Hi everyone!

I have been doing Weight Watchers for about 1 year now and have lost around 40lbs. I still have about 23lbs to go before I reached a healthy BMI so I'm keeping going. I joined SparkPeople once I realised that WW has me eating a pretty low number of calories, whereas I would prefer to eat more and lose more slowly!

I live with my boyfriend in Paris, France and I work part-time for a non-profit at the moment. I have one big short-term goal of fitting into my bridesmaid dress (size 12 UK, which is a size 10 US) by February 28!! At the moment I am still firmly a size 12 US… :S

I like to run and do Jillian Michaels workouts for fitness :)

Finally I am exploring the forums and thought an intro. might be in order...
Unfortunately after a very hopeful beginning I have actually not really lost anything weight-wise in the last month, but the belt does do up one notch tighter! At least it is slightly easier to make myself get out of the house to go for a walk. Keeping my PC on the kitchen bench forces me to stand while using it = good for activity levels. Bit by bit I hope to see more progress in the right direction as the weeks go on. emoticon

Keeping my thoughts on whatever is good and lovely makes life more fun!

Hi I too am on my 5th or so attempt on SP to lose weight. I have RA which left me unable to really walk more than a few feet from Feb. - Sept. now I'm on some meds and slowly starting to get active again.. at least I can walk without pain! But I gained 30 lbs in that timeframe and was already very overweight so I'm now looking at losing 100+ lbs.. it is going to be a slow hard journey.. I'm having trouble getting started and entering my food everyday.. what I have done is not had refined sugar for 3 weeks and no pizza for 1.. I realized I am not a person who can deal with moderation.. its all or nothing so I'm doing an elimination diet... sounds harsh but it is actually easier than me trying to eat just the right amount of something bad.....

Hi all, I'm Laura from the UK. I used spark people in a past life to lose 30lb for my wedding and kept it off for over a year until I got pregnant with my son. I gained 50lb during my pregnancy and have managed to lose it over the last 2 years. Hi!

I joined two days ago. I'm 62 and I had no problems with my weight until about 40. Since then, my weight has gone up pretty high two times. I'm aiming to turn things around this time before it gets out of hand.

I'm Rachel.

I'm 22 and I've been on SparkPeople (and similar weight loss sites) more times than I can actually say. The first time I lost 14 pounds, which I gained back in my last year of high school. School food isn't supposed to be good, is it? It was.

I live with my fiancé and our cat. I work in a bakery/deli/caterer, which is sometimes a problem, especially since the cookies we make usually weigh 1/3 of a pound. Yikes. However, my job also keeps me standing and walking most of the day (I usually get 10,000-12,000 steps on my pedometer).

I'm 5'2" so I'm hoping to eventually get to around 120-125 pounds, but for now, my goal is to lose 10% of my current weight.

Nice to meet everyone.

Hi, I am Kat.
I am looking to lose around 20 pounds. Similar to shawnasparkles, I am looking more to get in shape. I am only looking to go from around 135 to 115, or stay 135 but have muscle instead of fat. I am only 5'1 with a petite frame. The weights are estimates or based off of when I was weight months ago. I do not have a scale. (I know a 20 something without a scale= scary) As soon as I get a scale, I will update information and create a ticker.
I am hoping getting in shape will make me feel better about myself, as well as help with some issues I have. Again similar to shawnasparkles, I have sleep issues. I have had them on and off since I was a kid. It corresponds to depression I have had on and off since I was a kid. I have also had self esteem issues.

Shawna, in regards to antidepressants, the commercials list the side affects to cover their butts. Not everyone reacts the same way, and that is a horrible truth. I had been put on many anti-depressants, sleep-aids, and more when I was a kid (haven't been on anything since I was 16). None of them worked for me, but I know people who it has helped. I do not like to take medication, but that's because my brain chemistry is wonky and most meds do not work how they are supposed to. Take Trazadone the sleeping pill as an example... absolutely no affect on me. Another example is penicillin. We list me as allergic to penicillin. When I was tested to see if I was allergic as a baby, I had a reaction, but it was not the typical allergic reaction. It was some funky reaction (I do not know all the details). So we say I am allergic to it to be safe.
You have to be careful about medications, but they do have the possibility of helping. Now I am not telling you to take them because I will not tell you what to do. You know your body best. I am just saying caution is good, but there is the possibility they can help.
If it wasn't for my wonky brain chemistry, if I was in your position and I had a relative bf or best friend that lived really close, I would start the medicine but have a buddy. Someone I can tell about the medicine and they can help watch for any changes. The buddy might be able to notice something I wouldn't. This way if anything adverse happens there are two people looking for it and can help stop it before it gets worse. Again, this is just a thought not anything you actually have to follow.
For my problems with depression, my medicine is people. Spending time with friends, and doing something.
For my problems with sleep, I am still figuring that out. I am hoping regular exercise will help with my sleep problems.

Hello. I love you, let me jump in your game.

I would like to lose somewhere between 15-20 pounds, but more importantly I want to get in shape. No one, I mean no one, in my life knows what low self esteem I have about my body. I don't talk to anyone else about it but myself and I'm sick of it. As Pink would say "Don't let me get me". I know that confidence in itself is attractive, so I do my best to hold up that façade.

