I amm also looking for answers to alleviate GERD symptoms.
I am trying everything right now with no results.
Quit taking omeprazole after 6 weeks of not working.
I am hoping a low carb diet is going to help.
Right now I am trying licorice tea,aloe vera,cider vinegar 2nd day,kombucha,
probiotics,3 small meals a day and more....
This is scary and has given me a lot of anxiety.
Have you ever tried Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar? I have had some bouts of GERD and just as the crisis started I did a course of the vinegar in water, three times daily in addition to avoiding the irritant foods! It worked, but that was AFTER experiencing several crises and using medication for extended periods!
All the best, and try to reduce the fear which brings on stress which aggravates the problem.
My problem started when I had a period of stress in my life.

Hang in there! Acid reflux scares me to death nearly every time I have it but only because the hypochondriac in me thinks its something else! The reflux gives me anxiety and the anxiety makes the reflux worse. Its a vicious circle. I only take OTC Prilosec and watch my diet. I've started having separate dinners because what I can have and what my family wants are always two different things. Good luck though. SparkPeople is a great place for support.
Hi, I'm losing the battle against GERD. Doc tells me I have to get it under control because I also have Barrett's which could lead to esophageal cancer. That scares me!!! I know that is the fastest killing cancer there is. We lost a friend to it two years ago. He didn't even have symptoms.
Anyway, I'm really interested in finding out what has worked best for others.
And, how do you get your spouse to understand and help you instead of putting every fatty/acid food that exists in front of you?
Thanks for any suggestions. I'm really frightened and just don't know what to do! I'm on Nexium and now Zantac also.
