I'm so glad you decided to join this awesome team. We are an encouraging, caring bunch of gals. I hope you find yourself at home here. emoticon

Today is the first step to becoming a healthier you emoticon Remember slow and steady wins the race emoticon emoticon Start out with a small winnable success. My first challenge to you is to set up your nutrition page and track what you put into your mouth for three days. We often discover that we ingest a lot more calories than we thought. I believe your nutrition page is the single most important thing you have in your arsenal for a healthy life. If you go to high or too low you will not get the most optimal results. Let me know on the ROLL CALL thread if you accept my challenge and let us know each day if you managed to stay within your calorie range. This will get you started. If you don't stay in range, that's ok. The challenge is to track your food. emoticon Once you get used to tracking then we can work on staying within your nutritional ranges. If you have any questions please get a hold of one of us or anyone else on the ROLL CALL thread.
emoticon emoticon emoticon I look forward to hearing from you soon.

I am so proud of you for quitting cold turkey. Doing it for two nights in a row is emoticon . I know you can make day 3. I have not been able to do it. I have had to use other methods to allow myself to eat at night. I think it's because I don't sleep well at night. I have a condition that makes me want to be up at night and sleep during the day. Hi, my name is Rachel. I have been with spark since 2006. I have had good years at losing except last year was stressful and I gained. I liked that you all have challenges and I sure do need them. I want to get fit again. I was almost to my goal and now I am so far from it. I eat at night so I have challenged myself not to eat after 7 . This will be night 3 for me.
I am going to be 40 this year at the end of May and I would really like to like what I see in the mirror as conceited ad it sounds.
I am a mom of three and between kids and a husband it is very hard to eat right lol
I hope this team will be a right fit for me! 😊

Hi everyone! My name is Ashley and I'm back on sparkpeople after a very long hiatus. I have been through a lot in the past year and I really need to get back in shape. I have been having a really rough time staying on the wagon...and am hoping that I can find some good support and someone to help hold me accountable :)

Have a goodnight!

Hi! I have rejoined SparkPeople for the bazillionth time about a week ago and am ready to take it seriously this time. Something finally clicked on in my head that said that I really need to do this. I have started exercising and moving more and eating ALOT better. I have been using Shakeology and that has really curbed my cravings for sweets. That brings me alot of relief because that was one of my biggest downfalls. I look forward to learning more about you all, and learning more about a new way of life.

Hey everybody!

I'm new to the team and new to Spark People as well. I joined today and I'm liking it a lot so far. I love collecting points and tracking whatever I do heath-wise. :)

My name is Inkeri (Spark People username InkeriP) and I live in Finland. I'm 31 years old and I'm married. I've always been overweight and I've lost quote a lot of weight before, but I gained it all back during the years. Now I've gathered up enough motivation to start again and lose it all for good this time!

Feel free to check my Spark Page and add me as a friend if you like. One can never have too many friends when trying to lose weight. emoticon

BRANDY - emoticon to our great team. We are all here to help support and encourage one another on our own individual journey. We're glad emoticon you decided to join us. The challenges are all different here and we have weekly, monthly and bi-weekly challenges to keep us busy and not give us too much time to get bored, make new friends and help us to get fit as well.

You do seem to have a lot of motivational reasons to keep you going in the right direction: 2 girls and a cousin in stage 4 colon cancer. Now is definitely the time to get your own life turned around by starting your healthy lifestyle change.

If you haven't already done so, be sure to the Site Guide which is located on your Start Page. There will find a Welcome Guide and a Site Guide Tour that will help you know more about SparkPeople and help you get around the SparkPeople site. Be sure to Create your Spark Page as well. Your Spark Page will allow others to get to know you better and vice versa. It's a way that people can add you on their "Friend List" and be able to give you special words and Special Goodies to help encourage you along your journey.

Don't forget to join us in the Roll Call/Chat Forum and let us know how you're doing, your successes and make friends and gain a great support team.

Have fun and enjoy your journey.

JENNI - emoticon to this great team of caring people. We are here to help support and encourage one another through our journey to a healthy lifestyle. I also have fibromyalgia but I have found that if I don't exercise, it seems to get worse. The sugar definitely doesn't help the problem. There is a team in SP that is for those addicted to sugar that might be of interest to you. You can also go to the Articles & Videos section on your Start Page and search for breaking the sugar addiction.

We change our challenges often so as to keep us from getting bored. Sounds like you have a good goal set for yourself. I'm hoping to get me a good treadmill myself to help my exercising improve even in bad weather.

Join in our Roll Call/Chat Forum and let us get to know you better. Tell us about how your day is going as well as your successes.

