I'm so glad you decided to join this awesome team. We are an encouraging, caring bunch of gals. I hope you find yourself at home here. emoticon Remember slow and steady wins the race. Start out with a small winnable goal.

HEATHER. I'm a bit concerned about your goal to lose 40 pounds in 3 months. That is awfully fast and not healthy. A good practical goal is 1-2 pounds per week. I'm afraid you may be setting yourself up for disappointment. I have lost over 100 pounds but it took me 18 months to do it. Please consider revising your goal. I'm looking forward to a long friendship and seeing you often on your journey to a new you.

DANY. I challenge you to exercise for 10 minutes a day for the next 4 days. I know you can do it. Let me know on the ROLL CALL thread if you accept my challenge. I look forward to seeing you often on our challenges.

The ROLL CALL thread is our own little support group. You can always find someone there to listen and encourage you.

Hi there friends, I'm new to this group and have been searching for an active group that I could participate in, it looks like this one has been around for a while and is pretty motivating/active!

Username: danygirl40
NAME: Danielle/Dany
Where are you from? (state or country): Originally a Philly girl but live in South Jersey
How long have you been with SparkPeople: I've been with Spark for about 6 years but started taking it serious about 3/4 years ago, fell off the wagon about a year ago and now I'm back!!!

Marital Status: Married for 12 years
Children and/or pets: I have 2 daughters (23 and 19), they are my world. A stepson (21) and stepdaughter (18)...I also have a pitbull that I call my son as well! ;)
What motivates you: I felt healthy and good for a long time, I want to get that feeling again. I want to motivate people around me.

Anything goes: I need discipline, I'm not able to do this without counting my calories and/or working out. I got really healthy when I was turning 40 and for some reason turning 43 in April has been messing with my mind. I want to feel good about my body and not worry what the scale says. It was very easy to fall into a rut and it hasn't been easy getting out of it but I'm getting there!!! I have to keep reminding myself that baby steps are better than no steps at all! Good luck friends, this is definitely a journey!! ;)

How long have you been with SparkPeople: Well .. a LONG time .. but only on and off. I pray this time I am sparked for good!

Marital Status: HAPPILY .. to the most amazing eon the planet
Children and/or pets: 2 kids, one gone (age 18), one at home (age 14). 2 pets, one cat (age 14), one dog (age 13). The house is pretty old (100+), so there are a few uninvited guests, too .. but we won't talk about that.
What motivates you: Thinking about all the things I cannot do because of my obesity; wanting to qualify for life insurance; wanting to live a long time for my husband and kids.

Anything goes: I began to struggle with my weight around age 8 and have been obese all of my adult life. At 43-years-old, I have never exhibited any of the common health challenges of most obese folks. However, when I went to the doctor in December 2013, I weighed in at my heaviest ever (407) and my blood sugar was slightly elevated, making my doctor concerned I was pre-diabetic. My numbers are back in normal range and my current goal is to reach 366 lbs by my birthday (October 7th), which will represent a loss of 10% of my high weight.

Hi Everyone,
I am Joy and I am 51. I live in Iowa, am married and have one son, one step son, and one step daughter. All grown and out on their own. My husband and I both work and like to travel when we have time for vacation. I am working on losing about 60 pounds and trying to get healthy. I am so tired of feeling tired and sick all the time. I just want to be able to enjoy doing the things I have always enjoyed in the past - hiking, and exploring caves, etc. when we travel.

I have been on Sparkpeople for a long time, but have been inactive for the last year or so. I was injured at work a couple of months ago and trying to recover has given me some extra motivation to get back to work on my health. Unfortunately it also means right now I am limited on what I can do for physical challenges. Hopefully not to much longer. :)

Looking forward to getting to know you all better!

I also love dancing. I use my Wii and do Just Dance. I love it and I get a great cardio workout. I often lose track of time when I'm doing that.

We always have 3 challenges going on at all times. I look forward to finding you there. Also come by the ROLL CALL thread. It's become our own support page. Many of us reply to everyone's post but it is not necessary. Some just pop in and out to let us know how their progressing. We would love to meet you. I hope you drop by.

