I'm so glad you decided to join this awesome team. We are an encouraging, caring bunch of folks. I hope you find yourself at home here. emoticon

I also live in the bay area. What city do you live in? I live in Redwood City. I wish I could run but unfortunately I'm not able. I do try to walk. I used to work out a lot and maintained my weight but unfortunately I was in a traffic accident and had to stop. Once you stop it is so difficult for me to get started again. The stress of Mom and Dad leaving can be devastating. I live one block from my Mom. It's great that you managed to stay on your own 2 feet here. Things are so expensive. Come on by the ROLL CALL thread for support. We encourage each other. I hope to hear from you often and I wish you much success.

Hi Everyone! My name is Michelle and I live in the San Francisco Bay area. I was a member on SparkPeople many years ago, and along with my mom lost a good amount of weight. Then we had a family member from out of the country come to stay with us for the summer, and he wanted to try ALL the American food. Who was I to stop him? And of course I had to join in, so I gained all the weight back, plus some. I've since lost and gained the same thirty pounds two or three more times.

Last year was a big year for me. My parents retired and moved across the country, and I decided I didn't want to go with them. I was still living with them, and relying on them for so much, and it has been a huge adjustment to be living on my own, and taking care of myself. It was a tough year, with a lot of setbacks and emotional breakdowns, but it's been almost 15 months since they moved and I'm still standing on my own two feet. Now that I've figured out how to navigate life on my own, I want to get back to making that life better for myself, and for me that means getting healthier.

I am Mom to one kitty cat, Noelle, who is 8 years young, and as annoying as she was at 8 weeks. I love to do races - 5K's, 10K's, even half marathons. But I always feel so fat and slow compared to other people, even other walkers. I'd love to see my times improve, and to actually feel confident when I go out and do a race. That's my big motivation.

I look forward to getting to know everyone!

Hi, I'm Karen I've struggled most of my life with my weight and depression. I try to manage my depression without meds, as the constant cycle of finding the right meds is tiring! I am not new to SP, but new to this team. I'm looking for that accountability. For me this has been more of s lifestyle change. I think if you are not right with your thinking, then you won't do right in your actions. That is what I am learning, at this point my life. Always looking for new ideas and always here to support.

Hi I'm Debbie and I'm trying to get back on track again. It's been a struggle and I've made my way to goal a number of times and then turned around and went right back up. I know it doesn't help to be angry at ones' self or frustrated but I find myself being exactly just that. For awhile I just wanted to give up, but that little voice inside says get back up and try again. So I'm not one to ignore "that little voice" maybe it knows something I don't, so I'm here to try again.

Hello my name is Nicole. I'm not new here but I have a fresh start and I am finally ready to commit to my health. I see a nutritionist every 6 wks now so tracking is a must at this point. I also have a trainer once a wk and mon-fri I am either walking or riding a bike. The wkends are my days where I am lazy and I admit to it.

I'm so folks you decided to join this awesome team. We are an encouraging, caring bunch of gals. I hope you find yourself at home here. emoticon

Today is the first step to becoming a healthier you emoticon Remember slow and steady wins the race emoticon emoticon Start out with a small winnable success. The monthly exercise challenge is a great place to start because you set your own goal and the challenge is to reach your goal. Any of the challenges can be joined at any time. My first challenge to you is to set up your nutrition page and track what you put into your mouth for five days. We often discover that we ingest a lot more calories than we thought. I believe your nutrition page is the single most important thing you have in your arsenal for a healthy life. If you go to high or too low you will not get the most optimal results. Let me know on the ROLL CALL thread if you accept my challenge and let us know each day if you managed to stay within your calorie range. This will get you started. If you don't stay in range, that's ok. The challenge is to track your food. Once you get used to tracking then we can work on staying within your nutritional ranges. If you have any questions please get a hold of one of us on the ROLL CALL thread. emoticon emoticon emoticon I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Hello All! I mentioned in Roll Call that I am new, and this appears to be the most motivated team out there. Wow, the more I perused the team, the more I like. You are fabulous!

I am new to SP. The last two years I have been losing weight, and I am finally close to the goal I've had for longer than I care to admit. Actually doing something about it is so much better than just wishing.

Hubby has even jumped on board, but now we have both plateaued. We need some motivation! You folks seem to have loads of motivation.

SADIE, Since you have been with SP for awhile and are looking to improve your endurance I would highly suggest you take advantage of the Monthly Fitness Challenge. You decide how many minutes of exercise you are going to complete. The goal is to make the number of minutes you pledge. Make sure your goal is doable.

