Hello All,

I work in an office setting as well and I am looking for some tips and support. It can get really challenging when your job itself is sedentary, then boredom kicks in and all these other things that make you want to sit and eat. emoticon Sparkpeople helps a lot with tracking what I eat, and I joined a boot camp last month and already lost a few pounds so I figure I will try to keep it up, and I'll be good to go.

Hi fellow Office Dwellers! I'm Brandi and I have tried SparkPeople before, but have serious issues with sticking to it. I have decided to make 2014 my year. I am an engineering tech for the West Virginia Division of Highways. My job requires me to be in an office all day and instead of letting it be a hinderance, I am going to find ways to incorporate it. My husband works in the same building as I do, so I am excited about getting him involved too! I am 30 years old and need to lose about 75 pounds. I will not turn 31 looking and feeling like I do!

Hi, my name is Debbie. I've worked in an office setting for 28 years now and getting bigger with everyone of them. My problem is that my desk is out in the open in the hall and people are walking by all day long. I'm shy :) I did do the bathroom exercises but we only have one on this floor and someone's always waiting outside to use it. Other departments have the same issue so that's not an option. I've been reading some of the forums on this SparkTeam and I think I'm really going to like it here. Great ideas already. Maybe I can't do 10 lunges and 10 squats during one visit to the bathroom but I can break it up. I have wrist and hand weights and just recently bought weight balls. I think my desk should become home to one of them. We have stairs throughout the building and lately I've been using them more. Don't really have need to go to the other floors but I'll just tour around more. I'm looking forward to spending time here with this team emoticon

Hi Everyone! My name is Jes, I'm an account manager and insurance agent in Ellsworth, Maine. Being at a desk all day definitely hasn't done anything positive for my weight or fitness level. I also have a 45 minute commute (each way), which doesn't help either! My work days tend to be from one extreme to another; either I'm right out straight all day or I'm bored out of my mind!

Hi Summer, and emoticon !

I know what you mean about boredom; my job is very slow. It has its peaks and valleys. Right now it's extremely slow. What I do is come to this website and read the posts. They are all so inspiring and encouraging.

Something I also did to be productive is create a detailed office procedures manual listing all my responsibilities. It did kill a lot of time, and it's a good reference.

I don't think I helped you too much, but I do understand because I am bored right now.

Hi! My name is Becky and I work as an Administrative Coordinator for a non profit legal organization in downtown Chicago. I have 87 pounds to lose. I sit most of the time, but I do drink a lot of water which makes me get up. If I don't exercise in the morning, I take a walk during my lunch break, even if it's cold. My main problem is my right foot; I have a neuroma and experience pain when I walk, but I try to get past it. I look forward to getting to know all of you!!!

Hi There! My name is Melissa. I work for an oilfield company in Alberta, Canada as a Cost Control Analyst. I love my job but sitting for 8 hours a day makes it challenging to be more active. Also, there are so many unhealthy food choices tempting me! I am looking forward to making some friends dealing with similar situations and learning some new ways to be more active and avoid the unhealthy choices!!

Hi! I am new to the team and relatively new to spark people. I am 31 years old and have been married to my best friend for 8 years. I have worked in an office for the same company for 14 years now. While I love my job, sitting 8+ hours a day five days a week is not helping my fitness. I am looking forward to making some new friends on the team.

Happy sparking!

Hi everyone! I'm Sara and I run an office for Dr Pepper Snapple Group. I love my job! I don't like being stuck at a desk all day. This is the first job I've had where I'm stationary and there are times when I go and walk through the warehouse just to get out of the office. I'm hoping to find some great tips and possibly offer my own for dealing with a stationary job. One of my biggest challenges is snacking at work. I enjoy having a chocolate stash! I do try to take almonds, yogurt or string cheese to try and keep myself away from the chocolate.

I look forward to chatting with all the wonderful people in this forum!

