Hi! I'm 63 and find it sad that I have been yo yo dieting most of my adult life! I'm hoping that this way of eating will change that.
I've done a lot of research and there are so many tools on the web for this diet. One of the better ones I found was http://www.chewfo.com/diets/the-fast-metab
olism-diet-by-haylie-pomroy-2013-what-
to-eat-and-foods-to-avoid-food-list/#p
hase2portions
it is a site that gives all the info in a nutshell.
There are all 3 phases on pinterest for food ideas.
And Haylie Pomroy's personal site is very informative plus her Facebook page.
I'm on my 4th day and have lost 4 lbs. Day 3 & 4 were killers but oh I'm loving Ph3! Except I get to full!
Another great site is on Facebook FMD Support Group. It has all the charts, recipes etc.
I wish everyone the best success on this journey!

Hi Rochelle, and welcome! I'm just beginning week 2 now, and really excited about this program. I keep printouts of the food lists, meal maps and portion sizes handy for easy reference, but soon enough, it will become more familiar as I learn what foods I like and when I can have them. It's a different approach that so far is very satisfying.

The first few days may be tough as your body readjusts to different nutrition, but you'll find yourself not craving sugar/carbs by the time you get to phase 3. Hang in there, and good luck!

Hi!
My name is Rochelle. I am a 55 year old Nursing Student, mom of 18 year-old twins, wife of a basketball referee and someone in dire need of losing weight. Haylie's book was recommended to me by my doctor, she is a firm believer because she has SEEN the results in her patients.
I'm not hesitant to say that a lot of my battle is mental. That "head hunger" gets me for the most part. Sadly enough that thing of having someone wait on me, or bring my order, or even having my sale "approved" at a drive through that makes me feel "good" about myself and trips me up as well.
I want to be here for my family, I want to find out what God has for me once I graduate in December 2015. I have so much I want to do, and now the weight is starting to take its toll. Injuries take longer and longer to heal, blood pressure and cholesterol are a battle... so I'm ready for a new day.
Appreciate any and all prayers emoticon

Thanks for your comment Mickie, and best of success to you and everyone else getting started on this journey.

I first heard of this program on another forum where some people were getting great results, so I did some further investigating and liked what I found. It's a healthy, clean program, and one I think will be sustainable. I recently learned this type of diet is called Carb-Cycling, which Chris Powell from Extreme Weight Loss has his own program that he puts his dieters on. I have his book requested at the library and will be interested in comparing the two programs.

Welcome, Angela!

I relate to so much of what you said. I could see myself getting more and more carb-resistant with time, and I had a big "Aha!" moment when I heard Haylie say we MAKE our bodies carb resistant by avoiding them completely.

So...I was very willing to try her plan. After my 2 higher carb days (Phase 1), I was not breaking the doors down due to cravings, and my hunger levels did not go through the roof.

Maybe it's the types of carbs?

So, I'm willing to give her plan a go and see where it takes me. So far (2 days, LOL) it has taken the scale DOWN, and I like that direction!

Hi! I'm Angela from central WI. I'm 48 w/two young daughters, and work full-time as a graphic designer. I just started 7/14 on the Fast Metabolism Diet. I have struggled all my life with my weight, and recently had amazing success with the Ideal Protein diet (most similar to phase 2 of FMD) which was my first introduction to a low-carb plan. I lost 90 lbs! But that was short-lived as I gradually gave in to temptations, and ended up back on the same old cycle of recommitting to a diet and falling off the wagon, yo-yo-yo-yo. :-(

I did learn that carbs are where things go downhill quickly for me, and when I overeat carbs, they have a negative effect on the hormones which determine how the body responds to food that is eaten, both mentally and physically.

I'm really impressed with the science behind The Fast Metabolism Diet because it allows me to eat carbs and fruit that were forbidden on my previous program. It's tricky to learn at first - basically three different programs and what I can eat when - but I love a challenge and know this program will work for me if I work the program!

I am Mickie, and I live in north central Alabama.

