Hi. I am new to this team and see that it has not been active. Is there a chance that it will get started back up and moving again?
My main interests are dancing and hiking at this point.
I started ballroom dancing about 3 yrs ago and found my nitch. I stopped dancing about a year ago when I took a night job but that job is gone and I started my classes again 2 weeks ago.
I hope to keep dancing and I hope that I can drop the last 20 lbs I gained while working the night job!

Hi,

This is my first day here. I hope we can get this team started again!

I like to dance even though I'm sort of uncoordinated I do it anyway! This year, I've had a lot of physical setbacks including a foot fracture back in August 2013, an old rotator cuff injury that recently flared up and some digestive difficulties. I've just recently started dancing again this past December. I'm being careful as I go along.

Dancing makes me feel good so I like to do it whenever I can. I hope we can get this team up and running again!

Joanne

Hi everyone!

I'm an almost-20-year old ballroom dancer. I picked it up in college last year and I simply can't get enough of it! International standard is my favorite, though Latin is pretty awesome too. I also did traditional Chinese dance for about 12 years before I came to college.

I'm so excited to find an active dance forum on here!

Keep sparking everyone and I hope you have a wonderful day! emoticon

Hi! I'm a 30-year old dance teacher. I started dancing at the age of 10 and fell head-over-heels in love with dance. I started with ballet, then added modern, then jazz, and eventually added tap. There was a short stint of hip-hop, but it was short lived. I'm too much of a ballerina. And to this day I'm embarrassed to even try hip-hop. I started substitute teaching at the age of 16 and got my very own class at the age of 18. I studied dance in college with the dream of performing professionally. I really wanted to be a ballerina. But numerous injuries and the desire to not have to always be auditioning made me rethink my career choice. I continued teaching through college and beyond. I absolutely love teaching and watching my students discover the joy of dance. Currently I'm teaching 15 hours a week. Some of that is Pilates. I teach ballet, tap, and jazz to all ages at a dance studio about 5 minutes from home. (Until recently I was having to drive 45 minutes.)

Sorry I wrote such a long post, but I wanted to introduce myself. I look forward to discussing the joys of dance with you lovely sparksters!

Hi! I am Lori, a 33 year old mama of 2 little kiddos. Myles 2 and Piper is turning 4. She takes dance class and loves it. I personally always wished that I could take dance as a kid and never got the chance. In high school I took dance as a class credit, loved it but never pursued it after that. I am definitely a dance around the house kind of person and I currently have a goal. I told my hubs that if I can lose 15 lbs he has to buy me a Wii and Just Dance and Zumba. So far I've lost 4 lbs!!! I can't wait emoticon

Hello! I by no means consider myself a dancer, but last year found myself sitting in the hallway while my son and daughter were taking their classes. It took a year, but I got up the nerve to ask the studio owner if I could also take classes (sans leotard and tights), and she said I could! For the past few months I have been taking 6 hours of dance per week (ballet, jazz, tap, and modern). Though I look foolish in a class filled with kids age 6-12, I am having a blast, and fulfilling a life long dream. I was recently in a production of The Nutcracker. I was saddened when other moms thought I was going to stop dancing after the Nutcracker (as though I only started to get a better part), and have decided that I want to dance for as long as I can. It is hard work, but I love it!

Finding joy everyday!!!

Hey everyone! New to the site and enjoying it so far! Love that there's a dance team. I'm a ballroom dancer. It started out in college where I did American Rhythm and International Standard. Stopped for awhile when I was settling in after a big move, then I picked it back up with force. Ended up learning WCS, argentine tango, american smooth, and international latin as well as salsa. Now I'm very happily teaching the American styles of ballroom. :)

Hi!!! I have a 14y/o daughter who is a dancer! All Styles, and 25+hours a week! I used to be fit like she is (weren't we all at 14?) anyway a couple years ago her studio offered free zumba to parents and students and from there I went into an adult Hip Hop class, what a fun way to keep moving and burn calories! I love to move even at the risk of embarassing my daughter! emoticon I need to get more active once again, as the pounds are creeping up on me with this desk job I have. Thought I'd pop in and join a new team! So hello everyone!