Hi everyone! I'm Jenni. I have for the second time gained the 20 pounds that I lost. I'm a vegan and eat very healthy..... except I went on a massive refined sugar blitz. I am totally addicted to sugar...Sour Patch Kids, Twizzlers, you name it. I'm turning 50 in about 6 months and have fibromyalgia and I stopped exercising. My goal is to do 10,000 steps a day. Yesterday my positive step was to fold all the laundry hung on the treadmill. So, when the big storm hits tomorrow I can walk inside.

I'm so glad you decided to join this awesome team. We are an encouraging, caring bunch of gals. I hope you find yourself at home here. emoticon

I've been down that road of losing and gaining. It's hard if you stop interacting with your support group. You know how to do it. The challenges will definitely help you get back on track.

We have our own little support group called ROLL CALL. Several of us check in each day, some go us check in once in awhile. We encourage and support each other. We try to keep each other in line. I hope you stop by to say hello. We would love to assist you get back on track.

Hi I'm Robin,

I've been a member of SP since 2010. I had lost 56 and have gained it back again. I'm having trouble getting started again on losing weight and figured these weekly/monthly challenges would help me.

I'm looking forward to March and new start!

Hi -
I'm Em. Been with SP for 12 months. I've lost 60+ pounds, and need to lose 26 more. I no longer need any diabetes meds, and now only take a low-dose bp med.
Twenty-six pounds is such a low number that I fear I'm becoming a little cocky, and haphazard in my weight-losing attitude. That's why I'm here: to kick it up a notch, and to remember where I came from so that I don't lose the momentum.
Nice meeting all you folks (and seeing some familiar ones, too).
8-)

Hello from the frozen eastern Canadian prairies. I'm looking for some challenges to keep me on my toes. I've been with SparkPeople a number of years, most recently returning in August 2013. I'm down 19 pounds, with 31 (or a bit more ;) ) to go. I'm 57, a widow, with 2 grown "children" who are out on their own. I am the proud "mommy" to two german shepherd cross rescue dogs. I retired from teaching 3 years ago, but have been doing term contracts, so am back at it, full-time, until end of June.

I really like the weekly challenge thing and will join in one tomorrow when the new week starts.

Never mind waiting for the light at the end of the tunnel; stride down there and light the damn thing yourself.

Be kinder than necessary ~ everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

Suddenly, all my ancestors are behind me. "Be still," they say. "Watch and listen. You are the result of the love of thousands."

I'm glad you finally found the time to introduce yourself. We have a loving, encouraging bunch of gals. I am also on maintenance for about 9 months. I also don't do the food tracking very often because I know when I've gone over and when I'm on track. I keep myself at 170. If I go up 2 lbs. I start really watching it. I am careful about my exercise. I am with you about staying healthy. That's how we are going to stay happy and healthy and feeling good.

Hi Everyone. Finally found time to introduce myself to this team. I live in North Dakota and just realized that I will have been a member of SparkPeople for four years as of tomorrow.
I am married with two children, 2 cats and 4 gold fish. I am motivated by goals and challenges although I haven't had much time for that in the last few weeks. I guess I've been maintaining since last May with some ups and downs. It's my second time since joining SparkPeople that I've had to lose the weight and I hope to make this the last time. I'm still managing to exercise but am having a little trouble sticking with the food tracking. For me, this is more about a healthy lifestyle. Hope everyone is having a great week. :)

My first challenge to you both is to set up your nutrition page and track what you put into your mouth for two days. We often discover that we ingest a lot more calories than we thought. I believe your nutrition page is the single most important thing you have in your arsenal for a healthy life. If you go to high or too low you will not get the most optimal results. Let me know on the ROLL CALL thread if you two accept my challenge and let us know each day if you managed to stay within your calorie range. This will get you started. If you don't stay in range, that's ok. The challenge is to track your food. Once you get used to tracking then we can work on staying within your nutritional ranges. If you have any questions please get a hold of one of us or anyone else on the ROLL CALL thread. emoticon emoticon emoticon I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Hi everyone!!! This seems like a great & supportive group! I'm trying to get back on track & my goal is to lose 20# by May 18th. I really just want to feel more comfortable with myself & in my clothes & healthier overall. I am currently attending veterinary school in St Kitts.. West Indes. I absolutely LOVE it here although school can be insanely overwhelming at times! I'm starting slow with the exercise and trying hard to eat healthy initially. I committed to tracking, staying within my calorie goal, walking the dogs every morning and also the huge hill behind our house 3x/week. I am also cutting out any week night drinking (as one easily turns into 5 beers for me)! Looking for motivation and support and if our goals are similar (or not) feel free to message me!