I have been married for almost 21 years to my high school sweetheart, and we have a 16 yr old boy and 13 yr old girl.

I teach 8th grade math.

I, too, saw this on Dr. Oz today. My body has become completely resistant to losing weight. I've been on a ketogenic diet (20-50 g of carbs a day), and while I stopped gaining, I could not lose.

I am extremely carb-resistant, but I'm willing to try the phase approach of the Fast Metabolism Diet to see if it straightens my metabolism out.

Hi. I am Pam, living presently in Greenville SC.

Just say this on the Dr Oz show and then googled and found out the basics of the book so I could start

Everybody tells me that they would love to knit, but they don't have time. I look at people's lives and I can see opportunity and time for knitting all over the place. The time spent riding the bus each day? That's a pair of socks over a month. Waiting in line? Mittens. Watching TV? Hi, I'm Karen.Living in beautiful BC.. Anyone else out there? I had 'given up' dieting when a friend showed up, thinner than the last time I saw her. She raved about FMD. Said no at first but gave in! Found the food was alot to eat at first but after a week it was okey. Wasn't able to do it properly first week due to moving our office. Did pretty good the next three weeks. I have lost 14 pounds now, Suprised myself when I actually put it in the weight tracker. Pleasant surprise I must say.
I took a week off and went on a holiday. Super happy that I came back with no weight gain!

Must admit tho it took another week to get back on track. Finding food a little bland so I'm really looking for good recipes and encouragement this time. I tend to 'tweek' and need to not do that. My two tweeks I have not given up - my cup of tea in a.m. (black tea with milk) and on Friday night I have a glass of wine (with one glass of water on the side!) as one of my carbs for evening.
Need some good recipes...wanna share encourage and with me along the way....cuz I need it

Hi my name is Janet. I was looking for something to give my metabolism a kick and searched SparkPeople and found this group. Downloaded the book and spent the weekend reading it through. I also downloaded the App on my phone and it really helps to keep you from making mistakes as I can see that would be easy. I'm not going into this with unrealistic expectations but had been at a plateau and wanted to give myself a push. For P1 it does look like a lot of food but they are all good so I think it will balance itself out. Bought some of the foods but I can see I will have trouble finding some others as well. Hope to be successful even if it gets me through the plateau. Thanks

Hello, my name is Lisa, or can be called Kitten.

I started my first round one on May 5th, pretty reluctantly and suspicious because I really dont believe in all the "fad" diets out there, however my own therapist recommended Hailey's book to at least get me started losing weight once again. I have been on Spark on and off since 2007, I have reached my goal once then life and medications caused me to gain all back and plus lots of extra. As I read her book I loved the variety and how the phases were set up. The only thing I refused to give up completely is my coffee BUT I did go from a full pot of full caffeine to 1 cup of 1/2 caff coffee. I drink lots of lemon/lime water and cook a lot more. However there are still days in which I dont eat so well when as a family we are out and about and stop somewhere to eat. Week one I lost 8 lbs., week two lost 4 lbs., week 3 lost 3 lbs., I am in week 4 now. This week is going to be really difficult since we are out of money till Friday and am out of Phase specific foods. I did make the Chicken and Rice soup(instead of barely) and Turkey chili on Sunday so I have plenty of those in the fridge and freezer. I am however out of fresh veggies and meats to eat in Phase 2 so I am guessing I will stick to phase 1 until payday and I can go shopping again.

Hello! My name is Alona, aka "LaLa"

When I started this new journey back on February 1st, 2014 I was 5'2" and approximately 218 pounds. My goal is to also lose 65 pounds and be in a size 8 by December 31st. To date, I have shed around 31 pounds and lost 2 pants sizes. I started in an 18 and now I'm in a 14. I may exceed the size 8 but we'll see. I may also get to 150 and want to go down 10 more pounds to 140. I'm really not sure. My goal this journey is to push myself a little bit more.

As to date, I have gained about a pound back and can't lose anymore than 1 pound a week. I believe it's because I'm eating too many carbs and not enough protein.

"Difficult? YES!!! Impossible? NO!!!!"

