Where did you get the bike trainer?? Sounds like something I could use. Anyway I just joined this group. I'll try my best to keep my team posted.

Hello everyone, I happen to live with a cycling crazy husband and son....so a few years ago I decided "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" plus it's healthy and oh so much easier on my joints than walking. I am overweight and slow but I do enjoy riding my bike. I started with a big seat comfort bike with 8 speeds, thinking I'd never learn to use all 8 gears. Well, 3 years down the road, that bike was holding me back and my husband convinced me to upgrade to 21 speeds and cycling shorts last summer. I stopped riding in the fall and am just gettting back to Spark People and my bike this month (Feb.'13). Most days it's too cold to ride outside but my husband has helped me put the bike on a bike trainer so I can ride indoors & still get a good workout. BUT, I need motivation BIG TIME. So I'm joining this group to help me get motivated. I have a goal to complete a particular route in a nearby park by the end of this summer but it will take conditioning and regular riding. Sooo.....here I go!

Hello everyone, I just joined and this is a good challenge group for me since I love to ride. I also love to eat, so when my bike was stolen in August, I ate like I was still riding. Now that I have a new bike I plan on riding more to make up for time lost. I want to wish everyone good luck and good wishes in their endeavor

I'm new to the team, hoping to have found an active team after a few false starts. I will be logging miles on a Schwinn Airdyne bike in my basement, and outdoors walking when Michigan weather permits! I'm setting my initial goal realistically, with 200 for the month of January.

Hi, I am new to this team. I kayak during the summer, do paddling miles count? I mostly walk or run, but also swim and bike when the mood strikes me. I have been doing the Walk Across America route, but I am almost all the way across the country and looking for a new challenge.

I found this team because I decided the other day to blog about my "bike around the world" goal. I'll probably "bike around the world" before I "bike to the moon," the distance is a bit shorter; but who's to say that those miles from "biking around the world" can't apply to a trip to the moon? I hope I can pedal that long! It just seems really ambitious! Wow! That's big!

I have introduced myself before, but I wanted to do it again. I started using Sparkpeople, and then I joined this group and I stopped. I lost my motivation, and so I didn't even log in for months. Anyway, I love the idea for this group, I am resolved to lose the weight I need to, and I am determined to ride to the moon. So, I just wanted to say i'm back, and HI! I'm Holly!! :D

Hi HeelsOfApollo, I just joined this group too, but in attempt to answer your question:
I cycle an average of 5,000 miles a year. For 238,857 miles I doubt there's a time limit. I'm just hoping to live long enough and healthy enough to make it that far.

Good afternoon,
My name is Chris and I am just starting out here on Spark-people.com, and so far so good. I started my life of fitness about 1 1/2 ago when I was tipping the scales at 320lbs. I was very unhappy and was also scared that I would not be around for my children if I stayed this weight. So I started a diet called the Unofficial Mayo Clinic diet and wow did it work. I am now weighing in at 242 and just ran my first Half Marathon September 2, 2012. I have found that it is much easier to loose weight and train with people that support you being in your networking community. Now that I found this web site I think it will be even easier to complete my goals in the near future. I'm looking forward to hearing from others that like to run and that even possibly live in my area. I would love to have steady running partners that are as serious as I am when it comes to running.
Thank you for reading, Chris Tyszkiewicz
Hope to hear from you soon.

Bike to the Moon? Well, yes, I would love to! I am an active cyclist who has ridden hundreds of miles this summer, and would enjoy the challenge. I have been on Sparkpeople seriously since May, and have lost 28 lbs so far. I really enjoy this site, and all the information it provides. So, let's strap on the helmets, hunker down and ride to that Moon!

Hiya. I'm new to this team too. I'm primarily a walker, because I don't have a bike and the doc has told me that my back does not like it when I run. I'm not going to set specific goals for myself this month because I want to see what I'm actually doing first. I'm notorious for setting unreasonable goals for myself and then giving up. August can be a baseline and then I'll aim for a bit more every month. I'm hoping that being accountable for myself in a group like this will help me finally stay focused.

Hi everybody! :) I'm Chee and I'm new to Sparkpeople. My friend recommended this site to me a month ago and I haven't started till today. So far it has been exciting to be on this website when I got to learn how to keep track of what I eat, learn different exercise I can do, and meeting new people! I'm hoping that I can lose the weight and keep it off. I've tried many times before and failed and now I'm at my second highest weight in my life. I've already trimmed off 8 lbs before joining this website, but I need more to go and that's why I've joined this website. I love riding bikes, but I haven't done so in a while. Maybe bike riding will be incorporated into my workout for changing up routine. Thanks for reading.

