Like you I love to cook, so I've been experimenting with some of our family favorites simply by adjusting some of the ingredients and cooking methods. A big part of this process (at least for me) has been about portion control. As for exercise with the kids, just playing with them is great exercise and you can even track it on the fitness tracker. Just 20 minutes of playing burns 203 calories, I love to play tag and hide and seek with my niece...it's even more fun knowing I'm burning calories. My niece also loves doing the dvds with me that are more like dancing, she makes up her own dance to the music, but we both enjoy and I get my workout in. I look forward to sharing this journey with you.

I agree with Angie walking is a great form of exercise. You might also look into the Walk the Pounds Away videos by Leslie Sansone. They are great and my grandsons like to join me in them once in awhile

to the team and Sparkpeople! There are a lot of recipes on this site. Many are remakes of old favorites. Do your children help make some meals? That can help them learn good food habits and help introduce them o new foods. Good luck on your journey.
Hi Ring Leader and welcome to the team. I don't think you will have any problems once you get started with the program, the key thing here is in moderation. We all give into our temptations once in a while, mine was last night, was eating Sundried Tomato and Basil hummus and just couldn't stop, finally had to pull it from my own hands. You know your kids might just like to help you along with the diet too, pack them little healthy snacks like yours. As far as the exercises, I'm sure the kids will get into the act with you and if not walking is a great form of exercise, just ask our Mrs. Johnson (Kathryn) who walks every day and is loosing weight doing it. So just jump right in, and don't worry we will be with you every step of the way!!!

Hello new friends! Glad to be getting involved with a community that will motivate and inspire me to reach my goals. Any great recipes for healthy alternatives to favorite fat filled dishes would be greatly appreciated. I love to eat and cook and I am struggleing with new foods and recipes. Going to try quinoa this week, getting off milk and soda and sugar. Any motivational pictures stories or ways to include my kids in a great workout where I can actually maintain a fat burning heart rate.
