Hi, I am Gloria and my first upper G.I. was when I was four years old. I am now in my late 40s so I have had this problem for a long time. It was getting worse and worse and my gastro was worried about esophageal cancer, pneumonia and pulmonary fibrosis. It was messing with my voice and I was on inhalers for reflux induced asthma. I would wake up in the night choking on reflux. On my last upper G.I. the radiologist accused me of eating/drinking before it but it had been 18 hours since I had eaten or drank anything. What he was seeing was the barium up in my throat. So in November 2012 I had Nissen Fundoplication surgery. It is not an easy procedure to go through. It is major surgery and it takes a long time to heal. So far I am doing very well with it and have not had reflux. But a host of other issues come along with this surgery and now I am dealing with those things.