Have a great weekend!!!

Hi all! just joined the team and wanted to say helloooo. :-D

I'm Nicole, look fwd to getting to know you and participate in this awesome lookin team ya got here! ;-)

Where are you from? (state or country): Tampa, FL
How long have you been with SparkPeople: ohhh gosh, off and on for prolly 8 years

Marital Status: Single
Children and/or pets: Nope neither
What motivates you: to be fit and active and get better at the activities like (races and snowboarding) i like to do

Anything else... I enjoy running... well its walk/jogging right now! But i like to get outside and enjoy the air that way... participating in 5k's mostly (done one 10k and another coming up dec).. i also love things like Zumba and fun dance/group workout types of things. Became totally addicted to Orangetheory but moved quite a distance from my nearest one and am still trying to work the 30 min drive to that location back into my schedule somehow. Besides that I just occasionally hit the elliptical and do a lot of body weight strength training with some heavy weight leg presses/arm/upper body lifting!

I'm so glad you decided to join this awesome team. We are an encouraging, caring bunch of gals. I hope you find yourself at home here. emoticon

Today is the first step to becoming a healthier you emoticon Remember slow and steady wins the race emoticon emoticon Start out with a small winnable success. My first challenge to you is to set up your nutrition page and track what you put into your mouth for two days. We often discover that we ingest a lot more calories than we thought. I believe your nutrition page is the single most important thing you have in your arsenal for a healthy life. If you go to high or too low you will not get the most optimal results. Let me know on the ROLL CALL thread if you accept my challenge and let us know each day if you managed to stay within your calorie range. This will get you started. If you don't stay in range, that's ok. The challenge is to track your food. Once you get used to tracking then we can work on staying within your nutritional ranges. If you have any questions please get a hold of one of us or anyone else on the ROLL CALL thread. emoticon emoticon emoticon I look forward to hearing from you soon.

HI Dorothy, welcome! I'm about 3 weeks away from being 49, and I also live in California :)

I've been here on Sparkpeople for about 3 weeks now, and it's great! The fitness and nutrition trackers are a huge help to me with seeing what I'm actually eating in calories, and the fitness tracker is good for helping me see how much I'm exercising.

There are a lot of neat features here, so be sure to check them out!

Hello! I'm Dorothy and I'm new to SparkPeople--what a great site! I've been ignoring my health for a long time and now I'm ready to make a change. I've got 100+ to lose, but I'm focusing on one day at a time. I'm 51 and live in California. I think a weekly challenge will be helpful, and I hope I can support others too.

Thanks!

D.

Elegua - Welcome! I like your signature - so true

VeganDoc - Welcome! This group is great at motivating - there are many stories, many tips and ideas - try the challenge I posted a day or two ago on the chit chat board about arm exercises while you watch tv. It's 10 minutes and you'll feel the burn but you'll love what it will do for you

Crystal- Welcome! I've seen you posting - you are a busy woman!

Lucy - Welcome! Great response on what motivates you!

Ashfrel - Welcome! I understand the job putting on the weight - since I started my "chair/computer" job - I have to work out daily or I'll easily gain weight. Jump in on some of the challenges - go chat and tell us what you are up to

Freed- Welcome! Congrats on the loss! 33 years! Fabulous! Jump in and tell us on the chat board how you were able to lose the weight and how you are keeping it off

Determined - Welcome! Congrats on the loss! Having babies will do that to us - believe me - all of us. Jump in and share your ideas!

Our group is great at responding and sharing - please jump in and add more ideas, tips, etc.

emoticon

Hello. I've been "in" the group for a while, but never active. I'm trying to find a way to keep motivated. I'm usually good about working out when my husband is home, and I have a buddy. BUT he deploys very frequently, and then I lose motivation and sit in my living room. I never eat junk, but portion control kills me. I need to lose 7-10 pounds, put on a bunch of muscle, and increase my running distance/increase speed. My job is stressful (and I hate it), so when I get home at the end of the day, I'm typically so angry and stressed out that I just want to sit. I like a challenge (usually), so hopefully this will be a good thing for me.