Good morning .. my name is Donna .. and I will be starting another round of FMD tomorrow .. I did one complete 28 day cycle and lost 14 pounds .. then did another half but should have taken a week of for popcorn and a few cold beer ..lol should of had a break between rounds .. so after 2 months of holding my own ..I'm back on with Haylie tomorrow and looking forward to feeling wonderful again .. I felt so so good when I was faithful .. the weight never came back but I know it could in a second if I didn't exercise like nuts and stick to a bit of the program .. so going to give this 100% for 28 days again .. and re-read the book plus try some new recipes from the cookbook ..

Good luck to you all ..take the best care of you that you can !!

Happy Mother's Day to all ... sending you a sprinkling of love to let you know you are perfect!!

Hi! my name is Margaret and I have been on SP for 3 years now. I've lost 70lbs thanks to my lapband, diet and exercise. Lost 40lbs pre surgery and 30 after. I have 20 more to go and have been stalled for a year! Several people recommended FMD to me so here I am. Will be starting Phase 1 on Monday.

Wish me Luck!

I am winding up my first week and everything you say is true. It seems so overwhelming but day by day the shopping, cooking and eating fall into place. I found it very expensive to start out but as I go into my 2nd week I can reuse a lot of the foods and now feel I know what I am doing. Good luck...1 week and I already feel better!!!!

Hi everyone, my name is Carol and I've been Sparking for 3 years now. I've lost over 40lbs in that time and reached my goal weight, but the last 4 or 5 months I've been really struggling and my "old" strategies are just not working and I'm craving all the wrong things and the lbs are piling back on.

A fellow sparker blogged about this diet as she's just coming to the end of the 28 days and had great success, so I bought the book a week ago, and it seems to make a lot of sense. Hopefully this will be a good way to kick my metabolism back into gear and get me back on track. The recipes look good and the plan sensible.

I've found it quite hard work sorting out the meal maps and working out all my shopping for the first week, but after a good number of hours, I am now ready to start on Monday. Shopping ordered and I'll be cooking loads on Sunday to get ready.

I bought the book on the Kindle, as it was really had to find the recipes properly, but I've now copied the lists and recipes so they are easy to follow and feel ready. Can't wait to start now!

All the best to every one doing this.

Hi! My name is Nina and I am 55 years old (and I feel old). I saw Haylie on a re-run of Dr. Oz and I felt as though she was talking directly to me. I weighed 98 pounds when I got married 35 years ago. Back then all I had to do was stop eating for a few days, then I had to diet and I never stopped. I am paying for it now. I weigh 136 and want to get down to about 118. This is it, this is my last resort. If this doesn't work I give up. So I just got the books in the mail and I want to do this right from the very first day. I am going to read the whole book before I begin which will probably be the day after Easter. I am glad there is a site on SP...I have already done South Beach and Dukan through Spark People hahah. So I will be reading what everyone has to say and most likely asking questions. Thanks!

NWCOUNTRYDANCER.... Looks like we started the same day. Are you doing the menu out of the book? How's it going so far?

I started today. I did a min-start last week starting on Wednesday, but didn't have the book or all the recipes so I wasn't able to do a lot. I received my books as I was heading out of town Friday, so didn't get a chance to prep for the weekend. Overall I did well and lost a couple pounds. So excited!! Can't wait to see what happened when I make it all the way through.

AHHTIST - for the food, if it is unopened, maybe donate it to a food pantry?

I bought the book and cookbook and hope to start on Monday! It is a little daunting for sure. I missed the boat on the start last week. Giving up caffeine and all sugar is major! After looking at my pantry and fridge I am dreading throwing away so much stuff. My hubby is only home on weekends and he is diabetic so phase 2 and 3 won't be hard to adapt to his needs.
I'm hesitant to throw away good food ($!). Any others have this problem?

