I am from Phoenix, AZ. (born in Indiana, but never lived there) moved to Las Vegas Nevada when I was 19 and lived there until 2006, when I moved to CA. I have just recently moved to Santa Barbara. I will always call Las Vegas home, that is where my family is.

I'm writing from Abruzzo (2 hours from Rome) in Italy. I've been here for almost 10 years now. I was born in Chicago Illinois and lived there until I was 10 years old and then we moved to Pittsburgh Pennsylvania where I lived until 10 years ago.
It is nice to know where everybody is from and to learn something about the different lifestyles everyone has lived.

I am from rural west Tennessee, about 8 miles from the Mighty Mississippi River. I'm about 40 miles north of Memphis. After high school, I lived in Memphis for several years, then came home. Back to Memphis to be closer to work and then to Poplar Bluff, Missouri for 8 years. Now I'm back home in rural west Tennessee again ---a few miles from my childhood home.

We have indoor plumbing and use real toilet paper. LOL. I get so frustrated when I travel to Knoxville to visit my daughter and stop somewhere along the way. The souvenirs make us look like backwards hillbillies. I'm not saying they don't exist. But I don't know of anyone who lives that way! LOL I certainly don't.

I can't say that I love this area, but I love the people. All of my family is here (except my daughter). I know all of my neighbors--and not just the ones next door. I'm part of this community and chances are I'll stay here. "I was born in a small town and I live in a small town. Probably die in a small town. That's probably where they'll bury me": John Cougar Mellancamp's song "Small Town" It's not about what a place has to offer for entertainment and convenience. It's the people.

And that's my mental health journaling for the day! Ha

I was born in Montana and lived in Great Falls and Missoula-two of the larger towns for elementary school, then a very small town outside Great Falls for high school. Then lived in Sun Valley, Idaho and Rock Springs, Wyoming and Las Vegas, Nevada and Hollywood Beach, California and Boise, Idaho. Then joined the Army and went to Basic Training at Ft McMuffin, Alabama-reminded me soooo much of "Biloxi Blues" where Matthew Broderick says, "Oh, I can't stay here. It's too hot. This is like Africa hot." Then I was in Alexandria, VA-a burb of Washington DC and had the best tourist time of my life seeing all the national monuments and Smithsonian museums. Then I went to Fatteville, North Carolina for 3 years at Ft Braggwhaddadragg. Heat and humidity are not my friend. I'd rather have this 20 below weather than that super-saturated air and 100% humidity!! Then back to Montana-this time to the capitol city of Helena and then to Havre to work for the railroad and then transferred to Chicago with them. Was there in Chicagoland for 7 years and then to an outdoor ministry (Church Camp/Retreat Center) in Oregon, IL for a year before returning to Montana. I traveled a lot for work with the railroad. Spent 2 weeks in Olathe, KS attending railroad school at Overland Park, KS in a cycle of work in Havre for 6 weeks, school in Kansas for 2 weeks for over 2 years to get my journeyman locomotive electrician credentials. Started with the railroad on track maintenance for 2 summers so traveled in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa and Nebraska. I thought Omaha was a beautiful place too, Stacy...has a great zoo!! I'd like to spend some time in the New England states, Maine especially and New York of course. I'd also like to do a Mississippi Steamboat Cruise. I'd like to find a winter place in New Mexico and spend more time in the desert SW. I loved the Petrified Forest and drove Route 66 from LA to Chicago a few years ago. It's a great ride. Lots to see and places to stop and visit. New England in the fall and Mardi Gras in New Orleans. I'd like to drive from Vancouver to San Diego on PCH 1. And someday I want to see Scotland and Machu Pichu.

I was born, raised and never left(unfortunately)Connecticut. You know New England, where if you don't like the weather wait 2 minutes, it will change. When I was a teenager and into my 30's I always wanted to live in Canada. Don't remember why. Probably because of a Republican President. Now I just want to go where it is warm year round.

I love SparkPeople

Hi I'am one of those blasted Canadians who keep sending Arctic air down to you folks in the USA. Sorry about that, wish I could get it to go away. Hopefully spring is just around the corner. I'am from Windsor, Ontario, right on the border with the USA, at Detroit.
Before this I lived most of my life in Guelph, On, which is North of London, and west of Toronto, if you happen to know where they are.
This is great, getting to know people from all parts of the globe. What fun.
Here's to all of us, getting our walking shoes on and getting outdoors.

Donna

Linda, Linda - Today I'm clicking my red sparkling shoes that used to belong to the Wicked Witch of the East or West, you know, the one Dorothy killed. But I'm originally from NYC and then from NJ (now incredibly famous for the GWB Fort Lee traffic jam and I wish they'd give it a rest). And then from Omaha, NE, which is my favorite place in the whole world. Go figure. And for only the last 30 years from Louisburg in the middle of nowhere eastern Kansas about 50 miles from Kansas City.

Whew.

I'd rather be from San Diego...

Really I know where most of you are from because I read the spark pages-St Eliz in St Cloud and Stacy in the heartland of KS...clicking her red shoes, Sassy and Miranda-I think Miranda is right in London and Sassy to the West of it? And Jackie in New Zealand where I've always wanted to go since 6th grade-one of my teachers was from there. I am in beautiful downtown Havre (she says tongue-in-cheek) Montana-40 miles from the Canadian border into Alberta!