Hi there!

I'm new to the team, and I'm here because I like participating in challenges. I have at least 30lbs to drop. I'm 28, and a newlywed. Since I started my office position, I've put on ten lbs! I didn't realize how FAST I could put on the weight. Right now, I get up and work out in the morning, and take a walk during my lunch break. I hope to add a little swimming during the summer!

I'm so glad you decided to join this awesome team. We are an encouraging, caring bunch of gals. I hope you find yourself at home here. emoticon

Congratulations on losing 100 lbs. You obviously know how you just need some momentum to keep going. I suggest you read my blog "making friends with you food". Many have found it helpful. I too have lost 100 pounds. I'm not at my ideal weight either but I'm happy where I'm at. I I don't want to deal with the lose skin that comes along with weight lose.

I hope to see you on the ROLL CALL thread often. It has become out support group. Many of us come there regularly to just get involved in each other's goals and help. We help and encourage each other whenever possible. I look ford ward to seeing you soon.

If you have any questions please get a hold of one of us or anyone else on the ROLL CALL thread. emoticon emoticon emoticon I look forward to hearing from you soon.

emoticon Determined ~ Welcome aboard! As you can currently see on my signature ticker, I also weighed 220 lb. I'm slowly making my way down the scale, but am going toward the right direction. This team has helped me so much within the last few weeks that I've been here. I believe you'll think so to. Together we'll achieve our goals.

FREEDEE ~ emoticon Huge kudos to you for all the weight loss that you've accomplished & for now marching onward toward your end goal. I found that this team has a great mixture of challenge & encouragement. I love your goals. Welcome to Weekly Challenges!

I look forward to meeting both of you around the board.

Hi. I am breathing down the next of being 55 years old. I have been married for close to 33 years. I have 4 step granddaughters and one 10 year old grand-son plus one granddog. At my heaviest weight I weighed 306lbs. Though I am about 100 lbs smaller than that, I have never reached my goal weight. It would be nice to reach that goal weight, however that is not my main focus. I truly just want to make healthy choices most of the time and lead a happy, energetic life. I hope we all can help each other do that.

Hello everyone! I'm a 29 year old woman who has been married for 10 years. We have been blessed with 2 children, a 9 year old son and a 1 year old daughter. I've always been on the "chunky" side, but after giving birth to my son, I gained a lot of weight. It wasn't until after giving birth to my daughter that I weighed my heaviest...220 lbs. I was shocked that I had allowed myself to get like this. Shocked and disgusted. I've now lost 15 lbs, but I know that I have a very long road ahead of me. Can't wait to meet you all!

BRABBLE - Welcome and congrats on the loss! One thing I do is I don't use a scale - I go by clothing - when one pair of pants is loose on me, then I go to the next one below that. I just go in to the department store and try on a pair. If 8 is loose, I try on 6, etc. You have to remember how muscle weighs more so your scale will trick you on that however clothes fit differently with muscle.

You mentioned plateauing - I have noticed when I get to that - I do plyometrics (Jillians 30 day shred is great for this type of workout) - that always kick starts the weight loss for me and gets me over a hump - I'll do them every day for a few weeks

Welcome to the team and have fun - jump in and share your journey!

BRABBLE - - Welcome to our great team!!! You mentioned that you plan to lose 100# within the next year. My suggestion to you would be to set your first goal of no more than 10% of the total amount of weight you want to lose. If you set your goal for the entire amount of weight to lose, you are apt to become too overwhelmed and might be setting yourself up for failure. Never go below 1,200 calories. Too low of calories and you will be putting your body in starvation mode and are apt to gain weight. Your body will be hanging on to every calorie thinking that it won't get anymore food.

When the scale stops during your journey to a healthier lifestyle, look back at how much weight you've already lost, how much looser your clothes seem to be getting, how much better you are feeling, how much more energy you seem to be having etc.

Good luck to you!!!