Well, I just started the FMD on Monday, 2/17/14. I am doing pretty good so far. On day 3 right now. Last night I found myself very hungry and tried to stave it off by drinking water but her book mentions eating phase appropriate veggies if hungry. Is this true? Also, does anyone know if mussels are ok on any of the phases? I have some in the freezer and wondered if I might partake emoticon

I hope to join the ranks of those who no longer count calories but eat the right combination of yummy foods and lose weight.

I'm so glad that SparkPeople now has this group!! I've done a few rounds of this diet and it really does work for me. I fell off (OK....I JUMPED and jumped willingly) during the holidays so I just recommitted and am starting round 2. I lost 12 pounds my first round and I am hoping to continue my loss with approx 1.5 - 2 pounds a week. It's really nice to meet you all!!

If you want to sing out, sing out.

I'm back after being gone for about 8 months.
I'm 57 years old and have over 100 lbs to lose to really get back to a weight I want to be. Over the last 6 months I've dropped about 17 pounds but still have a long way to go.

Hi! emoticon Glad to see some new people. I've used this diet before with success so I know you can di it too. I have a ways to go though so I'm keeping at it. I am noticing that that the more I lose the slower I lose....don't know if that makes any sense.

I did this last summer with great success. Some stress late in the year brought it all back. I've decided I need carbs in my life, so I'm following this plan and also bought Carb Lovers Diet to read. I don't have a lot of time to shop/cook so I do the best I can. I love seeing new ideas for recipes though and hope to keep healthier food in my family meal planning.

Hi newbies!! Almost the end of week 2 for me and everything is going pretty good -11.5. (I only counted 2.5 as I had gained 9lbs. between Thanksgiving and Christmas when I took some time off from the plan. Big mistake!! I just purchased the first cook book Haley had out and it is fantastic! Can't wait to have the buckwheat pancakes with fresh peach sauce! The first time on the eating plan I lost 23.5 lbs. just using my own recipes from the lists. I think this next time will be even tastier!! Good luck to us all!

Hi everyone, I have found that I did lose the weight on this plan I dont get down on myself if I cannot eat the right food at the right time. We cook in bulk and portion out our food in portion sizes and freeze it then all we have to do is pull out of the freezer and microwave it. We shop at normal stores most of the time and just read the list of what is in everything we eat. We had a health food store that just closed that we got some of our special breads etc at but they said when they closed that another health food store was planning on opening. Also now most of the other stores we shop at have organic sections.

I need a diet I can do my whole life and stop feeling so deprived. I now weigh between 185 and 190. To close to 200 for comfort. Starting the diet Monday, but already started phase 3 today. I am thrilled to find a diet that uses the food I already eat. Now I have a game plan to follow and I know the weight will fall off without feeling deprived. I am eating modified sushi tonight..yum. I am a Mother of five and started out on March 2012 at 278 pounds after my fifth child was born. Now I am closing in on my goal of 132. This is the first diet I have seen that I know I can follow and do it. I can't wait to see what a month from now looks like.

Hi everyone! I have been struggling to lose weight over the last five years or so. My coworker has been having success on this diet. I bought the book, and am planning to start on January 6th. I'm very excited to have a group of people dealing with the same things that I will be. emoticon

Hi!

I took two years to lose 135 pounds through diet and exercise and ended up weighing 135 pounds. I started running and psychologically felt that because I was exercising so hard, I should be able to eat more. I put back on 36 pounds. I have been yo-yoing back and forth 5 pounds for the past year. I lost 5 pounds from Jan. 1 - Nov 1. I started the FMD November 4 and have lost 10.5 pounds. I traveled exactly half of those days so even though I stuck to no sugar, wheat, corn, dairy, and soy or coffee, I wasn't always able to eat the correct veggies and other things on time or on the correct day so I'm very happy with 10.5 pounds. I am excited that eating so much works! I feel pretty good most of the time. Phase 2 is a little hard for me but since it lasts only 2 days, I can handle it. I am hoping the next cycle will get me back to my goal weight! Woo hoo!

Hi All -

I recently started the FMD. I've been on it a total of 3 days. Currently, I struggle with feeling like I am eating a lot - too much. I plan to stick with it for 28 days though. It helps that I think my energy level appears to be improving. That helps keep me motivated for now.