Hi everyone! My name is Heidi and I am a Customer Support Rep at a Security Company. Our customer support department is part of the Accounting department. We are the people that everyone in the company goes to for everything, you get the drift. Anyway, I sit at a computer all day, I have two 15 minute breaks and one 30 min lunch break. I was in a car accident on December 5th (rear-ended) so I have not exercised or been to the gym since then. I am 5' 8" and about 210 pounds, I'm 48 years old and have recently been told I need to get my blood pressure under control. It had never been a problem before. My goal is to fit back into all of my cute size 8 clothing (currently can wear 12's tight or 14 comfortably) and to be fit and in shape by the time I turn 50. It is not easy at work, I know that all of you know about the food at work... doughnuts, bagels, catered lunches, goodies during the holidays, etc., etc., etc., I could go on and on ad nauseum. That along with the other 3 girls in my department are all 20 + years younger than me but even they are out of shape and could lose a few pounds. Oh well, I love my job and I make decent money and the benefits are pretty good, besides being necessary at my age. I am excited to find this group because it helps so much to have people to talk to who understand and can help motivate. I am looking forward to getting to know you all.

Hi, I'm Linda and I work as an "Office Goddess." I'm getting ready to train my 4th new director in 6 years - I hope she stays awhile. I am really getting sick of training new folks. My favorite office coping tool is "Stillness Buddy." that comes on my computer at programmed intervals with an inspirational quote to remind me to take a one minute mental break and breathe.

Assalamu Alaikum ~ Peace be with You.

Awesome! Good luck! You'll love it. Just keep signing up for them and eventually you can move to a 10K. I did my first 10K in February. I was so nervous, but it was really fun. It really helped to have people cheering for me along the way. I just got back to running this week and need to sign up for a 5K to make me keep going. I eventually want to do a half marathon. I'm not sure if that will happen by the end of this year, but we shall see.

Hi Sierra. I like that you have your mini goals in your signature. I remember doing the couch to 5K a few years ago. Good job and good luck! Have you done any races yet?

Hi everyone!

I've been on SP for about a month now. Glad to find a team that deals with the same daily issues I do. I always had very active jobs, and did not need to find ways to exercise so much. I got my desk job in November 2010, and immediately saw the difference. I put on just a little weight due to less activity, but also because I was trying to make friends with coworkers who liked to eat out a lot. I then backed off from that as I tried to lose for my wedding in the Spring of last year. I still think the only reason I fit into that dress was because of stress/excitement, LOL. As soon as the wedding was over, my weight went back up, and kept going a little at a time. I either sit at a desk or sit in a car for work. I eat at my desk or in the car, even though I pack good stuff and always make sure to have healthy snacks on hand. It's just the inactivity for most of the day really gets to me. I feel lazy, which makes me want to be lazy the rest of the day. BUT, I am determined to go for short walks at least a few times a day. We also have stairs that no one ever uses, so I can do those.

Glad to be here!

Hi Everyone!

I've been consistent on Sparkpeople for one week now (even though I joined in April emoticon ) but I am excited to be a part of the team. I'm a 27 year old office manger...and I've been battling with my weight for quite sometime now. I am ready for change and excited about the process. I have about 100lbs to lose to be at a healthy weight for my height. Sparkpeople has been the extra motivation I needed to make it happen, along with great accountability partners. emoticon

Determination, Perseverance, and Consistency pays off!!!

Hello,

My name is Sara. I am 28, 5' 5', and I weight 240 pounds (that was hard to type). I currently wear a size 18W. My goal is to be comfortable in a regular woman's (not plus size) size 14.

I was born and raised on the Big Island of Hawaii. White rice was a staple of our diet, and we pretty much ate it every single day. My dad is a fisherman, but although fresh fish is usually a great healthy thing to eat, we tended to fry it and eat it with tartar sauce. We lived 2 hours away from the nearest large grocery store and lived on food stamps. Fresh veggies and local produce were all but non-existent in our household. The closest thing to healthy we got was a bag of frozen peas.

