brazilian for cappocinos.
By the way, while we are on the topic of hot beverages. I gave my 1yold some chai tea when she was ill (vomiting) by accident, thought it was rooibos in the dark, and it worked wonders.
MAMABEAR do you come back to visit often? You still have family here?

Why do you say "ah to have all your time to yourself"? is that one aspect that has changed for you since moving away from SA?
I can't even picture a bunless chicken burger...chicken stuck between two pieces of chicken?
Oh well, doesn't really affect me since I dont eat take aways anyway. Just had a curious moment.

Speaking of FKC, in the US they now have a bunless chicken burger there - instead of buns they use ..... yep...chicken. I still want to google the calorie count on that one. Scary.

You guys are making me homesick!! When I was still in SA I had no affinity for fast food but we used to go to Cappacinos or Mugg and bean everytime we went to a movie (which was weekly. Ah, to have all your time to yourself)

I once ate haloumi cheese, but didn't actually see what the fuss was about and it is so heavy in calories because it is deep fried, that I avoid it at all costs now.

I'm not into fast foods or take a ways, but if I were, I'd eat Nando's peri-peri chicken.....love that.
I can't bare Kentucky anything, soo oily and yucky.
I generally share the anchovy toast with my mom at Mugg&Bean or I have the breakfast at Cappuccinos but pass my bacon on to who ever is with me.
I also love Spurs salad valley, esp the hot salads and use the cottage cheese as my protein.

On my other teams everybody is talking about takeaways and resturants.
This means nothing to me, have had Mcdonalds (dissapointing) but Wendies and Taco Bell?

So lets talk about our Southafrican fast food bouquet. Lets list our favourites
The Good: My favourite new discovery is Mug&Bean Veggiepatch Sarmie. Mom and I share this delicous haloumi on rye with tomatoe, basil, spinach and olive. With salad and a squeeze of lemon. Mouthwatering.
And I do love Nando's chicken pita- always have always will.
The Bad: Kentucky Rounder with extra mayo. Had to terminate our special friendship.
The Ugly: Mug&Bean banana and apple pie with cream AND ice cream...but we don't talk anymore.

That is the list of my favourites, excited to hear what's yours.
Have a wonderful weekend, All!
