Hi all! I left and came back to give the team points! After upping my BP medication, my doctor told me to do all I can this month to lose weight on my own, so I've pulled out all the stops, using green tea & lemon, the South Beach diet Phase 1, a couple leptin supplements and logging daily on my community thread, "Never Give Up". Did low carb the first 4 days of last week and lost most of 7 pounds, have not lost any the last 2 days when I added a cup of beans back in the mix. Did okay with corn taco shells loaded with salsa chicken. Also haven't been exercising other than pulling weeds in the garden, so lots of room for improvement. But this is the first time I've actually stuck to a "diet" in a very long time; up until now I've just been eating what I want and feeling guilty about it. Trying to learn all over again how to eat............

Welcome to the Team Carole. Take a moment to check out the 5% Challenge which starts Friday. You will find the topic under the Walk Across America topic under the Motivation and Exercise Forum. This Team is so very flexible, that's one of the things that make it so supportive.

Carole: Welcome! So glad to have you here. And yes, the DEE (Days of Extra Effort) are good for some. That's one thing about this group . . . it's not a "one size fits all" type of group. Everyone is individual, so not everyone does the exact same thing. That is GOOD, because it means we're doing what works for us. I hope you enjoy your involvement here. We're a chatty, friendly group! emoticon

Hello-Carole here. I am new to sparkpeople, been actively using for about 3 weeks. Not ready for the fast 500, but excited to do the DEE.

Ladyhyjink told me about the group and the walk across America-what a great idea-will be joining that one!

I live in WV-moved from AZ 6 months ago.

Always happy to make new friends!

Hi Becky
Love your Ticker, can't wait until mine is like that. I hope you have the time to join our 5% Challenge starting Friday. We love having maintainers logging their weight as an inspiration to the rest of us. As Barb says just ask any questions you wan't to know, someone will have an answer.

Hi everyone! Just joined the team!
I'm currently trying to maintain my weight and keep up my motivation to stay healthy! I have some health issues as well as just being busy from every day life that can make that a challenge some days. So I just keep reminding myself of the long term benefits of exercise and maintaining a healthy weight - well that and reminding myself how much more fun I have shopping for cloths at the lower weight :)
I'm on the sparkpeople site most days, but I don't always take the time to check out the teams I've joined. I need to try to do that more often as I know others can be a great help on this wonderful journey. Thanks for reading and hope to get to know some of you better.

Good morning team! I joined this morning and read what the team is all about. I'm not sure I can do 500 calories a day, but I am sure I can do 2 days of extra effort! I will shoot for 500 calories on 2 days a week, but if my blood sugar drops too low, I'll put in the extra effort to keep it low. Not my blood sugar though, the calories for the day!

I live in the country and really enjoy our quiet life here with my husband. We try to put in a garden, and we raise turkeys and chickens in the summer. I also enjoy reading, scrap booking and cross stitch. Unfortunately, I love to bake and cook too! But I do find many healthy recipes here on Spark Recipes.

Looking forward to walking across America! have a good week!

Hi everyone! I am joining this team as a 2 DEE.

My name is Nicole and I live in Florida with my husband, 18 yo son, 2 dogs, and 2 cats. I am a professional orchestral flutist, as well as private flute instructor. I have a 24 yo son who will be getting married in July, then moving with his bride to CA, where he will begin his new job at Google. I am so happy for him, but will miss him more than words can express.

I have been dealing with some struggles; my mother has late stage dementia and has been in a nursing home for a year and a half. I am an only child and my father's only support system. At times there is conflict between my father and DH, though my DH would always do anything he needed to do to help my father. To top it all off, I have been having some significant (at times excruciating) back pain since the beginning of February. I have seen my primary doctor and orthopedist. I had an x-ray which didn't show anything, other than the degenerative disk disease that we already knew about. I will start physical therapy after my insurance kicks in on April 1. If there isn't improvement, my doctor will order an MRI. I am taking anti-inflammatory medication, but that hasn't helped much.

Okay, that's probably PLENTY for now! I look forward to getting to know you all!

Hi Lady Carol.........lovely to meet you! Welcome to our slightly crazy, but very loving and supportive team. You are most welcome here.
Take time to look around. We have a step challenge starting on Friday, a birthday list for you to list your birthday on so we can give you a big hurrah on "the" day. A motivation topic where Barb posts incredible motivation pieces and lots more. If you need help just shout someone will be there for you.

Hey everyone! New to the team and never introduced myself, been going thru a crazy time at work that led me to put in for retirement. And joy of joys, it is almost here! Only 6 more days to work and I am DONE!

Add to that, I'm selling my mobile home this afternoon and will be moving back to Colorado on or about the 26th of this month. I'm only taking what will fit in my 2012 VW Jetta Wagon, so trying to pare down everything......after 7 years, that is a lot of stuff! Been giving away a lot of "stuff", leaving my furniture for the house buyers, giving misc pots, pans, cookware, glasses, a 100' electrical cord, grill, coolers, you name it I've given it away!