I have always been big. I don't feel like it was a noticeable slow slide into obesity. It is all I have ever known. I was actually a very happy and active child. My weight never bothered me much, even when I was teased. When I hit puberty, everything changed. All of my friends began to date and suddenly the teasing depressed me. I had a falling out with my closest friend because, unlike me, she was able to lose the weight and left me behind (this is how I saw it anyway). Suddenly I would spend nights eating and crying myself to sleep and I finally figured out that I was in real trouble here, trapped in this ugly body.

Throughout high school I made a few failed attempts to lose weight. I hated myself, and never was able to enter the dating scene. Everyone kept telling me that things would change when I went to college. They didn't. After college, I moved to Oregon. I was at my highest weight, 265 pounds.

A few years after moving here, I started to have some alarming symptoms of blurry vision and headaches. I went to the doctor and she told me I had extreme high blood pressure. This was FINALLY the wake-up call that I needed. I had always hated being big, but for the first time in my life I was afraid to die. I broke down and poured my heart out to the doctor, who quickly put me on a low cal and exercise regiment. In one year I lost 50 pounds and was at a normal blood pressure range. I also met a wonderful man *tee-hee* and moved in with him.

Normally, this is where the story would end, all happy and shiny. Life, however, is no fairy tale. Over the last year and a half I have gained back 30 of the 50 pounds lost.

I am here on SparksPeople to regain control of my weight loss journey. I tried a low-carb diet for 70 days, and was able to lose 10 pounds, however I decided that it was not going to work for a long term life change. I am going to switch to a low-cal diet (1500-1600 calories a day), and commit to working out at least 4 days a week for 1 hour.

Wish me luck.

Hi, I'm Hend. I work in the Business Development dept at my company. My job is pretty stressful & keeps me busy all the time, so it's really difficult for me to squeeze in some exercise during the day.

I'm trying sparkpeople.com for the 1st time & I'll just wait & see how it will help me . emoticon

Good Morning ... I'm Carol and live in Maryland. work in the Accounting Department of a food manufactuing plant. Being bound to that chair behind that desk for hours gets really old to me! Some things I've beean able to change since I discovered this site in February-

1) No more "combo" trips to do anything--it's a separate trip no matter what --gets me up and moving more and I get some more steps in every day

2) Lunch - the concept of "2 salad/2 soup/1 other" lunch has worked well for me. I carry 2 cans of Progresso Light soup, 1 can of some kind of beans on Monday - eat 1 can of soup and half the can of beans in the soup (the soup alone proved to be too litle food for me-and-I know, too much sodium - but that is another battle for me)
- then on Tuesday I take a salad with some chicken, tuna, lo fat ham, whatever - and greek yogurt dressing - enough for 2 days - have salad for lunch and save the rest for Thursday -
by Wed there is generally some kind of leftover available to take - Thursday is Salad#2 day-- Friday is Soup/Beans #2 day. Having that soup and beans there has saved me more than once from ordering out---

On weekends I fix my own 100 calorie snacks for my desk drawer, so there are options I keep almonds, dry roasted peanuts a few reduced fat crackers, whatever I have in thoe house that week. I keep portioned out servings of cereals for breakfast - make oatmeal at home on the weekends and portion out to grab on the way out the door - also, I try to keep some WW yogurt, string cheese, turkey pepperoni and carrot strips in a bag in the fridge at work....(I'm lucky to be able to do that - but having it ready at home to grab on the way out the door works just as well!) Seems a bit like pack-rat habits, but it keeps me away from the bad stuff -- so far!

I track every day with a goal to eat 500 calories per day less than my body needs to maintain itself. That translates to a pound a week - and any more calorie savings just makes me happy. The exercise is a bonus that I don't consided in my calorie tracking. I've been tracking at an average of 1.2 pounds worth of calorie savings each week since I started really using this site...some weeks a little more, some weeks a little less -- that just Fires Me Up!

Good luck to everyone on your journies! Changing those habits at work seem almost more difficult than those at home... but this site is a huge motivator and I keep coming back for more!!