Hi! My name is Holly and I am now in the maintenance part of my weight loss - WooHoo. Needless to say, I need to continue challenges so I have accountability and don't slip.
Typically, I run for exercise but just start taking up riding a bike (not using the word cyclist yet.lol) and swimming. Unfortunately, my swimming won't add much distance toward the moon because I am soooo slow. I had no idea how exhausting swimming is when you don't have any formal training
I look forward to jumping in and contributing to the team!

Hi all! The idea of this group is awesome :) I just recently got myself a nice vintage road bike and I love getting out there on it.
Is there any sort of a time goal as far as how long it should take to hit the mileage?

Hi I have been a member for awhile - most of the time I just use the trackers - I checked my mail today and seen mail from Bike to the Moon read it and thought that would be a good challenge to help me stay on track. I have been on this life changing adventure for almost a yr now - half way to my wgt goal - feeling really good - it hasn't been easy but there are more good days then bad days now - I wear a walk meter everyday - so starting May 1 I will start posting my miles to the moon I may not be on everyday to post but I keep a journal everyday I will be using that to update - Best of luck to everyone here and I hope to met alot of new friends.

Hi everyone! I am new to SP and this is my first challenge. I love the idea of bIking to the moon and it got me thinking...at some point in my life I want to walk the Appalachian trail. Well, I decided that while I bike to the moon I am also going to use those miles to bike to other places I want to go...like the App. Trail and NYC and Ireland. So, my first little goal is NYC since it is the closest...from York, PA to New York City is 185 miles. So, here I go!

Hi I'm Caz, been on SP since Sept 07, started to lose weight seriously in Jan 08 and was at goal by March 08 and have maintained ever since. I've used Route 66 (virtual) as a motivation to get some miles under my belt and Land's End to John of Groats, but this looks even BETTER. I'll cycle and walk my way to the moon! Thanks for setting up this challenge! Look forward to getting to know the team!

I stole this from an older thread on another team, I'm sure they won't mind, it's all to a good cause....it's ideal if you haven't a way to measure distance or for other activities like spinning etc.
Use this conversion chart to determine the number of steps per minute for activities other than walking. Multiply the number of minutes you participated in the activity by the number indicated in the chart.
For example, high impact aerobics for 30 minutes equals 6,090 steps (30 x 203 = 6,090).
2,000 steps equal one mile.

Hi Gwyn,
Welcome aboard, of course you can elliptical to the moon, anything that can be converted into distance and can be measure somehow can be logged as miles to the moon, or in your case kilometers. I've even managed to get a conversion for spinning and if you need me to post that again let me know.
Looking forward to seeing those miles pile up!

Hi everyone, How fun is going to the Moon!!! I can't wait to get started. I think I will mostly be walking to the moon (can one elliptical to the moon??). I have toyed with taking a spin class for a while (something I did years ago) so maybe this is the motivation I need to get to that class. I did my first two km on Saturday!

Hi everyone, my name is Melissa (as you may have guessed) I've had a recumbent bike for many many years and have used it alot but never consistently for very long, maybe a year at a time. With a lofty goal like the moon I should be on that bike for years to come so this is a great team to join. Can I use yesterday's 8 miles even though I wasn't officially a member yet? I am 45 years old with a teenage daughter who is the light if my life and a husband of 21 years who is the other light of my life.
See you at the moon!! To Infinity and Beyond!!

What an awesome idea! Like so many of you, I get most of my cardio on a recumbant bike for a variety of reasons. #1 being that I am a cluzt and can see myself flying off the back on a treadmill! #2 I have to have something to engage my mind (ADD) and on a stationary bike I can play games on my phone while riding and the time just flies by! I get 45 minutes in with out even realizing it! When I would do the eliptical I would go 15 minutes and be bored out of my mind and give up early. I am going to set a goal of 200 miles a month! I am going to seroiusly try to not be a slacker like I have been the last month! Time to get back on the bike seat and make my way to the moon!
BTW, My name is Jaime, I'm 32 years young, I have about 100lbs to lose but I am just going to take it a pound at a time and try not to get overwhelmed by the three digit goal! I live in Dallas with my amazing husband and dog. If anyone has any other team suggestions or challenge suggestions, let me know. I am in this thing all the way this time!
Best of luck everyone!

My name is MaryAlice. I have 2 grown children and 6 grandchildren. I have lost 50 pounds and have 10 pounds to go. I need to find a new exercise program. After being a bookkeeper for 30 years I lost my job because of the drought and ended up a cashier. My main exercise was walking and Mutt wishes it still was, but I need something that gets me off my feet. When I saw that this challenge can use my under used stationary bike, I jumped on it.