Kristen

It took awhile to figure out that she could run and when she did; she was long, long, long, long, gone. (Keith Urban)

Hi - love that Sparkpeople has this team! I joined Spark 2 years ago - just before I started ballroom dancing: American smooth and a little rhythm. I had lost 30 lbs that found its way back over the last 2 years, and after a strong start with dancing (4 times a week), in July 2011, dance started to fall apart for me (or rather my legs and feet started to give me trouble). I'm 59 now, and I won't give up! The podiatrist won't let me dance without wearing sneakers, so I found a custom-made ballroom sneaker with theraputic padding inside and can't wait til they arrive.

Hooray for ballroom dancing! It's the only exercise I've ever truly loved in my entire life! And I'm also sober going on 11 years, so it's a way to party without alchohol!

Thank you all for being here, and I look forward to "meeting" you all!

I don't know why it never dawned on me to search for a dancing team! I am totally new to ballroom dancing, but I have loved watching it from PBS airing the nationals, to dance movies like Honey and Shall We Dance, and SYTYCD and DWS. I finally learned to dance salsa as well as merengue and bachata three years ago while I was deployed to Iraq. We weren't in a hot spot, and I had nothing but time to read and learn to dance! I have two kids so that is hard to do once again :)
Two weeks ago I started meeting with a local ballroom dance club and I am learning the Vienese Waltz. Let me just say, I thought SALSA was hard! emoticon I'm really loving it though!

Hi! I just started dancing a couple years ago. I do mostly salsa but I also love cha cha, west coast swing, and bachata. I've tried waltz, foxtrot, tango, and rumba, but the street dances are more my style. My next challenge is to try hip-hop and/or jazz. Happy dancing!

Hi Wildntexas :) Did you get the Kinect? I tried Zumba on Kinect - the free trial downloadable content and felt like a drunken mongoose so I figured I'd scale it back to something I'm less likely to hurt myself doing. I am going to be starting some basic barre exercises next month. I'm looking forward to it - more than I did when I was actually in dance training too, how's that for funny.

It's called a Work Out, not a Wish Out. Get moving.

I've loved to dance ever since I was a kid, although I'm really not good at it. I've discovered youtube videos that get me moving, dance workout dvds, and am hoping for a kinect (with a dance program) for Christmas.

Hi, I just found this team yesterday and thought it would be fun to join. I danced alot as a teenager and really wanted to do something with it but life kind of got in the way, as did my weight and I stopped. Now, as a 36 year Mom I am wishing I could dance again so bad! I have really bad knees and need surgery that I am too afraid to have, since I've already had one and it didn't help. I do areobic kind of dance steps for exercise sometimes but I wish I could do more. I am really hoping that when I loose the weight that I want to loose, it will be possible. Till then I live through t.v. shows like So You Think You can Dance and dance themed movies! lol

"...it makes me that much stronger, makes me work a little bit harder, makes me that much wiser so thanks for making me a fighter." "..no more, its over." "...but in the end you'll see, YOU WON'T STOP ME! I am a fighter, I ain't gonna stop, there is no turning back, I've had enough!"

I love that there is a team for dance! I've been dancing since I was 3 and I absolutely love it! Whether it's going to a class or just sticking some music on loud and dancing away in my room!

I love doing ballet, however not quite managed to master pointe work yet, I also love tap, modern, freestyle and am looking into trying some ballroom (I love the elegance of the waltz)

I love dance films too! Total addict!

Hi everyone! I'm so excited to have found this group. I fell in love with dance in college after taking a bellydance class. I followed that up with ballroom, which was even more fun. Now that I've graduated, I'm hoping to build on what I learned already and maybe try some new styles emoticon

Hi, there, I've been dancing as long as I can remember - ballet, celtic, hawaian & tahitian as a kiddo, and then modern, lyrical, and jazz as a young adult. Danced my way through raising eight children - we'd crank up the music and dance at every opportunity - now continue with ballroom dancing lessons and dances with my sweetheart. It's not just exercise, it's a way of moving through the world... I'm glad to have found this team! Hello to everyone!

Hello there!

I still dance even though my feet have chronic pain.

I practice trance dance.

It is marvelous, and an alternative to vinyasa yoga that I do; as well as the walking.

In addition, the way I practice it (5 Rhythms by Gabrielle Roth) has given me cardio conditioning, and some of the cardio-endurance that swimmers have .... due to time constraints I have been rarely to a swimming pool ...