I work in an office too, and have a hard time sneaking walks into my lunch break. I tried Spark a couple years ago and am trying it again.

Hi Everyone.

I'm new to this team so I thought I'd introduce myself. I'm the office gopher (or go-to person as one suck-up at the office called me.) My actual office title changes depending on what needs to be accomplished. Personally, I am the one that makes everyone else look good by making sure that all the details they missed are filled in. I put out panic fires, track documents, etc. And I am bored silly at the office because there just isn't enough happening here to keep me busy and for the last nine months or so, the pay isn't quite enough and I have had to dip into the savings and credit each month. So I am looking for another position that will pay just as well and be permanent. I did the temp jobs for four years and my stress levels crept up - so I don't want to go back.

Outside of work, I am a hobbit that lives underground in a quiet basement suite that pokes out her head to visit with neighbors and relatives whenever she can. I need more exercise and better eating habits. So I am here.

So glad to meet you. I hope to get to know a few of you through your posts and pages. Maybe we can get healthy together.

Bev

For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love, and of self-control.

Hello! I'm new to the cubicle and 9-5 sector, all of my previous positions have had me on my feet all day. Now my position doesn't have a break and only a half hour lunch.. I'm hoping to continue to stay active and I know I'm going to have to work a little harder to get where I want to be! I'm always up for any challenges so let me know if you find a good one!

Hello everyone, I am new to this team. I work at a desk daily...for a community college. I advise students and help them in any way I can. I love my job but hate the fact that I sit on my butt all day. Looking forward to getting to know some new peeps. emoticon

Hello all! I'm new to the team. I work for a medical coding/billing office. Well, that means sitting behind a computer a majority of the day. I teach one night a week at our community college for the medical coding program. More behind the desk work. I'm pretty lucky considering. My primary employer encourages us to get up from our desk and move around. We even joined the MN Biggest Loser Challenge as an office last year. This year we've done it again with BizicallyFit. I do okay while these are happening, but really tend to get lazy again the first part of winter. I do have a health issue that tends to set me back on occassion. When my back starts acting up, walking to get where I need to go becomes a chore and starts making me discouraged. I'm hoping to be able to keep myself motivated so as not to fall back into the bad habits I'm working to change.

Slow and steady wins the race.

Hi everyone! I work at a Student Information Desk, which means we're open for business all day long. So unfortunately no off-desk lunch breaks for me. But I'm trying to take the stairs often and bring lunch and snacks from home: healthy and cheap, in comparison to the food we can buy at the restaurant. I'm doing pretty good at the moment, the only thing that really needs some improvement at the moment is maybe some yoga every week to prevent from getting RSI, which I suffered from before, and still feel coming up some days.

Hello. My name is Kat and I am an accountant. I used to be fit and active but since starting my desk job 5 and a half years ago things have changed! Sitting inactively at a desk all day craving (and eating) snacks (chocolate, crisps etc, basically all the bad stuff) has put me on that slippery downhill slope. But now its time to pick myself back up and fight!

Hello all fellow desk jockeys! My name is MJ and I am a 44 year mom of a beautiful 5 year old who wishes I was a stay a home mom instead of a working mom. Me too, that why I buy lotto tickets when I can. :-) I am originally from PA - near Pittsburgh but now I live in Colorado - the home of hikers, skiers and campers. I have a 80lb journey ahead of me so that I can enjoy Colorado more than just sit in my office and see the mountains on my computer screen. Hope to meet some great people and learn a lot of neat stuff to help in my journey from office to mountains. :-)

Hello! My name is Carrie, I'm 29 from Scranton, PA and I work for a trucking/warehousing company as a Customer Service Rep with a operations focus. I've been working at my current job for a little under 5 years and while I love my job, the constant ordering out for lunch is a killer on my weight loss. A little less than one year ago I suffered a heart attack and had triple by pass surgery which was a major eye opener that I needed to make changes to my life to loose weight and live healthy. I'm happy to say that I completed a 5k walk on Saturday in 54 minutes, this same walk I was in last year a month before my heart attack and I was barely able to finish the 1k portion. While I feel great about this accomplishment my weight loss hasn't been what I would have hoped for over the past 11 months, so I look forward to sucking motivation from all of you and increasing my weight loss and striving to be the best me I can be.

