Hi all, I am really glad I found this forum. I like the Sparkpeople recipe site and happen to find this forum as a result. My acid reflux started almost a year ago and its been miserable ever since. I had my stomach scoped which revealed "moderate" damage to my lower esophagus and stomach. Unfortunately, none of the medications have worked good and I've tried at least 5 diferent kinds so far. When this all started I weighed 297 pounds, smoked a couple of packs a day, drank coffee a lot, drank JD and coke often, and ate whatever. Now my weight is under 220 lbs, I gave up coffee (even the acid free stuff), still smoke but not as much, all but gave up my JD, no soda and eat mostly really boring foods. Things still aren't great. If I walk across the road to get the mail, I'll have an attack, same thing going up or down the basement steps. It starts with burping, then my mouth waters, then the chest pains start, pain in my upper back, neck and shoulders. I've recently had a transmiter inserted into my lower esophagus and had to record what pains I had for 2 days. I guess a normal persons average acid level is 14.5 and mine was over 19. Tomorrow I go in for a 3 hour stress test. Other than these minor upsets, life is good. I hope to learn from all of you and look forward to reading everything I can.
