You will feel so much better once you get your BS under control. I remember how tired I was before being hospitalized. Once I got out I walked ten minutes after every meal. That really helped me alot. Just take baby steps and you will get there. Drink the water, measure your food and make sure it is balance. Soon you will feel so much better and will be able to exercise more. We are all here to support you. Love and Light Carol.

I have fibromyalgia, so overdoing is just as bad as not doing anything! LOL

I don't know if you see a specialist or not, but I have LOTS of them! LOL and I was told that for diabetes control, the best kind of exercise is to COMBINE strength building and cardio workouts. I walk everyday, in five minute segments right now (had a flare up and had to go back to square one! LOL) And, I have two sets of physical therapy workouts (thanks to my physical therapist! LOL) that includes a set of "lying down" ones (I do them Monday and Thursday) and "standing/sitting" ones (Tuesday and Thursday) Wednesday and Saturday, I "play". Household errands, shopping, fun stuff... like swings in the park kind of thing, or dancing around the house to my favorite oldies (or newbies--LOVE Black Eyed Peas! LOL)... just enjoying myself and the movement. And if I get tired, I take a break and sit or lay down. I have a timer and do pacing. And y'know, if people like me can do this, I KNOW
emoticon Just do as suggested and start small and add as you go. Before you know it, you'll be feeling so great and enjoying life so much more that you'll be thinking that 30 minutes your doctor wants isn't enough! LOL

Welcome aboard!
Kathy emoticon emoticon

P.S. Don't forget to DRINK PLENTY OF WATER! LOL It really does help...

Good questions Valerie. I know before my diagnosis I was so tired all the time. Once I got BSs under control and exercising, I can't believe how much energy I have. And the advice you got about gradually increasing your exercise was great. That's how I started out and it really works. They even suggested that in my DM education class. If you try to do it all at once, you won't want to do it all. emoticon We are here for support. Post often and let us know how you are doing!! Good Luck!!

Keep posting here so we can all stay in touch.

As to feeling crappy; how are your blood sugars? How often are you testing? How are you managing them?

You have gotten good advice. Take each day as it comes. some days definitely are going to be better than others. That's part of life. YOU know yourself best, so just set your goals, write 'em down, and do your best. If you need to review and revise your goals, so be it! That's what being honest with yourself is all about.

Hope you have a better day.

beating yourself up doesn't help. Do what you can start with the 10 min than try doing 2 10 min walks a day for a few days. Thats what I did, I started with 10 min twice a day for 3 days than 4 days than 5 days. Now I do about 35 to 4o aday. Also celebrate your success it helps

I cannot walk outside as the sidewalks are too uneven, there are tiny pebbles that trip me, etc. So my exercise of choice is treadwalking.

I agree with Valerie. If you try to do the whole thing at one go, you will be setting yourself up for failure and that will make you feel even worse.

Another approach might be to increase by adding another 10 minute segment DAY to your week, so you would be doing 4 X 10 minutes. Then you could add the 5th day. This would give you time to rest between session and also get you into the habit of working out 5 days a week. As you progress, you could increase the duration of each session, but if one day you are just too sore or exhausted at the 10 minute mark, it would be ok because you would still be maintaining 5 days a week. And you will be surprised how quickly you will get up to the 30 minutes per day.

If you don't like to watch TV while treadwalking, use a DVD player and watch a movie, or get one of passing scenery so you feel like you are walking outside. I have one soap I watch so I watch it while on the treadmill. It helps make the time go by so you don't even realize how long you have been walking.

Good luck and let us know how you progress.

Well, I do know that beating myself up has never worked so instead I look at every day as a new start and act as my own personal cheerleader.

Your doc says 30 min/5 days a week and he's hoping that'll spur you on to get active. If you can barely do 10 minutes/3 times a week, then do that this week and next. Make it non-negotiable. Is your treadmill at home? I used to get up, have my coffee, then hop on in my nightgown!

After two weeks, add a few minutes to each total. Do that for a week or two and then add more. Once you're doing 30 minutes/3 times a week try for an extra day a week. In other words, don't set yourself up for failure by trying to bite off a big chunk right now. I'm not a TV watcher but by having my treadmill in front of the TV, I would watch interior design shows or some other "TV fluff" to get the time to go by more quickly.
