I'm also a type 2 diabetic. 11 years now. The first 9 were on increasing doses of oral medication.
21 months ago I went on a diet to loose weight, it turns out it was a low carb diet. To my utter amazement, though I guess I shouldn't have been so amazed, my blood sugar was normal in a very short time, like a few days. Really I just forgot to take my medication while on the diet and measured my blood sugar fearing the worst, but getting a surprise of almost normal numbers.
I've had two HgA1c tests in those 21 months, and no more diabetes medication. The cost is that I now eat differently than before. Low carb, usually a maximum of about 30 grams of carbs per day, sometimes stretched to 50. Supper today was salad, tacos without the shell, and dessert of cake made with vanilla protein powder rather than wheat flour.
Hi all! I've been a member of this group for a while, but not active. I would like to become an active member, and meet some new friends along the way.
I'm Type 2, diagnosed about 5 years ago. I'm on oral meds and insulin, and at this point am not well controlled. I'm working hard on it, but man is it tough! I have an appointment Tuesday with the endo, and I'm hoping to get some good info from her to help me get things under control.