Site for trance dance:

www.gabrielleroth.com/

The exhilaration of a backbend down a column wall to Lyrical (one of the rhythms) ... aHAHHhhh ....!!

The pulsing of my arms against space ... to Staccato ...

The swirling, knee-bendingly almost off-kilter dervish-like movements to Flowing (and some of the others ...)

To explain, the rhythms are:

"FLOWING – the fluid, continuous, grounded glide of our own movements

STACCATO – the percussive, pulsing beat that shapes us a thousand different ways

CHAOS – the rhythm of letting go, releasing into the catalytic wildness of our dance that can never be planned or repeated

LYRICAL – the rhythm of trance, where the weight of self-consciousness dissolves, where we lighten up and disappear into our own uniqueness

STILLNESS – the quiet emptiness, where gentle movements rise and fall, start and end, in a field of silence"

Hello Dancers!

I am new to this website but happy to see there looks to be many useful tools here to help me in my quest for a healthier existence. My favorite exercise is tango walking and I just love Argentine Tango, which I have been studying for a couple of years on and off! Because of my weight I have problems with stamina and coordination but I won't stop ever 'cause I love it so! My balance has improved a lot and now I want to lose the weight so I can move to the next level (among other reasons). Tomorrow I start a more aerobic dance class - clogging, which I never thought I would try but the instructor, my friend, tells me she can show me how to do it without a lot of impact on my joints. I worry about that because I am very overweight and know I could hurt myself if I jump around a lot! Anyway, hello to everyone and I hope to see you around the forums! - Judie

I'm 36 in the military, outgoing, social, and a bit of a geek. I watch G4, the Science Channel and just about any halfway decent english dubbed anime out there. I like tech gear (Big screen TVs, high end computers and video games, though I don't play on them too much either of them.), hanging out with my felllow geeks running games, going to gaming/anime conventions, river rafting, back packing, boogyboarding, dancing alone with someone special or out at the clubs and/or just hanging out with my kids. On a more personal note I write free form poetry and I'm a bit of a romantic. I joined to get in better shape for the military and to look good for when I go clubbing and to conventions.

went to a baby shower/dance this weekend. this was a first for me. It was different in quite a few ways from the norm baby shower. First everyone was invited - men, women, children, the whole family and friends. It started with a great buffet dinner, getting to talk to family and friends we hadn't seen in a while next we went to watching the young mother open presents, with lots of pictures taken and then on to the dance for those of us that love to dance. the whole thing went from 6-9. Best baby shower I have ever been too!!!

I already go 2x a week to free Zumba classes on campus (I love my university lol) & thought this would be a great team for me

Hi, I started on here 4 weeks now but think it's about time I got involved in things a bit more so wanted to say hello.

Up until last year I'd always danced, various different styles, but last year my feet let me know they'd had enough and I just stopped dancing and piled on the weight. I've just discovered zumba though which I love as I can exercise AND move to great music again! Hopefully my feet will get fixed soon but in the meantime I'm going to make the most of what I can do instead of sitting on the couch!

Hi everyone! My name is Ashley and I am brand new to SparkPeople. I've been trained in ballet in other dance styles since I was a toddler, but have been out of practice for way too long--I consistently find that dance is the only type of exercise I TRULY enjoy! I'm currently looking for classes in Orlando, FL area.

Welcome to the team. emoticon I've not been here long either. I started March 3, 2010. I love to dance but right now I can't put much bounce into it but I hope to soon. Slow and steady and push myself a little harder each time is my goal. emoticon

Hello I just joined the team as I love to dance. I started dancing 1 week ago with Zumba class and it is wonderful. It is so nice to dance again. I am in my 3 week of my journey.
I did a 2 half mile walk lst friday and really hurt my shins and ankles and feet, I think I over did it. Anyways I have been doing lots of strength exercises on the floor from sit ups to lifting weights .

I just started Mar. 3rd. so have not lost any weight yet, I picked this team because dancing is one of the great loves of my life. At 64 I am slowing down a little, but still enjoy it immensly, even when I'm only tapping my toes to the music. I was bought up going to Mexican dances and if you have never been to one you should at least once in your life.