So my point is, drum roll please........I won't be active until I get set up in Colorado. Then I'm going to devote myself full time to getting in shape, eating clean, and being here to get and give support.

Oh my gosh, I can't believe I lived long enough to retire! I am so looking forward to this new adventure in my life! I will be lurking and keeping my eyes on you until March 20th, then see you in April! emoticon

Hi Sue,
I hope it warms up soon for you. It is hard to imagine here in Australia what it must be like for all my friends in the cold countries. At the moment we are waiting for the temp to go down a bit so we can get out in the day without getting fried.
It is lovely to have you here.

Hi

Just thought I would write a quick note in here today as well as the main chat thread.

My name is Sue and I live in Ontario, Canada with my husband and black lab Skyla. We have two grown boys and a grand-daughter of 4 months. I work from home as a freelance writer so sit at the computer for hours. Trying to take lots of breaks though so I don't get stiff.

My goal is to be able to travel in the winter to a warmer climate as the cold and long winters don't help your aging bones.

Looking forward to meeting everyone.

Sue, Ontario

emoticon Trev! emoticon Glad you have joined!

Losing the cricket didn't put you off then. emoticon But of course we are not all Aussies here. We have members from all over.

Popsy (Penny) from New Zealand said: Word travels quickly on SP, especially when a great new team is launched. I think it's strength is a recognition that one size does not fit all and therefore requirements are flexible and people can adapt them to their circumstances.

As well as the happy vibes that exude from our members, yes, Penny is pretty spot on.

Looking forward to seeing you (if time permits) on our chat forum and huddle, plus spassing and rosettes forums. There are some pretty good motivation entries to read too. All if you have the time of course.

Lovely to have you on board! and we hope you will complete your weight loss journey and stay with us, even in the maintenance stage. We're here for the long haul! emoticon

Hi Mel,

Looks like you have a good site here and I like the concept of two low calorie intake meals a day. By doing this you should gain about three thousand calories a week which works to about half a kilo of loss - well hopefully anyway.

For the benefit of the other members here I am Trev - I reside in the UK and am a freelance artist. I am also keen on cookery and photography. I have just crossed my halfway line of losing 80 kilos or 185 pounds. I have 38 kilos or 95 pounds to go which I hope to progress through a good chunk of in 2014.

I look forward to getting to know the rest of you in here over the next few months.

Cheers

Trev

Hi I'm Analicia and Mel introduced me to this team.
And since we all love Mel, I knew this team would be great!!
I did experience great success the first four months of last year
with weight loss on Spark, but then I had gotten discouraged.
So I am hoping this year, I will continue on with success.
And I am hoping we can all encourage each other on with our goals!
Good day to you!

Hi Stephanie: great you joined our Team and hope you have fun while losing weight and gaining health and fitness at the same time. I actually do DEEf's as is a little easier for me than the Fast 500s, and some don't bother, they just stay and have a natter or join in the Spassing.

Spassing is when you exercise in fits and starts ie. spasmodically for 1 minute at a time. Use your imagination for the Spassing you want to complete in your day.

Mix and match your Spassing and don't forget to COUNT how many in 1 minute. Alternatively you can step count, strength train, anything you want. Just enjoy the Challenge against yourself by beating your count ... as long as you ENJOY !!

When you have completed your daily Spassing, back to the Forum you go to post your achievements, and brag about it, because you're worth it!! emoticon emoticon

I find Spassing keeps me accountable, so it helps me a lot.

Hi I'm Stephanie--I listened to the Fast Diet clip with interest, and I think I'll try it. It sounds interesting, although I will have to look up a few things about it. Right now I'm not really eating or exercising, I have a bad cold and if I move I cough. My only goal is to keep hydrated right now. What is spassing?

Hi everyone.
My name is Ellen and like Linda, I am diabetic. I am a type 2.
I live in England with my DH. We have one grandchild and 2 sons and one daughter.
We have a red eared terrapin that is 34 years old. We are both dog lovers but ours have long since gone.
Both of us love to walk and watch birds and wildlife. We both love photography.
I must say, I have benefited by eating less calories a couple of times a week. I do eat if I feel hungry though, especially after strength training, or running. I was on a plateau again, but these strategies started me off again with less calories also.

Hi there Linda and welcome! Yes, we have lots of diabetics here. This team is more about fun and support than doing anything too 'over the top'. I am sure that some of the other members who are diabetics will 'chip' in and let in on something that is of benefit to you. But just as we stand, all you have to be is YOURSELF and enjoy the ride!! emoticon

We have Spassing that is 1 minute exercises of your choice - we have Fast500 which I don't think is for diabetics as limits you to 2 x days of 500 calories per day - we have DEEf which are Days of Extra Effort with your food and go and claim a Rosette on the forum for your achievements; am pretty sure anyone with diabetes can do a DEEf and then if you want to be really cool, go claim a Rosette for your DEEa too which is your Days of Extra Effort for activity!!