I've tried South Beach and the 17 Day Diet in the past and they are both pretty carb restricted, so this is a huge change for me.

Hi all! I'm Stacy. emoticon
I started the FMD to try to get off some of the "creeping" weight that I've acquired over the past year (plus, maybe a little more). I've been doing it 11 days now, and I'm down a total of 11.8 lbs! I'm only 2 lbs away from my lowest adult weight (which is still just _barely_ into 'normal' BMI). I'd like to lose another 10 or so more, but I expect that the losses are going to be slowing WAAYYYY down. LOL

I did a Whole30 a few months ago to try to kick my body back into gear, but I felt horrible pretty much the whole time. Weak, tired, kinda dizzy. Not good at all. :-/ So far, even with having a nasty cold last week, I've been feeling AMAZING on FMD.

A little background on me - I'm 38, married, no kids, two dachshunds. I'm a Medical Records Manager at a hospice in northern Nevada. Over the past 3 years, I've lost a total of 130 lbs. About half of that was lost doing physician-assisted HCG, the rest was lost doing a combo of low carb & Primal.

Hello everyone. I started the FMD and I am finishing the second week. I think I have followed the diet program honestly and did not cheat. I am down 4 pounds which is disappointing but interesting since I have eaten a lot of food. I am 70. I do follow the exercise program.
The book talks about losing some much weight in the first week. Friends and family are looking at me like this is not the way to eat. They just keep suggesting to cut calories. Yeh, I did that for 50 years and still not much success.
I really want this to work. I will stay on the program for the complete 28 days. I find this program difficult since I did not do that much cooking, preparing, and now shopping in every health food store just to find the products.
Any help with brands, tricks to the trade. Any help where I might be making mistakes? I have over 40 pounds to lose and I am following the recommended size.
I have such great hopes for this program but I am having a difficult time with it today. I am glad I found this team emoticon emoticon

Hello guys !

I bought the book The Fast metabolism diet this week, and I am ready to re-start my metabolism on Monday, November 4th!
I have 20 pounds to lose and more important, I need to KEEP my weight this way after. I also tried all the diets existing.
But I know diets don't work. Only changing your eating habits do, and you relationship to food.
Unfortunately, I'm French, and I put cream and cheese in all my dish ;)

But I am 28, and I am tired no to like what I see in the mirror, it's time for a change!

I'll keep you posted! Let's go!

Hi, Everyone! I am reading the book and planning on shopping/prepping tomorrow with Day 1 on Wednesday. I am not much of a cook. I have lost and gained back over 100 pounds several times and have been on a diet since age 5. Now, at age 52, after a horrible divorce job loss, & move (starting my life over) I need to lose 200. EEK. I try not to get overwhelmed by how far I have to go. I truly pray that this way of eating kicks in my metabolism and I can heal my relationship with food and with my body!

My husband and I started the diet towards the end of June. I lost 15 lbs in the first month and have been maintaining since. We stuck to the diet to the letter for the first month, and have been sticking really close to it since. We treat ourselves once or twice a week but try not to overdo. It's a great diet, and not too hard to stick to after the first week or so (I had a hard time getting over being off caffeine).

I am a person of infinite possibilities and dreams.

Welcome!

You are right in that the fam can eat this way as well. They don't even know any different. I might fix a little something extra for them that I can't have, I just don't put it on my plate. Everyone is happy :)

Best of luck!

Hello , I am going to start this diet next Monday. Just after payday so I can get everything I need and start cooking it all next weekend to begin on Monday. I do great on diets but as the diet goes I fall slowly back into my " it's ok to have this I work out or will do 10 extra min, until the weight is almost all back. I did the 17day and lost a lot but its was to hard to keep it up. Anyway I saw this on dr oz as well and thought I would try it. The food seems like something I can make the family as well.

Welcome!!

No, I have been at it for a little while also, but got distracted with trying this or that, when I should have just left well enough alone. Needless to say, weight loss screeeeeeeeched to a halt, and I have been losing the same pounds over and over for a very.long.time. Just enough activity to make me really think I was really getting somewhere.