I've had the intentions of getting in shape for a very long time now. I don't believe in dieting, for myself anyway. I am a vegetarian (except occasional seafood), but I have been since I was 13 and that choice isn't about weight. I do believe in eating as natural as possible and that is what I strive to do even though I screw up.

Anyway, I have recently come to the realization about a few things that I think are standing in my way of getting to where I want to be and I'm hoping that facing them will be key in overcoming this constant battle in becoming my true healthy self.

#1) I drink too much. I don't drink every day, or every other day, sometimes a week goes by. Sometimes I only have one drink. Then sometimes I am completely hung over because the night before I downed an entire bottle of wine or a bunch of beer or drinks. This is not just about calories. I need to cut it out while it's still something I have control over.

#2) I need to sleep more. I am an insomniac. My husband has always told me I should go to the doctor but I'm weird about taking meds. I've had plenty of doctors try to put me on meds for anxiety but I end up not taking them because I'm paranoid (especially with all these commercials for antidepressants and stuff siting "thoughts of suicide" as a possible side affect. WTF?). So I need to start meditating or find ways to relax my mind at night so that I get adequate sleep.

#3) I need to face that it's not going to be easy. If it was, I would've reached my goal by now. It's not a destination, it's a work in progress. I keep making all of these "by" dates. For instance it was "By Sept I'm going to lose at least 12 lbs". That came and went and then it became "By Halloween I'm going to lose enough weight to look really cute in a costume" so on and so forth. I've got to pursue everyday, for the present, not for some date in the future.

So that's it in a nutshell. A rather LARGE nutshell obviously. I'm on my 3rd cup of coffee and rambling. Sorry!

Hi, I'm 5'3" and 160. I'd like to lose 30 pounds. I have arthritis in my knees and feels like my hips sometimes. I start a program not realizing I should be going for low impact, so my knees are complaining a lot right now. I have a horrible sweet tooth.

Hi! I'm ciera! I am 24, a newly wed, and a mother. Life has been pretty crazy lately with a new job, new house, new name, and coaching 18 little girls on my off days. I seem to have lost myself somewhere amidst the commotion! I am looking to lose around 40 lbs. and could def use some support and ideas on ways to do this! :)

Hello. I have no idea if I'm posting correctly. I'm doing this on my phone as I probably normally always will. I tried another community but I couldn't access it on my phone so it didn't work for me. My quiet time and thinking time is often in bed. On the computer in my office I get sidetracked from my work with logging into a healthy support website or visa versa so it just doesn't work for me. I'm married with two children. I'm very skeptical about sharing info publicly on the internet so I tend to be vague. But I'll do my best to be specific enough to make it count. :-). My biggest challenge is late nights after work. I work til 10pm. The effort to unwind and relax is ruining my often great day of food. I'm so frustrated!!

Hello. Jan. of 2011 I stepped on a scale and saw 274 lbs. Cringed when I saw the number and made some changes and was down to 230 by Sept. of 2012. I am now stuck and need to find a way to get back on track to my goal. I am here for accountability to myself on what I am eating and how active I have not been. I am hoping through using a journal and the tools this community offers I can reach my goal.

One day at a time, One step at time. Those days and steps add up and before you know it you have reached your goal.

hello everyone,
I am trying to lose weight so that my husband and I can finally have a baby. I lost 80 lbs before we got married 2 years ago but I seem to be stuck cant do any more I am 280lbs and doctors said that I should get down to 200lbs but my weight is not coming off. that is why I joined hope that I can stick to it. hope you all can help me stay motivated.

Flexitarian means that I eat a primarily vegetarian diet most days of the week, and an omnivorous diet only a couple of days. I can't be fully vegetarian because of a health condition, but this is as close as I can get!

Well, I guess I should introduce myself!
My name is Jacque, and I am married with a 6 mo old baby boy.
I have been struggling with my weight since I started living on my own, and since coming here I realized I really had NO idea how to eat healthily.

I started Spark in 2011. I'm down 30lbs from my start of 237, and during that time have had a healthy baby boy, and have gotten a pretty good handle on my emotional eating. My goal is to be HEALTHY, not just skinny.

Hi I am Traci. I have two older boys one is 19 and the other is 17 and a senior. I work full time and have problems keeping my eating in check. I also enjoy alcohol which doesn't help my weight any. So no drinking alcohol and drinking lots of water is my first goal!

Hi! My name is Robin and I first joined SP in 2008...then again in 2011. I did very well both times I worked at it, but would get tired of all the weighing, measuring food, keeping track of everything, etc. and would quit.

Here is a bit about me!

I am a stay at home mom of 3. I homeschool. I have 3 dogs, 2 chi's and a pitty. I have been overweight most of my life and have struggled with losing. I have tried many diets and always seem to fail.

I began on sparkpeople in 2008. I would make an appearance for a month or 2 then quite and come back a year later...This is my fifth or so time...I have now been steady on here for about 6 months and am doing alot better then ever!

I started a diet called The Belly Fat Cure by Jorge Cruise. I started at my highest weight ever 6 months ago, at 380 lbs. I am now 70lbs lighter at 309.4! I am loving this lifestyle change and am looking forward to keeping going!