LAMI, Since you are new to SP and doing so well already I'm going to challenge you to complete your nutritional tracker and track everything you put into your mouth for 3 days. Try to stay within your goal range. Staying in range is secondary to tracking. In my opinion the nutritional tracker is the single most important tool in your weight loss arsenal. If you accept this challenge please let me know on the ROLL CALL thread.

I look forward to seeing you both often on all of our challenges.

How long have you been with SparkPeople: 3 years this December

What motivates you: Feeling healthy. When I first started my journey on SP, I did it with the goal of losing weight, fitting into old clothes, looking better in pictures, etc. As the years have passed, I realized that my motivation was a stumbling block for long term success. Now, I am motivated by stamina and energy. I want to walk up three flights of stairs at work and not be huffing and puffing when I get there. I want to be able to run with my brother (considering right now I jog at a pace that he can briskly walk). I want to be strong enough to be the adventurous woman I crave to be -- rock climbing is in my future, I promise :) That, in a nutshell, is what motivates me.

How long have you been with SparkPeople: technically April 2015. in REALITY Late July 2015 (was a sporadic dabbler, then got SERIOUS!)

Marital Status: Married (just celebrated 19 years!)
Children and/or pets:None (deliberate choice) & None anymore
What motivates you: NOT having to remember to suck it in during photos! I have my health (KOW) and I should be using/pushing it!

Anything goes: What else would you like to share about you?
~I LOVE Halloween, but I currently work in retail, and glittery christmas insanity KILLED my Halloween Spirit this year! Shall go WAY crazy decorating for Christmas/Winter/Yule which I also love! (but I don't love it in October!)
~I'm a bit scared about not being able to run outside...at any moment. I really want to sub traditional Cross Country Skiing in for running...have not saved up enough to replace ancient skiis and acquire technical clothing though. Patience and layers-LOL.

Hope everyone has a spectacular November! Be Strong and Work Hard :)!

Hi, my username is not what I'm about anymore, not that I lost those few pounds, more because being healthy and happy are now my focus.

I decided to join the team after reading the 'eat your frog' thread and watched the mini video.

I have a few frogs!

I think I'm going to like this team.

first Ild like to apologize for not responding sooner. I have been on a new workout schedule and my new computer is giving me fits. You would think a new computer would be an improvement. Not!! Anyway. . .

I'm so glad the two of you decided to join this awesome team.

I usually challenge new members to track their food intake for the next 5 days but since you are both old hats at this I won't do that. I do want to remind you that Tracking is very important as we often discover that we ingest a lot more calories than we thought. I personally believe your nutrition page is the single most important thing you have in your arsenal for a healthy life. If you go to high or too low you will not get the most optimal results. Let me know on the ROLL CALL thread how things are going for you. I look forward to getting to know both of you!!! If you have any questions please get a hold of one of us on the ROLL CALL thread. emoticon emoticon emoticon I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Hi I'm Anne. I've been on Sparkpeople since 2007. Started out strong in the beginning and lost 50 pounds. Changing shifts then working two jobs I've gained it all back and can't seem to get into a routine. At 48 I want to stop starting over and just finish what I started!

I am new back to SparkPeople. Trying to navigate the system again. It has changed a bit since I was really on here last. It says I joined in 2014, however, I joined and never really did anything with it, so today is officially really my first day back. I was a member 7 years ago and lost quite a bit of weight after the birth of my daughter. 1.5 years later and back to work I went, everything has gone downhill since then. So, here I am back to the drawing board. I am excited to have the various weekly, monthly, and bi-monthly challenges!! I look forward to getting to know you guys better throughout our journey together.

When you feel like quitting ask yourself why you started!

Wow you are very athletic. I'm so glad you joined our team. I think the fitness challenge can really help you stay focused in between your 5% challenges. You might also want to post to the ROLL CALL thread. There's several of us that help keep each other accountable. I don't know how I would have lost my weight without their hep. I hope to see you there. I usually give everybody a personal challenge but you seem to have everything well in hand. You just seem to need some accountability in between your 5% challenge. We would love to help you.

Hi!