I was feeling good, and eating healthy though, and I learned I could maintain. So not a total loss, but now it is time to finish up this part of the journey :)

Best of luck on your journey!
Melinda

Hi y'all,

I went with my daughter to her Dr. and while waiting I was reading Woman's World and found this Metabolism Makeover article. That is how I found out about Haylie Pomroy.

I have been a member of SP for over 5 years and am still not at my goal weight. I have learned a lot "the hard way" by trying everything from Low Carb, Low Fat, etc. I have thought for years that my total hysterectomy when I was 28 and chemo for breast cancer at age 45 has had my body messed up from hormones, progesterone to metabolism and who knows what else.

Even though I have't bought the book yet, everything I have read on the net and videos I have seen seams like something that may work for me.

GOPINTOS, I see that you have lost 61 pounds. That is emoticon Have you done it with this The Fast Metabolism Diet?

Hi I joined your group about a week ago but never got around to saying Hi. I am 55, not 51, and I am not fit. But hopefully that will change. I first saw Haylie on Dr Oz and was impressed by what she claimed. Couldn't wait for the book to come out but then got caught up in the craziness of a move from rainy Oregon to beautifully sunny and right now very HOT Southern Utah. Been unpacking and no extra time to read the book and get organized. I'm hoping things settle down soon and I can start this new way of life. I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you better and hear about your success.

Hi everyone. I just found out about this book and have ordered it. I have been diagnosed with hypothryoidism a couple of years ago. Losing the weight has been an almost losing battle which is frustrating considering I lost 40 pounds the first 6 months of changing my lifestyle. My doctor and I are at a loss of what to do now, so this book looks good. I look forward to reading it as soon as it hits my mailbox. Thanks for the invite.

Hey there!

Though I dont follow my own advice, I know it is best not to weigh daily. Just too many fluctuations, like water after your carb days. Weekly is best, to get a true measure of your results.

We need the carbs, the fats, and all the fluctuations that goes along with that, in order for the fat loss magic to occur. It is part of the necessary evil. So the true picture is once a week. Or even at the end of the 28 days.... but I know I could never wait for that emoticon

I am anxious to see your progress! emoticon

Hi everybody! I just started day 3 today. I'm a bit disappointed because I haven't seen any weight loss yet, but I did have a bad headache yesterday (I think it might have been hormone induced because I'm about to start my period) and I'm wondering if the stress of the headache stunted any metabolism shift. Anyway, I'm doing my proteins today and looking forward to it after 2 days of so many carbs!

Welcome Janet & Courtney!!!
We hope this does what you need for it. I am neither hypothyroid, nor diabetic. But my husband is a 45 year type 1 diabetic. While I have found great success with this diet. And I know he could also do well with it, phase 2 would be a real challenge for him. I have not read carefully the parts of the book where she talks about these conditions. I wish you all the success in the world, but please be very conscientious and check your glucose very regularly. We want you very happy and healthy. I believe it can work, it likely just takes some more diligence. (Pretty much what you have to do every day anyway, right!)
Will pray for lots of success!!!

Hi Janet and welcome!!

I was not diagnosed, and my thyroid tested okay, though I don't think they did enough tests, but the scale was just not budging for a very long time. Like months and months. A little movement, then back up. UP, down, up down. Just enough to make me think I was making progress. I was eating better, no junk, but full on fewer and fewer calories, and I was low carbs for way too long. (I missed the part about refeeds or else I might have been okay)

FMD really seemed to be the boost I needed. Same foods I was eating, just this combination made all the difference.

Best of luck to you! I really hope this helps you too!
Melinda

Hi Everyone! I just purchased the Kindle version of the book so I will begin sometime next week once I have read enough to get started. I am diabetic and hypothyroid and want to lose 100+ that just does not seem to budge. I was about to go through The Plan but once I got the invite and looked into this and saw it focused on promoting thyroid function I was SOLD! I have high hopes. emoticon