Diets never work. The only way to get the weight off and keep it off is to permanently change your lifestyle. It sounds like your off to a great start. I also have a cheat day and it helps keep me grounded and stay on track. I wrote a blog recently that many people have found useful. The name of it is Make Friends with your Food. You may find it useful. It took me two years to get where I wanted and it's about some of the things I learned.

I look forward to hearing more from you. I can be found on the ROLL CALL thread if you need anything. We have quite a friendly group there. Today is the first step to be coming a healthier you emoticon Remember slow and steady wins the race emoticon emoticon

Hi! I have been on and off diets for many years and just recently decided to consider myself going through a change of lifestyle rather than another diet. I am committed to exercising at least 5-6 days a week, only eating 2 servings of whole grains a day, 1 serving of lean beef a week, and I am only eating healthy sugars (like fruit) other than my one cheat a week. This is my 3rd week following my new lifestyle plan and not only have I lost 6.2 lbs but I just generally feel better. I haven't been able to get 8 glasses of water in although it's not for lack of trying lol! And I have no problem at all getting 7-8 good hours of sleep a night! I joined Sparkpeople in 2008 when I wanted to get myself on track because I had gained like 40 lbs since my wedding. Well, here I am back and this time I have about 66 lbs to lose! I can't give up this time!! I am interested in joining this team because I think the weekly challenges will help me stay motivated and going strong with my willpower and focus. emoticon

This a wonderful group. We love to help and encourage others whenever possible. WOW, it sounds like your doing all the right things. Most people lose weight naturally by eating healthier and exercising. Losing slowly is the way to go. Not only because of burn out but because losing to fast does not give your body a chance to adjust. I took 2 years to lose just over 100 pounds. Don't worry to much about the scale. As long as you don't let the scale make or break your day, it doesn't matter how often you peak. I used to check it twice a day. emoticon I stopped doing that after a while. I guess I just got tired of it. I hope you find yourself at home here. Welcome again.

Emily - emoticon to our great team of caring people. We're all here to help support and encourage one another. We all have a "new day" every so often. We're so thankful that we do get those days to start over fresh. We all fall off the wagon and have to start over from time to time but the thing is that we forgive ourselves and start anew. Don't strive for perfection but strive for consistency and persistence.

Keep on tracking your emoticon emoticon emoticon as well as tracking your emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon . Be sure to track everything that goes into your mouth whether good or bad foods. 2B4EVERFITAT50 - emoticon to the team. So glad emoticon you could join our team. Sounds like you've been pretty busy since joining SP on the 1st of January!! emoticon emoticon . You're right about having the fear of getting burned out and feel the need to step back a little. I've done the same on a couple of challenges myself. Sometimes we have to do that for our own self-preservation.

Slow emoticon and stead wins the race. The slower you lose, the better chance you'll have of keeping the weight off.

You have some very doable goals set up for yourself. emoticon. We are a very active team here. The challenges change often so as not to let us get too bored. We are also a very caring group of people who are here to help support and encourage one another on our journey. Stop over at the Roll Call/chat forum and let us get to know you more. It's a great way to make new friends emoticon .

Hi everyone, I'm Emily. I joined this team a couple of months ago, which was about the time I totally lost my mind!!!! I quit sparking, tracking, and exercising. What was I thinking?? Well, I know what I was thinking and you can probably easily guess. Holidays. But I had an ugly wake-up call today. I've gained 15 pounds! That's it! 2 years in a row. So here I am again starting over, so to speak. I'm using the old fast-break goals. right now I won't join any challenges because I've got to just get back into my old habits--the good ones. When I've got my groove back, I'll join some of the challenges on this team. For now, just tracking my food is a challenge!

Hi, I am new to the team and actually pretty new to SP (January 1st). I started with a 10 minute exercise streak in January to gain some energy and the rest of the month I took to set up shop. I created grocery lists, cleaned out and reorganized our pantry, fridge, freezer, went grocery shopping, added foods to my favorites in the nutrition tracker, established long term goals, medium milestones and short term action steps, created a spark page and basically familiarized myself with as much of SP as I could. The last week in January I started tracking food and stayed in my calorie range 4 days that week. Despite only tracking and eating within my calorie range for 4 days in January, I ended up losing 8 pounds anyway with the exercise streak and just inadvertently paying more attention to what I was eating I guess.

I am using "The Spark" as my guide and read it in December. Haven't done my visual collage yet, but plan to at some point. My goal is to be fit at 50 (a year and a half away) which includes losing 50 pounds among other things. Slow and steady is the way to go for me and I have even backed off on a few things because I was going too fast (like the January jumpstart challenge) and I was concerned I would burn out. If it won't fit into my lifestyle on a permanent basis, I am not going to do it just to see the weight come off faster. Been there, done that!

