There are lots of Team Challenge groups out there. I was part of a challenge called BLC and also 5% challenge. Those are great places to start. You'll meet lots of people working toward the same goals in a friendly team competition environment. Those teams really helped me a lot!

Hi there everyone,
I am in Gloversville about 45 - hour outside of Albany. I started with SparkPeople 4 days ago. Actually I stumbled across the website months ago I liked it for all it had to offer & saved it until I was ready to do it. now the time has come. My short term goal is to lose 50 lbs by my birthday which is in November. My long term goal is to lose 150 lbs, and I would love to be able to dance again.
Right now I have obstacles that are hindering me from doing normal exercises, the biggest being not able to stand more than 5-10 minutes, very weak legs & bad knees. So I have joined the Chair Exercising group, the Motivational group, of course the Virtual Weigh-in group and a couple others. I'd love to hear from you & where everyone is from.

Hi everyone! My name is christine I am from nyc and just started today. I hope to inspire as well as be inspired. I have done this before without any luck. This time will be different. Hi ,I live 20 miles north of Utica and it is miserable today. Blowing snowing and cold.
I have been an off and on member for quite a while but just keep going back and forth with the same 3-5 pounds. I really want to get down 30 lbs. by August. I am back at the gym and doing Zumba,I really plan on sticking to this now.
I find that tracking all of my food is the secret for me.

Hi I'm a long islander! Name is Cher & I'm trying to lose weight to prolong my life. As well as be a better example for my son. My husband joined me in this life changing project. Sadly he doesn't give his all to this. But that's ok maybe when I loose a noticeable amount he'll jump on the band wagon full time. I started giving my all. July 12th 2013 and have lost 11lbs so far. Hello New York,

I'm in Astoria, Queens. I'm 50-yr-old woman who was very physically active in my youth and have the injuries and worn out joints and herniated discs to prove it.

I find going to the gym demoralizing because I now have to work at such a slow pace.
Anyone else in this area & interested in an exercise program that will not kick butt?

I've been there done that. It was fun while it lasted, but I'm in a different place

Hello all, I've been a Spark Member since 2006, and I spent a lot of time here over the years. Always let Spark lie dormant a bit and then thought better of it, and started using the amazing Spark Powers again. I am making great lifestyle changes and love to track my nutrition and exercise. I have busted knee, so I have to modify a lot of exercises, do small increments and really watch out not to overdo it. It is a bit of an adventure. Just by tracking my food I have been able to keep track of my cholesterol intake, which I would like to lower to a healthier number.
I live in the Capital Region, out there where the coyotes and skunks sing songs by the fire at night :)

Greetings;

It has been a while since I have been on this team-had my surgery on Dec 17th, 2012 Gastric Bypass done Lap via Davinci and have been getting used to my pouch. Doing well-getting my fluids and protein in.
On Dec 15th at clinic my weight was-253.2. My weight now is 223.6.
I had to get new uniforms for work-I was a 4XL and now I am a 3XL-both in tops and pants.

I get in 3 meals a day of which consists of protein. I can only eat 2 tablespoons at a meal right now before my stomach says it's full. I should start getting 3 tablespoons per meal soon. I hear that later on I should be able to get in 3-4 ounces per meal. Then I have 2 protein drinks per day to help supplement and if I have time a small protein snack. Plus vitamin, B-12, and a calcium citrate plus D3.
I think I am getting a bit of a routine down, which is good as I go back to work at the hospital on the 29th Jan.It will be good to get back to work-but the first week back will be a doozy as I have been off work since Dec 16th.
I get my exercises in and I walk.

I cannot believe we wre going to be getting temps in the 50's and 60's!
I am not new to SP, joined this group in .July, but never REALLY joined. So HI! I live in the southern tier and have found myself back at my starting weight after re- injury to my lower back/tailbone.
Went out and bought a Wii fit fory birthday yesterday.... The kids and I "played" on it for over an hour! It wasn't a workout by any means, but getting to know the games.... It s fun and we were moving.
I have three amazing kids, ages 12,9,18 months. Married... Have about 90 pounds to shake and shed and never see again! I battle depression, sometimes well.... Sometimes not so well. I am a stay home mom and getting out to socialize with adults is not very easy. This is my interaction.
Hope we can move and motivate each other to reach our goals.

I've been a member for several years (joined SP 3 years ago). I regularly read the emails I get from SP, and sometimes the articles. I always click to be rewarded my daily spark points!
Though I haven't been tracking it, I have been losing weight over the last year; about 10 pounds. I have been in college since I joined SP (I joined when I started noticing the freshman 15 creeping up on me). In total I gained about 30 pounds since being a freshman. I have gotten rid of 10 of that, and want to get rid of at least 10 more! I have a busy life, but I hope to be logging in more often now and keep myself motivated, especially with the holiday season upon us!