Carrie

Hello! Glad I found this team! I'm looking forward to reading suggestions about how others are able to navigate the challenges of working in an office. We have food around here all summer and goodies for breakfast year round. So hard to say no when someone has baked something with their own two hands to share... :)

Hi, I'm brand new to SP. Day 2 here. Still have so much to learn. I'm a lifetime WW member but currently my only plan is to make progress each day toward a healthier way of living. I lost nearly 100 lbs in 2001. Since then, I've had 2 children. I now have 100 lbs to lose again. I've worked for the same company for 22 years. Snacking at my desk and in the car going to and from work are some of my challenges.

Hi everyone!! I'm new to the team. I've been a SP member since 2008. I've been working in an office setting for nearly 5 years now. I've lost weight, gained it back and lost it again. I recently had a child (in January) and now I'm trying to work off this extra 10 lbs of pregnancy weight. I was a little overweight to begin with so after I get these 10 lbs off I'm aiming for another 33 lbs to be at my goal weight, and hoping to accomplish this by my daughter's first birthday. I work in a cubicle so it's a little harder to get in exercise without anyone noticing. I do try to take walks either as a quick break or on lunch. I will walk around the block which takes from 8 to 10 minutes depending on if I'm reading or listening to music or neither of those. Since summer has started I hope to get in more walks, 2 or 3 a day, in order to boost the amount of exercise I spend since most time at home is spent taking care of the baby. I'm excited to meet all new and existing members and hope to gain some new friends with creative ideas for exercise in the workplace.

Hi all,

My name is Sandi, I work in a call center at a bank. Not only do we sit at our desk all day but stress can be pretty high at times also. I am hoping to find some exercises and tips to help me become more fit while sitting at my desk.

Hello all! I work as an Admin. Assisitant at a state hospital and I am trying to learn how to adapt to an office job! Before this year I worked in a gym, so staying active was no problem- being behind a desk is a big change!

hello! i work in a museum and i'm in front of the computer for hours at a time. my biggest problem at work is going out for lunch everyday instead of bringing something healthy from home; so that's my big goal to change.

before this job i worked through college as a server/bartender and i never exercised and was pretty skinny because of all the running around you have to do and little time to eat. as soon as i got a sit down job the weight came on quickly and i gained 50lbs in the past couple years. i also have a lot of pain in wrist and shoulders from being hunched over a compter all day. i detest exercise but i have found the recomendations from sparkpoints to be VERY helpful!

Part of the secret of a success in life is to eat what you like and let the food fight it out inside

Hello!

I am a legal secretary in Michigan. Mother of 3 girls, grandma of 2 girls. SIt at a desk all day and have no privacy whatsoever! Shoving my face all day has been my way of getting through the day. Since I'm the only one here for the two attorneys, it makes my crazy some days! I'm not complaining - sorta am - I'm thankful for my job. Just wondering if it's worth it.

Bored & confused ~ Carmen

I can do this! I will do this! Thank you Jesus!

Need motivation to get back on track! I began exercising in 2004 and continued with daily one-hour exercise (videos mostly) until about two years ago. I cannot seem to get back into a regular routine. I start, do it four a few weeks, then stop due to being busy or some other reason. I am 52 now, ran my first (and only) marathon at the age of 50, and want to get back into the shape I was in when I got married two and a-half years ago. Yep, a major life change also changed my exercise habits.

I work two jobs - one fulltime and the other about 30 hours a week. So almost two fulltime jobs. I am finding it hard to find the time to exercise. I just need motivation to MAKE time. HELP

Hello...I'm the Admin/Office Manager for an office of desk jockeys...engineers to be exact. Although I find myself running in circles around the office most days...I also find that my butt is consistently keeping up the widening growth rate it has always shown. I use to be a runner but had a knee injury that has prevented my ability to keep running and now I find myself unsure how to keep the pounds from creeping on. I just want to be skinny again...I try and eat with good nutrition in mind (I am also a culinary student) but alas...it all seems to be utilizing gravity to settle happily in my butt. :P

I'm just glad there is a group here on Spark to help me meet my goals...even when I am at work. Thanks for being here!

