Baby steps are the key. I'm doing the same thing telling myself that it's a lifestyle change not a diet. Using the Sparkrecipes link has help make it a lot easier. They have some great recipes that definetly don't taste like "diet" food.

Baby steps that lead to lifestyle changes are a key to success. Gotta retrain the brain to not use the "diet" word. ;) it takes time and with everyone here along with the tools and articles... You will be seeing your own success in no time!

Happy you are here!

Awesome answers, suggestions and help guys. Keep it coming. Don't forget about our buddy area either. A few of our members have gained great confidants there and have excelled and succeeded from having someone they could talk to one on one.

I agree w/ the little at a time will get us there. I love that quote "how do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time." All of us here have a pound to lose, then another pound and another pound. Some of us just have more "anothers" than the rest of you! emoticon

I had a similar wake up call from my doctor. I have really bad osteoarthritis in my knee and it just kept getting worse the more weight I put on. I starting reading the Joy LIFE Diet and The Joy Fit Club and they really helped. It's not a diet, it's a lifestyle change. They have several recipes in them as well as some great inspirational stories. You can't go cold turkey because your body will just react to the decrease in food. I am making some great tasting meals that are good for me. Sparkrecipes has some great recipes as well. You can find that link on the Healthy Lifestyle tab. I figured out my trigger foods and just try to stay away from them. My snacks use to be the entire potato chip bag and I haven't had one for over 3 weeks now. My new snack of choice is a apple. If I feel hungry and it's a while before my next meal, I have an apple or a yogurt so I'm not in a food frenzy for my meal. I also try not to eat after 8:00, so no more eating because I'm bored. Good luck! emoticon

3 to 5 lbs a month is very reasonable and do-able. However don't get too hung up on the scale number... rather get hung up on improving diet and exercise. If I set a goal of 4 lbs a month, I'll lose 3.5. If I set it for 12 lbs... I'll lose 10. I just seem not to do well w/ a number goal. I have to work on behavior.

Being unhappy with the way I look and having my doctor set a goal of 3-5 pounds off in a month encouraged me to get started and do it! I hope to get the movitvation and support I need from SparkPeople to get going and to sustain my effort.
