I have been coughing and given antibiotics. My GP said it was
mostly caused by something happening in my stomach, so he
upped my Nexium from 20 mg to 40 mg just one before dinner.
I used to always take it in the morning before food. The antibiotics
are finished but I am still coughing. I have also suffered with
asthma and bronchitis all my life. Have had both hiatal hernia and
HPylori so I am worried now after reading about pre cancer.Phew!
Fatty foods, bananas are two foods that I have noticed give me
heartburn, so I try to avoid these. I just finished antibiotics on Wed.
Maybe it is time for another endoscopy. emoticon

Good news that the irritation is only on the lower end.
At this time I take Nexium 40mg AM and before dinner, then Zantac 360mg at bed time. So 2 Prilosec daily is not too bad.

I am doing some research on that new magnetic bracelet "Linx", which fits just above the stomach around the esophagus, it reinforces the valve to stay closed to anything coming up, but does open to let you swallow normally.
It could solve my problem, my only issue is that you can no longer have MRI's and due to some other conditions I have I need MRI's for follow up. so I am at a standoff for now. Google it, it might work for you too.

Back from my Endoscoping. I had increased my prilosec (omeprazole 20 mg) which had been one once a day up to one every twelve hours; Doctor had agreed to this. Apparently this was a smart move, because the Gastroenterologist has upped it further to 40 mg twice a day. The top part of my esophogus is doing great, irritated but not like the bottom part.

I understand completely, I have also been diagnosed with COPD GERD & Barretts. COPD under control with a CPAP machine and oxygen, GERD partially undercontol - at least the acid, the non acid is still refluxing, and we are watching the Barretts. Previous smoker also.
Just keep pushing to get help with all the issues, you will have to see several different professionals, ask lot of questions, do some research Spark people has some great articles to get you started. Best of Luck to you both.

Dear Fellow GERD sufferers,
A good 30 years ago my spouse and I were told we had Hiatal Hernias, to elevate the head of our bed 4-6 inches and to take Gaviscon prior to meals and at bed time. We were smokers back then and for the most part we followed the Docs orders. Six years ago we quit smoking. Since then we have been diagnosed with Barrett's Esophagus or precancer of the esophagus as one doctor called it from all the acid burns and scaring.
A few weeks ago I was given the diagnosis of COPD early stages due to my Asthma. It seems I have had a mild to moderate on going asthma attack for most of the past 9 months. Apparently GERD and COPD feed off of each other. One increases the flow of mucus production and that increases the acid production in the stomach. A vicious cycle. One must get them both under control to slow the cycle.