Hi I started SP January 3. Doing okay so far with a 14lb loss. The 3rd week of January I participated in a college alumni dance festival. The alumni danced to Michael Jackson's "Thriller". Full zombie costumes! It was an awesome experience. At 52, I can't do what I used to or even attempt to keep up with the younger alumni but the choreographer adapted parts to some of us more mature dancers. Gotta keep movin'!!! emoticon

Hi, I'm starting my second week here. LOVE to dance, although tend to do more esoteric stuff. Some ballroom, swing, and Zumba, mostly contra and English country. Thinking about taking up Scottish for the eye candy. emoticon Mostly, I just love to move my body to music.

My name is Emilio and I just joined Spark yesterday. I figured I would try a new approach to weight loss besides just doing it by myself. I LOVE to dance, never been professionally trained but I have been part of a dancer company all four years in high school, and I am currently on the dance company at my university. It is only a few times a week so not the hard workout I'd want but it's still something.

Hello, my name is Teiel i.e. CurveSpark. I am new to the team but not new to dancing. I started dancing at 7, ballet, but it was short lived. I didn't dance again until I was a freshman in high school, colorgaurd and salsa, but it too was short lived. I tried out for a dance company later on in high school but failed because by then I felt I was too large to do the moves anymore. My newest love is Latin dancing and belly dancing. I'm hoping to learn plenty and get really good at it while getting fit.

Hi everyone! I am so glad I found this page emoticon The best way to describe me nowadays is a banker by day and a dancer by night.... BALLET of course!!! emoticon Though I train heavily in ballet, I also study jazz, tap, and modern.

I am a member of a pre-professional company and now I am getting ready for some summer intensive and other auditions. I would love to have support and encouragement as I go against these younger (and AMAZING) trinas....

Hello everyone,
I'm Julie from Dieppe NB Canada. I LOVE to dance! I have recently joined Spark and trying to get my health back more than loose pounds. I would love to dance everyday. I have attended a two dance sessions, but without funds and a dance partner it is very difficult. My life partner does NOT like to dance! I managed to bring him to one beginner class years ago. It stopped there...:(
I currently work part time and will soon be out of work so dance classes are not an option for me at this time. I do go dancing once a week by myself where they play Latin music before the club actually opens as a bar. Last Saturday I danced 2hrs+ by myself since no one asked me to dance... I danced two songs with a partner during the whole night. Dancers are scarce, good dancers are even scarcer! With a good leed, I can dance anything from the country waltz to the Samba or even Forroh. Most dance schools charge for their practices and usually a dance partner is required. I do not want to compete! I don't even want to count or know the names of the moves... I just want to dance! My biggest dream is to attend a dance cruise, but without a partner or $... it is only a dream.
Julie emoticon emoticon

Hello - I am newly retired and looking to get back into dancing. I've taken a variety of classes over the years but I truly enjoy latin dancing - anything from Brazilian to salsa.

I am open and willing to change old habits and old thoughts surrounding food that no longer serve me well.

Hi. I'm Kim, 51 from the Pittsburgh area. I love to dance but I'm not into any structured dance form. I prefer to dance to R&B songs, and reggae but any fast paced songs will do. I try to dance several times a week. I'm also into Zumba and Turbo Jam both of which incorporate some dancing in their workouts. Mostly I just dance to CD's or a workout dance station on TV free-form style.
I'm so happy to have found this group and look forward to getting to know everyone better. kim

Hi! I am 26 and stationed in Stuttgart, Germany. I am an Army Reservist and an Army wife to my husband, who is currently in Afghanistan. I have been working hard to lose the weight that I put on 5 years ago during his deployment to Iraq...so far, as of Jan 8th I am 16lbs down (I do my weigh-in at my unit to avoid scale confusion cause I never weigh the same on other scales) and I have another 20-30lbs to go!

I danced when I was littler mostly ballet, jazz, and tap. It made me into a very handy soccer player and helped keep my feet quick in all of my sports. It also gave me the flexibility to be an excellent swimmer. Hope to join some kind of adult basic ballet class when we move back to the US.

Hello - I am 44, a retired Senior Chief's wife (Navy), mom of 2 boys (16 & 9), moved from Hawaii to rural Virginia 3 years ago and am adapting and adjusting to many things. I had been hoping for a great tool to help me pay more attention to my nutrition (as I'm going through peri-menopause) and connect me to a community where I can share my passion for health and wellness, while learning from and taking care of my own body.

