My name is Linda and I live in northern Montana in a small town called Havre (pronounced Have Err-mispronounced Harv Ee quite often). I have had the book for ages. Picked it up at a thrift store or rummage sale and just started it last night. Am really excited to read through it and maybe even try to set up a happiness project in my town-through community education maybe? I will read through it and do some research on the website and then decide but it really excited me last night while I was reading it. Will have to think of some serious goals but it has come at a terrific time for me. I am doing well in my SP endeavors with weight and fitness but really falling down in the decluttering and hoarding in my life and the feeling of 'happiness'. I'm thrilled that SP has a team for this book. Who would have thunk it??? I just checked on a whim and here you are!

Happy New Year,

I am so happy to have found this team. I joined SP many years ago but have not been able to feel connected. I purchased the Happiness Project many years ago but have not found the time to read and implement the action items into my life. Joining this group will help me connect with SP through an action that I love, reading. Reading and introducing new actions into my life will help me on my path to live a healthy and happy life. I will post a picture sometime this week. To the group leader thanks for starting this group. To the other members thanks for joining this group and bring you energy so we will all become successful with our weight loss journey.

Gubbinal, I love your profile image. And I turn 60 in less than a month, so the pursuit of "happy ageing" seems like a fine idea to me.
Anyhow, I'm here to introduce myself. My "Status" today said I "need to cultivate better coping skills." So I went to hot yoga tonight, which helps me fantastically, and now I'm joining this team. I bought the little blue "Happiness Project" one-sentence-a-day journal without ever having heard of the book, and it's really fun.
I'm a teacher, so, not anywhere the 1%, but I'm also reading a lot about the Quaker approach to things, and it seems so wise and sane. And serenity-generating. And planet-saving..
Okay, enough babble, I have to go to bed! I guess I better get that book, huh. Is it on Amazon?
Cheers to everyone!
Maggie

Hello. I just started reading this book. I spent much of 2014 reflecting on my level of unhappiness and now I want to try to do something about it. My issues include ageing, a high level of frustration with other people, super-sensitivity, the illness and death of friends, financial fragility. But I need to recast my life; I need to learn how to be a happy old lady instead of the grumpy old lady==if only for my own health.

But I have now read just over 200 pages and I realize that she is a very privileged member of the 1%. Sure, she may have some good things to tell us, but she does not tell us how to reframe happiness with unpaid bills and mounting credit card debt.

HI Everyone,

I'm Jonnie. I live in S.W. Michigan where the snow has finally melted. I have taught college French and Spanish for 46 years. I'll retire once I figure out why I should; I have evolved to teaching completely online and have the freedom to do pretty much what I like. I have two wonderful children who are both lawyers in the DC area (now I know why they were so argumentative as children--they were practicing :) My son is a husband and father to my two grand kids; my daughter is still gorgeously single. As soon as the school term ends, I'm off to visit them. But I take off traveling anytime the spirit hits me during the year. Visiting new cultures of other countries is one of my passions, and I love taking these trips with a wonderful man who is the love of my life.

As a big fan of Oprah's Super Soul Sunday, I have become aware of the writings of numerous spiritual teachers (compliments of my local library), and I have now a burning desire to become more spiritually centered. I find that just being more aware of the innate power that is in me diminishes the cares of the world, and makes my entire life sweeter. I have always been blessed with a happy, positive disposition, and now I'm even more enthusiastic about life, knowing it is always perfect (even if, at the moment, I cannot really see its perfection). I was introduced to The Happiness Project on Oprah's show, and was delighted when Magnolia made me aware of this SP team.

I'm looking forward to enjoying joining your discussions that will allow me to become more aware of my inner joy.

Welcome, CUTENHEALTHY and KATHY_NATURELVR!

KATHY_NATURELVR you sure have a lot going on! One of the January exercises for the Happiness Project is to get more sleep....that one will be tough for you but sounds like you want to do that. Your days sound pretty busy!

Hi everyone! I'm a 41-year-old mom of two (nearly 21-year-old and nearly 4-year-old) and I've been a member of Sparkpeople since 2006. During this time I've had many ups and down, pregnancies (2 total, 1 successful [yay!]), job changes, etc. I've been at my all time low and high weights during this time. Currently, I'm at an all time high and am miserable! I've been struggling the last year or more to get back on track but life is so hectic that I'm completely failing at weight loss.

After I had my soon-to-be 4-year-old (March 2nd), I dropped down to nearly where I wanted to be. After I quit nursing her, I got a promotion and the weight gradually started going in the opposite direction. My husband has been unemployed for the last year and a half, which, while it was nice to have my toddler home with daddy, it's been a struggle financially.

I feel like I'm the ONLY one in my household getting ANYTHING done. My husband, God love him, has to be TOLD about everything that needs to be done at home and he's there ALL DAY. So I'm working all day, then I have to go home and manage my house (my 21-year-old daughter lives on her own). And I manage the finances, which is an extreme struggle...it's all too much sometimes. It's impossible to tell my husband to just "grow up" (which I want to SCREAM sometimes), who suffers from dysthymia (a mild chronic depression)...

So it's the new year and I'm trying again to recommit myself to the program. I ate well all last week but didn't drop a single ounce and got frustrated so this weekend I was back to the same-ol' same-ol'. I haven't been exercising because I don't sleep well (we co-sleep with our toddler, but that isn't so much of the issue, the issue is that because my husband doesn't work, we're all up LATE and I have to get up early for work). I've just been struggling to get life back on track but it feels impossible sometimes when I have an adult teenager (my husband) at home.

Anyway, that's my life in a nutshell...sorry for the rant...guess I need a real support group! emoticon

Kathy

Take Care,
Kathy

Welcome!

I'm so happy to have BWCAGRL and MEDDYPEDDY on this team! You are both so active and supportive on SparkPeople....very inspiring and encouraging!!

I'm a great starter and not so great completer too...so it's good to have each other to motivate us to keep this up for the whole year!

Let the Happiness Project begin!

Hi - I had in mind to make 2014 a year where I would try to live in the present and use the tools that was given in a book about happiness... and joining this team seems to be a good way to keep up that good work.

I am swedish, have been with spark people since 2009. I work with the business edition at a local newspaper and after passing 60 years of age I have come to the conclusion that happiness is reached by living in the present, being and accepting yourself and engage in matters that matter... I am grateful to Magnolia who started this group and will try to contribute. I am a little scared too since I know myself to be a great starter but not so good in pursueing - so I am happy for the opportunity to share and support. emoticon

Hello!

I read most of the book a couple years ago but Id like to go through the months along with the book starting in January. Id love to have some Spark pals to do it at the same time.

The New Year always makes me optimistic about making changes and having a group will help us keep motivated to work on it throughout the year. Lets all get the book and be ready to reflect and learn starting in January 2014!

If you don't like the road you're walking, start paving another one!