Right now I am doing the 28 day bootcamp challenge along with 10 minutes of cardio (at least) a day, staying in calorie range 4 days a week and trying very hard to not check the scale more than once a week (haven't been successful on this last front yet though).

This team looks like fun and seems very active. I am excited to be a member. emoticon

Hi,
I'm new here and just getting started (and trying to figure out the site). I'm close to the heaviest I've ever been. Looking forward to trying something new and sticking with it. Started the 21 day kickstart vegan program Monday. So far so good.

Thank you all for the warm welcome!
I am not sure how things have changed..it has been a while and I am fresh on the wagon! Lol.
I am definitely in a constant adjustment of priorities trying to see what feels best in life while still allowing me to be productive and rested :)

We were not doing a roll call before. I can tell the team has expanded since then. (if you look way back in the weekly challenges - back to 2011, some of our stuff is still up!)
You guys are doing such a great job and I am glad to be back.

I told my husband I was going to get back on spark and he said, "that always seems the best thing for you" vs me saying I am going to try a diet to which he whines about!

Always looking for spark buddies!

Welcome back, SAIDTHEFAE!
Wow, you've travelled a long way!
Maybe you should prioritize again..
1.My kid
2.Myself
3.Everything else

You could try to save a good 30 minutes everyday to dedicate to yourself. Find ways to organise effectively your time, so that you can actually do that without upsetting your family.

How's this team different than it used to be, if any? What was your leader tasks?
We do our best to help everyone here... We like the Roll/Call very much. Was there such a thing before?

Love,
Joanna

SAIDTHEFAE,

I'm so glad your back with the team!! Any insights you could give us from your prior years would greatly be appreciated. We are an encouraging, caring bunch of gals. I hope you find yourself at home here again. emoticon

Today is the first step to be coming a healthier you emoticon Remember To start out with a small winnable success. All of our challenges this week are physical. Usually that is not the case. We usually have a monthly fitness challenge ongoing from month to month. We have a bi-monthly and weekly that cover various topics. Your first goal is to exercise for 10 minutes each morning for 3 days in a row. Let me know on the ROLL CALL thread each day that you complete your exercise challenge should you choose to accept this challenge.

I'm looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi!
I am a former member (and leader) of this team from a few years ago. I was finishing my masters degree and got pregnant, and then got pretty inactive from Spark. My baby is now almost 2, so I am going to try to get active here again (because I need to get more active). This kid keeps me super busy, but I need to remember to take care of myself. So, here I am. I loved the challenges before- that is one thing that usually can really motivate me. Hope to get to know the active members again :)

Always looking for spark buddies!

Barbara,
emoticon I've missed you. I'm glad to hear your back in the mix. How is your son doing these days? Be careful my dear. It sounds like you might be setting yourself up for failure. Being set on 2 pounds per week is difficult to do on an ongoing basis and I don't want you to get discouraged. Stay on track and things will happen for you.

Today is the first step to be coming a healthier you emoticon Remember slow and steady wins the race emoticon emoticon Start out with a small winnable success. Like doing 5 minutes of exercise a day or drinking 8 glasses of water every day for a week.

Join our ROLL CALL thread. It has become our own support group and I would love to see you there. Consistency and leniency are the keys. Consistency in your goals and leniency with yourself when you fall off the wagon temporarily. I love you and I so want you to succeed.
I challenge you to 5 minutes of any kind of exercise for the next 3 days. Visit me on ROLL CALL each day and let me know how you did. I look forward to hearing from you tomorrow on ROLL CALL. We will help you on your journey to a new you.

Hello Dianne and Barbara,
Welcome to Weekly Challenges!
This is perhaps the most interesting sub-community of spark. Make sure to check for new challenges once in a week. I think most challenges are biweekly, and there's of course the monthly one which focuses on keeping you moving all month long! In just a few days, our Feb fitness challenge will be on. Make sure to sign up! ;) It will kickstart your journey. Don't think big; 250 minutes is both ambitious and feasible enough, but you could be less ambitious if you like.
In the meantime, try to track your food and focus on drinking the water, like other members suggested. Progress; not perfection. Just take that small step and soon enough you'll be ready to move forward to the next step; and before you know it you'll be waving us from the top of the stairs grinning and shining like no other!
Wish you both luck and courage my amazing ladies!!!
Love,
Joanna

I just love this team already. Thanks everyone. emoticon

You may have to fight a battle more than once to win it, but God wins it every time. This battle is not ours it's the Lord's.

Every day do something that will inch you closer to a better tomorrow.

Negative thoughts are the weak link. A shift in your awareness and thinking positive will change your day.

It does not matter how slowly you go so long as you do not stop.