I am an ACE certified personal trainer, Brown Belt Nia Teacher, former Group Fitness Director for the Honolulu Club and now... I'm The Bra Fairy (I am an orthopedic custom bra fitter... - I know --- midlife is GREAT! LOL) I LOVE TO SALSA DANCE IN D.C.!

Anyhow - transitions can be very stressful to our being: mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually - so my emotional body is the aspect I'm focused on right now.

Great to have a community I can easily connect to!

Very very cool concept and I'm excited to be a part of this journey...

Isn't dancing the most fun form of exercise? I always find that working on my cuban motion is a surprisingly good workout and a nice way to tone as well. The best part is you can do it at home in front of a mirror so you can focus your studio time on fine tuning your other technique. Plus it adds that little extra something to your Latin. :)

Hi All! I am a FAN-atical Ballroom Dancer from NC. I have been dancing Ballroom for almost 5 years (currently Intermediate Silver level) and all other forms of dancing all my life. I reduced 80 pounds since starting Ballroom but have had some creep back as my metabolism slows and my body has gotten used to the exersion. I'm looking for ways to challenge my body and continue to reduce so I can do lifts and wear those slinky dance dresses (think DWTS!). I love DANCE inspired exercise and am currently doing Salsa and Disco DWTS videos. I'm interested in what you do and how you challenge yourselves. I would love the support and contact from fellow lovers of DANCE! emoticon

Hi, so glad there was a team for dancers!
I was once a professional dancer though I retired at a very young age (before I was even 20) due to some serious health problems. I have been teaching dance since the age of 17 and battling health problems has caused some unfortunate weight gain. I'm looking to drop a few pounds and get my body back into shape with dance being my primary physical activity!

Hi! I live in Toronto, Canada. I've taken a few dance classes here and there, and now I've signed up for beginner Swing. My boyfriend loves to Lindy Hop! I like it too, but need more practice. He lives far away so hopefully by the time I see him in November I'll be able to social dance with him without him having to say "kort, kort, länge" ... that's "short, short, long" in Swedish!

Great fun way to burn calories and get heartrate up!

Hi, all. My name is Wendy. I live in Colorado, have a wonderful life partner and 3 children if you count four-legged ones (dog + 2 cats), love to crochet, crossstitch, and read, am teaching myself to knit and paint, dream of dancing (or knowing how, anyway!), and just started walking 5Ks this year (which I absolutely LOVE). Hope y'all have a great weekend!

Hi Everyone! I'm new to this team also (and pretty new to Sparks). My husband and I love to dance - Is there a better way to exercise??!!?? I don't think so. : )

We love to swing, 2 step, a little electric slide here and there, the sway, and a few more line dances. Swing is definitely our favorite, we could do it all night long.

Keep dancing!
Leigh

If you have lots of tiny or large "adventures," please do check out the team "Life's Little Adventures." I joined, as we love to travel, and there were only two members (me being number 2). By default I became a co-leader. We are desperate for GREAT members (which defines all Sparks). Check us out when you have time, we'd love to have YOU on our team.

Smiling,

Hi everyone!!!! My name is Monique I am 18 years old. I recently joined sparkpeople because I am fed up with being overweight. It has not only affected my health but it has had a huge affect on my dancing capabilities and skills. I am hoping to lose weight before I start the new chapter of my life in college. If you have any tips or advice I'm definitely open. I'm mainly hoping to beat this by doing what I love most...dancing!

Hello, and Welcome to Team Dancers!

I really hope that you get involved and post frequently to let us know how you're doing. We're a pretty relaxed and casual community, and I hope you find us supportive and helpful!

Now, on to practical matters! This is the correct forum to use to create a new thread introducing yourself to the team! Simply look above to "Create New Topic" and go for it! Tell us who you are, what kind of dancing you like best, and ask any questions that may have come up for you! Remember to also post responses to others who are introducing themselves in other threads. We ALL work to create the community that we want!

As you get more comfortable with Sparkpeople and with the team, join us in the "General Discussion Forum!" There are a TON of threads in there with lots of interesting information. Browse through or start your own! There are a few sticky threads that tend to remain on the top, but don't let that limit you!

So, in summary, HAVE FUN!!! emoticon

PS: Remember, don't introduce yourself in the reply to the this message . . . be bold - start your own thread!!