Hello everyone!

I'm a Sparker for a long time (almost 4 years back and forth) but recently became officially a cubicle worker. At least I have a gym where I work (plus a rebate). In this place, they told me that everybody who works in this office gains weight - but I decided it won't happen to ME!!! There this woman at the office who bakes incredible cakes! They're so good! But I need to resist to the temptation (even if my boss gives me a plate without asking).

What can I say about myself? Wel... I'm 26, I work for an awesome place thought I sit all day long. I am from Canada - Quebec, in the city of Montreal.

Have a nice day!

Hi all! I'm Christina from Massachusetts...36 years old, mom to two and a full time cubicle dweller.

I used to work in retail and was always moving around...and was in shape. Now that I am in the office environment, it's easy to just grab a snack and sit at my desk and munch away happily.

Until now. I'm making a commitment to myself that this is it. No more.

Looking forward to chatting with you all!

Hi all, I went from walking across a huge campus with a bookbag in tow on a daily basis to sitting at a desk 8-10 hrs a day. Id even eat my lunch at my desk. Ever have the feeling people expect you to respond to email message no longer than you can hold your breath? Ugh! That's how it is for me. So in the 5 yes I've been in the work world I just realized I gained ~30 friggin lbs! I can't continue at this rate or I'll be in the land of no return. So I'm making my plight public, I'm seeking support as I follow my nutrition plan that's laid out for me. Thats the road to success right? Cheers to us cube fellows! Let's reverse the damage the cube life has done to our figures! PS I'm a newbie : )

Hi there,
Just saw that one of my Spark friends had commented on Pat's blog and I followed along to read the blog (way to go Pat- only 4 pounds to go!!) and saw your Spark page and saw this team and here I am...

Seems like a lot of Spark is like that. I follow the friend feeds and see where it takes me. :-)

I'm Rebecca. I live in Massachusetts. I sit in a cube full-time Monday-Friday. I just turned 40 this year, and my daughter just turned 5 a few days ago. My wonderful hubby and I are both battling our weight issues in different ways. We're also doing what we can to make sure our daughter doesn't grow up with the same problems we've had.

Welcome new members and welcome to the team! Feel free to jump into and chat and let us know what 'issues' you might have at work that are weight or non-weight related. Please, also, share any experiences that working in an office environment presents. Good luck, Pat emoticon emoticon

Hi Everyone! I'm new, obviously. I'm Crystal and I'm an Administrative Assistant/QI Coordinator at a hospice agency. I, unfortunately, spend most of my time sitting at a computer all day - which makes it a bit difficult to lose weight. Oh and don't forget the dreaded office goodies that always seem to be lying around!

I sit at a desk most of the day (a little walking between buildings for meetings). I'm often on conference calls, so I can walk around a little with my headset on.

My current goal is to limit my work time to 8 hours a day -- no sitting around at home checking my work email.

JUST JOINED!! Purposely looked for a team that is in the same boat I'm in - behind a desk in a dilbert style cube all day. Just need some really good suggestions on how to get moving and motivated in a job like this one. Thanks!

Hey! I am Melissa and I have been working a desk job about 2 years ago. My first office job was as a receptionist in a very small office so whenever there were snacks they were right there and I didn't have much opportunity to leave my desk. The job I am at now I am an administrative assistant with my own office (no bad snacks in here) but I do have to pass them on my way to the restroom. At this job there isn't much opportunity to leave my desk but I do have more of an opportunity to do so. I need all the advice that there is to offer!!

Hi. I am Hilary and recently started working a desk job. I get up and move some, but need help with curbing my eating when I am home. I do well during the work day, then I come home so I need some tips to help me along. I look forward to the advice and friendships that will form.

