Hi. I'm relatively new to SP. I came to this site when it was introduced to me in a Nutrition and Wellness class I was taking. Once I got a look at this site it was easy to jump on and leave myfitnesspal behind. This site is much more informative and mature as well. I was caught off guard by the number of women at SP. I love women but I don't want my friends list to look like I have a harem. I walk/ run 5 miles a day. Sometimes I bike. I use a Total Gym 1700 and free weights 3 days a week for a combined time of 45 min. to an hour. I use fitbit http://www.fitbit.com/user/28XPNT and mapmyfitness apps. I'm 56 years old, married and a SAHD. I am also an x 350 pound guy.

Futbolref, I thought the same for a while.

New to the team as well. Hoping to find some like minded same sex sparkers over here for support and ideas on a successful journey in maintenance. All together I have lost 50 pounds and want to keep it off forever. I take my diet, health, exercise, and SP very seriously and want to continue until the good Lord tells me to stop.

I'm from central VA and have tried in the past on another group to get local meet and greet events together. Although it has worked to some extent they are all female events except for me. Some would consider themselves lucky others not so much.

If there is interest and enough locals maybe we can combine the events and make them bigger and better.

Power in numbers......

Glad to see that there are some guys on Sparkpeople. I was beginning to think that I was alone... New to the team. Back on Sparkpeople after a year or so absence. It helped me get my diet under control and lose 15 pounds. Total weight loss is 30 pounds. I'm using it now to help me make my fitness goals and not use the excuse of exercise to eat a bunch of junk.

Greetings all, just found this team and relatively new to SP. I'm 64 and retired, Moved to SC from PA to escape the winters. I'm type two diabetic that needs to loose about 50 lbs to reduce or hopefully eliminate the need for insulin. Live in an active adult community, love playing golf, tennis and pickleball. Looking forward to making new friends and having your support as I take back control of my life.

Discovered your team tonight while exploring the site. I have been on Spark People for awhile, but only sporadically and with limited commitment. I'm hoping to reverse that trend!

Gene, under the 'My Trackers" pulldown, there's a button for "my Weight", which includes several other trackable data sources. One of the 'others' is a 3-part Fit Test--push-ups, crunches, and stair-steps. If you enter data there, it will be tracked, graphed and reported for you. Have fun with this : )

Thanks Doug. I'll keep an eye out for the fitness test. I usually do the fitness test program on the elliptical or stationary bike just about every time but record the results once a week with my other measurements. Interestingly, my fitness level is very good on the elliptical but only average on the stationary bike. I use the elliptical a lot more so I guess the body really adjusts to what we do routinely which means I need to mix up my routine a little more.

Yea Green -- there's a fitness assessment test here on Spark. I ought to have time for it today. I'll leave the link here when I find it. Did it once before and was surprised at how poorly I did on core strength. Now, with 6 months since shoulder injury and much diminished use, I expect upper body strength will be down. Maybe I should post the results on my profile page.... hmmm

Thanks Run4food. Maybe knowing I am capable of taking the weight off is part of the problem. I have a couple of slips and think "I'll be able to take off the extra weight by working a little harder" and before I know it I'm almost back to square one. The funny thing about running is that I used to think it was not for me and avoided it like the plague but now I enjoy it and find ways to create new challenges for myself.

Glad I discovered this group. I'm 52 and I've been on SP for over 3 years and on my third weight loss "cycle". I started SP to get healthy before I turned 50 and it worked out great. However, twice now I've reached my goal, held steady for a few months and then fell off the wagon for a few months - putting almost all the weight back on. Each time I've learned a little something different about myself and I'm confident I can maintain my healthy lifestyle this time around - third time's the charm ... right?

Hi crew, just a brief introduction. I'm a 56 year old husband, a father and now grandfather. I'm a worker, a team member and a manager. I have reasonably good health (although still rehabbing from a 2/27/12 knee surgery), work I enjoy, a family that tolerates me even on my bad days and friends who hang with me - even though they know all about me!

In January I tore knee (again)and all it was painfully obvious that I needed to release some of the 254 pounds I was carrying on my 5' 10" body. My family Doctor actually suggested surgery since I have been steady gaining wieght for the last 20 years. After little success on my own, I joined Spark People on March 3 at 250 and started following the Spark Diet on the 4th.

Hi guys, My name is Rod, I joined Sparkpeople about a year ago tried it for a couple of weeks but just kind of pooped out. I'm back now and trying to make a little progress in my daily life rather than conquering everything at once. At this moment I'm concentrating on tracking my food and getting at least a small walk in daily.

Hello everyone. Obviously I am new to this forum or else I would not be posting here. I signed up on Sparkpeople in 2010 but did not do much with the site except track my eating habits. Then kind of stopped using it and as of October got beck on track with monitoring my food and exercising regularly. So I am now exploring different areas trying to use all the tools available.

I'm new here, new to Spark and new to my 50s. Business owner, husband, father of two amazing teens. My wife of 20 years has just joined Spark too.

Looking forward to learning, participating, blogging, interacting. Wondering just what percentage of overall spark members are female. Instinctive guess: 80%, and that could be low.

HI everyone. Been a Spark member for a couple of years and do my best to stay in shape. Massive heart attack and two TIA's when I was 50 was the impetus for this lifestyle change. Now turning 56 with a couple of setbacks, still going strong. Currently walking 5 miles a day with an occasional jog. Time balancing is my biggest challenge. There should be more than 24 hours in a day. This just is not fair. emoticon

Hey guys: first post as I am trying to get back to my exercise routine. Lost over 60 lbs about 8 yrs ago and kept it off until last year. Have gained at least 20 lbs + back in about a year and can't seem to find my way back. Hoping to get more dedicated to SP by tracking what I eat and find different ways to exercise. Looking forward to sharing our fitness journey together.