Judy F emoticon

Today is the first step to becoming a healthier you emoticon Remember slow and steady wins the race. emoticon emoticon It took me almost two years to lose 100 pounds. You can lose it faster but losing it more slowly allows your body to adjust to your new weight. Also it gives you the opportunity to learn to eat properly permanently. I have gone up and down my entire life. I did things differently this time. Start out with a small winnable success. It is essential that you set up your nutrition page and track what you put into your mouth each day. We often discover that we ingest a lot more calories than we thought. I believe your nutrition page is the single most important thing you have in your arsenal for a healthy life. If you go to high or too low your caloric range you will not get the most optimal results. Try reading my blog on "making friends with your food". Many people have found it very helpful. Hi all! I have been a member of Spark for many years. Going back and forth with it over the years (and my weight!) In August of 2012, I decided enough was enough. From that time, to December of 2013, I lost 50 pounds. I need to loose over another 100 pounds. I have been bouncing the same 7-8 pounds since January and this morning gained another 2. So now the scale is creeping back up and it needs to stop!
I am sick and tired of being sick and tired. I just found this group and this is my goal now. From May 2014-May 2015 I will loose 100 pounds.
I do have a lot of stress in my life and I realize that I need to stop turning to food to make the pain go away.
So, Yea to all of us for trying and we will succeed!

emoticon Hi there! I've been on sparkpeople way back when. I don't remember my username then, but the important thing is that I'm back (while learning to navigate around here) to work on my goals of weight loss and better fitness.

I'm wife to a dear husband & we are parents to 2 sweet daughters. I'm SAHM, but had worked in the medical field before marrying & a bit after we married.

I need to lose about 80 pounds & need to gain better endurance, strength & agility. I think this team would be a great help to me -- for challenges & encouragement.

I'm looking forward to interacting with all of you.
Blessings.

Hi Tess, I relate to your problem, but in a "micro" way. I lose 6-7 pounds, then we travel and I gain most of it back, then I spend the next few weeks losing it again, then we travel and I gain, etc, etc, etc. I seem to be stuck in that pattern. This has revealed to me that I have to learn how to eat healthy when I travel (and exercise) regardless of the circumstances (a lot of my travel is to care for elderly relatives...read stressful there). So, I've added some new things to my "toolbox" and hope my next trip (this coming week) is more successful.

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the number of moments that take our breath away...and, remember "slow and steady wins the race".

Hi there! emoticon
I'm Tess, from Washington State. I've been a member of SparkPeople since 2008.
I'm also the QUEEN of Yo-Yo emoticon
I lose 30, gain 40, lose 20, gain 30, lose 40, gain 50. Two years ago I was 40 lbs lighter than I am now...or rather, than I was 15 days ago when I started following the South Beach way of eating. So now I'm 28 lbs heavier than I was two years ago.

I love challenges. They keep me motivated. I used to be in eDiets and led a group called "The Ultimate Challenge" and we had a blast with it. We would have a number of different teams, and would issue a 3 week challenge every month.

I look forward to getting to know a lot of you, and to join you in challenges to help keep myself on track!

So nice to have you join the team!! I find the challenges help me stay motivated because I feel that I have to report to the team each day. This does not work for everyone. We have 3 separate challenges running at all times covering various topics. We also have various other thread meant to help encourage each other and some to just have fun.

For motivation I find the best thread is the ROLL CALL thread. There are several of us there and our goal is to help motivate and support each other. We help each other stay true to our journey. Let us help motivate you.