Hi my name is Kristy. I sit at a desk m-f all day. My butt is proof! LOL. I am here to change though. I have ideas and thoughts and would love to share them, and get your ideas as well.

hi there!

I joined SP in Spring, but have only been using it to track food and exercise. I decided today to utilize the many other tools SP has to offer. A new "friend" led me to this forum.

I am 33, and for the last 10 years have been progressively gaining weight. I realized I had hit bottom when I reached my peak weight of 275 lbs. I decided on my 33 birthday I had to make positive changes. And so I started walking. Walking has turned to hiking. And, I try to take a short walk each day to get away from my desk (when I can). It definitely makes me feel better, and I bet more productive at work.

I look forward to reading more from this team.

Hey there,
Been on SP for about three years now. I currently work in medical records in a hospital. Out of a five day week, there are evenings that I sit more than others. Sometimes doctors ask for their charts and those are the moments I volunteer just to get out of my seat!

I try to have good snacks at my desk like Goldfish and pretzels with water and I try not to snack too much either. I work evenings and midnights, so I'm pretty doomed to have a big rearend! emoticon

I saw this team on a new members page, so I thought I'd try it out and see how it goes.

Oh, and because I work evenings and midnights, I can't find a normal college setting to go to, so I'm also sitting at home most of the time doing online college, so another reason to get some good exercise in and eat better!

emoticon

Who have you encouraged today?

Hi, I've been a pricing analyst for the past 9 months - and I've gained 20 lbs in that short time. I sit at my desk all day and hardly ever get up. The stress is unlike anything that I've ever experienced. Because of the extreme stress, I don't feel like doing anything other than sitting on the couch when I get home. But I'm hoping to make a change! I am going to focus on myself and try to lose the 20 lbs!

Hi, I've been an admin asst for the last almost 12 years (yikes) and have chronic back and neck problems. It's hard to find a job these days that offers a lunch hour, it seems. I guess that was in the good old days. Also, our days have gotten extremely long these last several years (or maybe it's me). I work in finance and can't believe the amount of hours that's considered normal; gone are the days of 9-5. No wonder I struggle with weightloss.

Hey there. I am a 31, over worked, under paid (aren't we all?) admin for an engineering company in Houston TX. Before this I worked retail for a feed & hardware store. I never realized how many calories I burned at that job until the "chair spread" set in. I have gained almost 50 pound in 5 years. My first goal is to loose 15 pounds before Thanksgiving. Not sure whats going to be after that...

I get to walk a lot in my job so that is a God send. Now if I can just weed out using the elevator... And I have a horse to ride after work so at least I don't have to spend all my time on a treadmill!

Hi all! I have worked in an office for all of my adult life. I have been a cube for the last 4 or 5 years. I really miss the chance to close my door to distractions. I work for a home builder in Florida so times are real tough right now. We have down sized from an office of 15 to just 3 administrators. We are all doing 2 and 3 times the work for the same pay. I am happy to still have my job but sure hope it gets better soon. I have been on SP since about February. I am trying to watch what I eat and I walk most days of the week. I look forward to seeing what everyone has to say on this team.

I have been with SP since January 2007, but wasn't very active in the site until the past year. I am currently an unemployed administrative assistant who has worked in local & state government, and hopefully will be able to obtain employment in that area again. I have found that keeping track of calories eaten has been the biggest thing that has helped me. You just don't realize how many calories are in everything you eat. Also by keeping track of the amount of exercise I do, I am always aiming to go further & burn more calories in a shorter amount of time. I have really enjoyed this site and how motivating it is!

Hi Everyone,

I've been on Sparkpeople for some time now (2 different logins in 4 years) but I didn't realize that there was a team for officepeople like me until MCNABBS63 left me a reply to my blog post (thanks Sandi) :) So I'm here, I've worked in a cubicle in the billing dept of a 3rd party Logistic Transportation company for 6 years now, and I'm glad to be here:)