Ihave been on SP for over a year now. lost 70 pounds but after my husband died in April I gained 40 back. Moved to the country from Buffalo and became lazy and depressed except at work. I was off an on here months at a time but I just moved BACK to the city and getting back into my groove again. Im a Beachbody Coach and I miss coaching and inspiring others!! Good Morning! Hello all I'm new here to this group. However I'm not new to this process. I've fallen off the wagon and apparently I realized at my last doctor's appointment that I have gained more weight and am heavier than I've EVER been. I'm slightly depressed about it, but I know that there is only one thing that I can do about it, and that is keep looking forward and ahead. I have to see myself healthier, and sexy. My doctor told me that there are some things because of my family history (diabetes and high blood pressure) that are inevitable. The only thing that is smart for me to do is delay the inevitable. My mom was diagnosed at 47 my father was diagnosed at 62...15 years delay. My mom was the one who ate right, my dad is the one who exercised. I figure my odds are good if I eat right and exercise I wont see a diagnosis until about 80! (sorry so long!)

I've done my first workout of the day. I plan to take a walk after lunch and maybe again after dinner. Have a great day!

Hi team! I live in Brooklyn. I just wanted to say to the person who decided to lose weight without the surgery...GOOD FOR YOU!!! Please, don't get me wrong, I'm not against the surgery. In fact, I had the surgery 2 years ago. And I did lose all the weight. I went from 250 to 119, which is where I'm at now. But I've had MAJOR complications. I was that 1 patient that had Murphy's Law happen to her. I went into the hospital in February of 2010, thinking I would be out the next day, and did not get out of there until April 2010 after 3 surgeries. Then, for the next 2 months, I was in and out of the hospital and I needed another 2 surgeries. All in all, 5 surgeries in 4 months. And I recently needed surgery AGAIN this past March because I live in excruciating pain everyday of my life and they can't figure out why. Unfortunately, because I had Gastroparesis before my surgery, I am unable to reverse it because they completely removed the excess part of my stomach. So it looks like I will be spending the rest of my life depending on pain medication to be able to eat or drink anything. Even after all that, I would NEVER tell someone not to have the surgery. I know my situation is EXTREMELY rare. But I would HIGHLY recommend for a person to try it on their own first. I wish you all the best in the world. Sorry for rambling, but I thought telling my story may help you, or anyone else, to stick to their guns & do it yourself. Good luck! To you & all the Sparkpeople members!

Fantastic. You made the right choice. What most people don't realize, is that after the surgery, they can only eat a few Tablespoons at a time. If you eat the same way on your own. Little bitty meals frequently, you eat because you WANT to not because your body is FORCING you to. Let me find some emoticons. I don't know how to use emoticons.

Hello every one. My name is Doug. I live about 40 miles west of Albany. After a bout of congestive heart failure, I have lost 80 pounds. Need to lose about 100 more. i'm very happy to see rain. My lawn is past dormant, and almost to dead. In fact, even with 3 days of rain this week, there are still brown spots with no green poking through.
Wondering if there are any team members anywhere near Rochester? Would love to have a walking buddy.

This is a very active support site, so find some spark teams you'd like to join, and then you'll be good to go. I am especially fond of 50+ with 10 to 25 pounds to lose, but then I'm a senior. You look a little younger. There are also sparkteams for people with other goals and interests. THe gardeners team is a nice one too. Good luck!

I'm back after a 2yr hiatus..My goal is to lose at least 50 lbs and keep it off...I lost 30 lbs a yr and half ago and gained every bit of it back. Gonna stay focused this time around.

Oh my. Looking at the past posts, most of you have lost a lot of weight. I lost about 12 pounds in 3 months. And since then it's been very difficult to lose any more. Jst a half pound here and there in the past 2 months. I need some motivation. I think that is the main reason i wanted to try a new group. This is the introduce your self page. Hi!

Just got engaged and having Midnight in Paris French theme wedding Sun Aug 18, 2013.

Goals/Motivations:

1. Trying to get motivated to get off my ass and lose weight so I dont look like a cow in my dress or next to my skinny ass bridesmaids. lol So wake up at 630AM everyday and jump on treadmill, drink 8 cups water, & take my vitamin.

2. Plus be a good role model for my 4 yr old daughter. My mom was a very bad influence, so I have to get over that and be a healthy mom. My fiance helps. He's super active and helped me do my first 5K in 2010 (37min 40sec). Did not do so good this year (2011) but atleast I did it.

I was in the Navy as helicopter electrician for 4 yrs, so I know what to do (exercises, food, etc), just dont do it. I stay committed for a week and then something overwhelms or exhausts me in life and I get depressed and tired and stop everything. And takes me awhile to get going again.

So here I go again! :) Good luck to you all too!!

Week 1 - 1/3/12 - My goal is to lose 2-3lbs/week = 40lbs +-