So you see, there is plenty of scope and check out the motivation forums, recipes, and other stuff hanging around. Lots to see and do and NEVER forget to come and Huddle and Chat as you are now part of US and, after all, we are ONE FOR ALL AND ALL FOR ONE! so there is always someone to look after you and give you the support you need.

I saw this on another members page and wanted to ask a question so had to join to do that.....

Is anyone on the team (insulin dependent) diabetic and if so, how has it worked for you?

Insulin is a fat storing hormone and I hang onto every bit of fat I have. I really want to loose some of it.....

I'm going to join you with hopefully a daily DEEa (Day of Extra Effort for Activity) and because tomorrow (Sunday) is the first day of the week, I shall claim and post a Rosette next Sunday...on the thread where we claim Rosettes and simply put - my DEEa for the week with a (hopefully) 7 x emoticon

Maybe you would like to join me on that one and see if we can do a 7 day-er each?
Let's get this body moving, girl!! It's TIME to rock n'roll! emoticon

Hi everyone, i am in my 4th week of 5:2 and loving it! I feel healthier than I have in a long time. I am still tracking my calories, but eat at the high end of my range on non fast days! Tomorrow might be my biggest challenge yet. I have a dozen yummy peaches left over fripom canning with a friend tonight. Although I could eat one on fast day tomorrow, I usually save my 500 calories for protein and veggies. We shall see how I do until dinner time!

A lot of Sparkies have dark backgrounds and light print, so therefore nothing shows up when you're typing on their page. Use a text editor to type your message and copy/paste into the said person's page to be sure that you have no typos.

I've noticed the typing problem with quite a few pages, but especially ones with a blue shade background. I've found that if I type what I want to say and post it it does appear on the page even though I couldn't see it as I wrote.

Foggy here, chill, airport closed! Shingles still prospering, drat it! But I have my reading group here this afternoon and that will take my mind off my woes. It's an informal group and we each talk about our reading for the month - it's amazing the variety of titles and authors that come up and then we talk about everything and anything. I made a rule when I set it up - I provide drinks but no food so the focus stays on people and reading rather than what's for afternoon tea. And everyone seemed relieved!

POPSY190 (Penny) ~ Good luck with your DEEf and yes, how great if you could manage the DEEa as well but don't overdo, just concentrate more on getting rid of those horrid shingles first.

JACEUG (Jacques) ~ Is great you are here as it's the place to keep the Spark Flame alive and power up your mojo! Congratulations on your 12kg weight loss, and I think the 6-pack is a myth as blokes who sport 6-packs are pro athletes and work at it for hours every day. It's just not a 'real-life' goer. And well done for starting the 5km walk that so many Sparkies enjoyed.

1KSBEST (Karen) ~ Bet that peach pie has been washed right thru by now, lol. Isn't freezing just the best way to go, not only to save eating too much at the time, but economical for saving meals for another day. The best of luck with your Die-hard day of 500C; mine is tomorrow. We can do this!!

SNOOPYMOMMA72 (Barbara) ~ I have not followed your advice for a few days now, bwah! "One thing that is never regrettable - a workout!" I've been missing far too many workouts because I am just too darn lazy to get my butt out of bed on these cold mornings.

Hello Jacques, and welcome to this vibrant team.
Today (Tuesday) is a DEE for me so I'm being careful with food. I'll expand it to activity (does that mean I'll have a DEEf and a DEEa? emoticon ) but the shingles hamper too much movement. However, with any luck the medication will soon put paid to them! Have a good day, everyone.

Hi,

My name is Jacques and I have been invited by 1beachwalker. I am 52, diabetic and in search for new mojo to keep the spark alive. I did very well during my first year and lost 12 kilos and toned up the man breasts (blush) and belly, which is much firmer but not a 6 pack yet :) Don't think it will ever be - but a flat hard stomach will help.

When I started with SP I was on 32 units of NPH insulin injected in the evenings - now I am on zero, but the motivation i had in the beginning has subsided a bit. I decided last week enough is enough and I have to try again. I invited my SP friends and we have done a 5Km virtual race. I have to give most of the credit to 1Beachwalker who has invited lost of her friends. It was amazing.

I started with a 'Keep the Mojo Alive' challenge on my blog and 3 of my SP friends: 1 Beachwalker, Patti441, Maggievan and 1Mankey has joined me. I find the support amongst my SP friends amazing.

Happy sparking everyone.

Life is a journey... enjoy the ride!