Hello! I am Elizabeth. I am in several groups but like this one a lot and I like the challenges. I have been back on Spark since this past January, but back with 'a vengeance' (ha!) since April 7---my last physical that put me at a higher weight than I thought I was----not too drastic, but enough to be discouraging, especially when the weight keeps coming off slower and slower the older I get (I'm 51 and 5'2" and want to get down to 110.) I have been really going at it, bound and determined to lose 2 lbs per wk. I'm reading that might cause problems, but I am tracking my food and staying right around 1200 cal per day, and staying within all my nutrition ranges. I've been exercising like mad lately, picking up daily 5-7 mile walks with my husband who is having a prostrate cancer scare right now. I also exercise on my elliptical for 40 minutes at level 3 every day (except Sundays!) I am losing those 2 lbs per wk, fluctuating like crazy throughout the week, but the scale ultimately shows my goal. I also am starting to take measurements and am seeing a change there, too. I drink my 8 glasses of water a day, sometimes more, and am working on getting up and going to bed every day at the same hour for a total of 8 hrs of sleep (I was pretty much doing these last two all the time already.) I think I'm losing my mind----so many things to keep track of and maintain awareness on. I'm glad to find a community that is so supportive.

So nice to have you join the team!! I find the challenges help me stay motivated because I feel that I have to report to the team each day. This does not work for everyone. We have 3 separate challenges running at all times covering various topics. A new challenge starting tomorrow is about snacking. We also have various other thread meant to help encourage each other and some to just have fun.

For motivation I find the best thread is the ROLL CALL thread. There are several of us there and our goal is to help motivate and support each other. We help each other stay true to our journey.

There could be several reasons that you are not losing. Are you tracking everything that goes into your mouth? Are you staying within the ranges provided for you? If you are going below your range too often you could be starving your body which will stop you from losing. It amazes me how easily our bodies go into starvation mode. Do you exercise regularly? Depending on how you eat and your age you may need to start pumping up your metabolism. There are many other possibilities. There are some great articles here that help with that. I know for me, I need to bump up my exercise in order to start that scale to start to drop.

I hope this helps and I hope to see you on the ROLL CALL thread.

Hello. My name is Donna I have been with spark people since 2008. Stopped for a few years did other weight loss program. But then decided to try this again because it is free. I am lacking motivation, I have been tracking my food consistently for a couple of months now but I haven't lost any weight yet. If anybody has some good advice on motivation I would really appreciate it.

For motivation the ROLL CALL thread is great for that. Many of us log in each day, others once in awhile. It has become our support group on everything from soup to nuts. Most talk to every post but some do not and it is not necessary. I hope to see you there. We would love to help.

Greetings,
I'm new here since yesterday and am happy to find this group. I will be 70 in September and I'm in great health and want to keep it that way. I've been with a fitness trainer on and off since my 50 and for the past 5 years have not been able to shed these irritating 20 pounds. Well, with a determination and accountability thru spark people I'm hoping they leave for good. Don't know if this is TMI for an intro....Regards

emoticon emoticon !! To both new members!!

I can soo relate to the eating at night! I used to have that problem too. It wasn't the easiest thing to overcome, but with time and patience, you can do it!!

Today is the first step to becoming a healthier you emoticon Remember slow and steady wins the race emoticon emoticon Start out with a small winnable success. I'm a night eater also. I am so proud of you for quitting cold turkey. Doing it for two nights in a row is emoticon . I know you can make day 3. I have not been able to do it. I have had to use other methods to allow myself to eat at night. I think it's because I don't sleep well at night. I have a condition that makes me want to be up at night and sleep during the day. But this is about you. If you made it twice you can make it longer. Come on by the ROLL CALL thread and let us know how your doing! emoticon . emoticon emoticon emoticon I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Hi, my name is Rachel. I have been with spark since 2006. I have had good years at losing except last year was stressful and I gained. I liked that you all have challenges and I sure do need them. I want to get fit again. I was almost to my goal and now I am so far from it. I eat at night so I have challenged myself not to eat after 7 . This will be night 3 for me.
I am going to be 40 this year at the end of May and I would really like to like what I see in the mirror as conceited ad it sounds.
I am a mom of three and between kids and a husband it is very hard to eat right lol
I hope this team will be a right fit for me! 😊

Hi everyone! My name is Ashley and I'm back on sparkpeople after a very long hiatus. I have been through a lot in the past year and I really need to get back in shape. I have been having a really rough time staying on the wagon...and am hoping that I can find some good support and someone to help hold me accountable :)

Have a goodnight!

xx