I am a 65 year old Red Cross swimming instructor and lifeguard. I live in Miami, Florida with my adult son and two blocks away from my daughter and 13 year old grandson. I joined SparkPeople 3 yrs ago, but only became active 2 yrs ago. It grew on me :). I've tried different meal plans, but the Eat to Live plan is the only one that I've been able to loose any weight with. It has lots of veggies and fruits and low on the carbs. I like it that way. My exercise routine consists of swimming 6 days a week for one hour daily. I swim a mile or 1500 meters. I have just started training for the Senior Olympics. My dream is to compete in the Nationals and beyond in my age group. Yesterday was my first training with my coach. With his help I'll get there.
I joined the 5% Spring 5% weight loss challenge and did really well. Unfortunately what I lost in that forum I gained back while waiting for my Summer 5% weight loss challenge. I figure if I do some challenges in this forum I may be able to maintain my weight inbetween challenges in the other forum. Wish me good luck! :)

Sinc he two of you are old hats maybe you can make some suggestions for threads that you would like to see. Chances are that if you need or want something then someone else feels the same way. Start out with a small winnable success. The monthly exercise challenge is a great place to start because you set your own goal and the challenge is to reach your goal. Any of the challenges can be joined at any time. Its important that you get the support needed to keep you going. The Roll Call thread is a great place to get the support that we all need. How long have you been with Sparkpeople? - This time, since June 2, 2015
Marital Status - Married
Children - 2
Pets - cat

About me - I am a registered nurse, working full time as well as completing my master's degree as a Nurse Practitioner. I am in my final year! WhoHoo!. I homeschool my children (with the help of my husband) and work occasionally at the local college. I lost 45 lbs a few years ago prior to having my second child, so I know I can do this. There have been many struggles over the last few years, but on June 2 this year, I woke up and thought ENOUGH! It was time to get myself back in shape and on track. I still have a lot on my plate, but will make this commitment.

I am a competitive person so these challenges work great for me. It is what helped me last time.

I have made some commitments to myself
- I will ride my bike to work whenever possible.

You have your hands full with all the members of your family both human and friends. Although you shouldn't be a slave to the numbers you do want to eat healthy as well as exercise.

So glad you joined our awesome team. We are a great bunch of supportive people. I hope you find your home in our team. We want you to stick with it and enjoy the challenges and other threads we have going. Everything can be joined at any time. We want you to have fun. If you need support come to the ROLL CALL thread. There is always someone there to help and encourage. emoticon

If you don't want to pay attention to the scale their other indicators that may be of encouragement. Loose clothes, smaller inches or just feeling "right" to name a few. I personally do not want to be at the optimal BMI. I have been up and down the scale so many times that if I lost to much I would look all saggy which is not appealing at all. You should set yourself individual short term goal such as 1 inch around your stomach per month for example. Some way to measure your success. Otherwise you never really know just how successful you really are and if you can't realize the success then its easy to get discouraged and lose focus. Keep in mind slow and steady wins the race. emoticon emoticon Losing weight to fast makes it more difficult to maintain later. I think you have a great attitude that being healthy and exercising is the key and everything else will just fall into place. Let us know on the ROLL CALL thread how you are doing. There are always encouraging members there. emoticon emoticon

I have family in Southern CA myself. I know exactly what you are talking about. I tend to over commit myself. It's hard for me to say "no".

So glad you joined our awesome team. We are a great bunch of supportive people. I hope you find your home in our team. Today is the first step to becoming a healthier you emoticon Remember slow and steady wins the race emoticon emoticon Start out with a small winnable success. If you have any questions please get a hold of one of us or anyone else on the ROLL CALL thread. emoticon emoticon emoticon I look forward to hearing from you soon.

You've been with the team for a bit now. You have joined an awsome and encouraging bunch. I have noticed you around the pages and I look forward to hearing about your struggles and successes. Are you logging in everything you are eating? Logging is one of the best tools you have in your arsenal of good health. We often don't realize just how many calories we put into our bodies each day. If you have any questions, comments or just want to say Hi, stop on by the ROLL CALL and get to know us. I look forward to hearing from you.

How long have you been with Sparkpeople? - This time, since April 2015.
Marital Status - Married (almost)
Children - 3
Pets - 2 dogs, fish, guinea pigs, 2 horses, and a beardie

About me - I am a high school librarian, history teacher, and softball coach. Softball is my sport of choice and how I currently get most of my exercise. I have a very difficult time saying no. I also struggle with making time for just me. My goal is to become more fit and healthy. In the process I will lose weight. But I am trying very hard to not be a slave to the numbers. It is about how I feel.

So glad you joined our awesome team. We are a great bunch of supportive people. I hope you find your home in our team. We want you to stick with it and enjoy the challenges and other threads we have going. Everything can be joined at any time. We want you to have fun.

It's great that you are working out so hard but you might want to change it up once in awhile. Your muscles actually get used to the same exercise and if you change it up it your body will get toned more quick and its good to use other muscles. Also if you speed up and slow down you burn more callyories. There is a whole circuit that can be done while working out.

If you need support come to the ROLL CALL thread. There is always someone there to help and encourage.
