Best way to learn what you need to know? ASK! LOL
Seriously, lots of wonderful people on this team, plus an outstanding MDG Library... we even have a resident expert, Coach Tanya who keeps track of us and fills in some of the blanks...
Staying active, eating right, and drinking plenty of water are great aids in reaching the goals you mention... Welcome aboard! Kathy
"The real secret of success is enthusiasm..." Walter P. Chrysler said it, I believe it. That's what I want in my life--to give my imagination a chance, to live with energy and enthusiasm!
Ralph Waldo Emerson said 'Life belongs to the energetic.' But you don't have to be frenetic and hyper--some energy is quiet and steadfast... and that works too! LOL
Life comes in specific increments, which we receive as a gift of one moment at a time. That's why it's called the PRESENT!

Thanks everyone for all the encouragement. I am really hoping this will work for me. I have had diabetes since, well diagnosed Jan 1998. These past 10 years have been difficult. I know I have to get and keep this in control and that means life style changes. I am already starting to see changes in my eating habits and with my husband understanding why I need to make the changes he accepts the difference and can be encouraging too. Five days ago we adopted a new puppy so keeping up with him is helping me to keep moving. We are working on opening a icecream coffee shop, soon, and I need to be in better shape to manage daily operations. All in all I have many reasons to keep my diabetes in check. Looking forward to getting to know everyone.

Hi Alice,
Welcome to Sparkpeople! I too am recently diagnosised (Nov. 1,2011) as type II pre-diabetic, and am just working on losing weight and exercise to keep my blood sugars under control. I go in next week for my 3 month A1C blood test, to see if I have been able to bring it down some!! Praying so much that I can do this!!! I have heard others with great success stories that after losing weight and exercise they have even gotten off their meds! I have lost 13 lbs so far and have about 20-30 more to go!! slow but sure, I know I can get the rest of the weight off! My oldest daughter is getting married in June, 2012 -- so that is incentive to lose weight, but, even more so, the pre-diabetes!! Glad to have you join us, and as we all work at the battle of losing weight, we can all talk about our success stories also !! Good Luck and stay tuned!! SDWG

Hi Alice. Welcome. Weight loss has an immediate impact on my sugar levels. I have had type 2 diabetes for years and am currently working on changing lifestyle than dieting so weight loss will be permanent. I find diabetes to be very interconnected i,e, one change brings others so a lot of opportunity for improvement. Keep us posted on how it goes. Jim
