Hi Lise,
I do zumba at home with DVDs and the Wii. Going to classes sounds like so much fun but with the schedule I'm on, not possible for me.
I have two grandsons, ages 10 and 11. It was the 10 year old who I was speaking of in my prior post. They live with us (along with my daughter and her hubby.)
I have 3 daughters, all married but only one with kids (so far, unless we count "grand-dogs" and "grand-cats". LOL )
Good to get to know more about you!

Giving up is not an option.

I was just re-reading your introduction. We have a lot in common. Like you, I love to walk and Zumba. I'm looking forward to going to Canada in September because I will do Zumba classes again. I also have some DVDs here but it's not the same when you're doing it by yourself. How old is your grand-son? I have frour grand-children (aged 20 down to 13). I am looking forward to seeing them again in September.

Hugs. Lise

Hey Linda---You Rock! I absolutely love women who won't give up! And isn't it great when you can show your grandson that just cause we're older doesn't mean we're going to give up and go away? You are setting a great example for him. He may not realize it now, depending on his age, but you are impacting the type of partner he chooses later in life.
I also did WW for about 6 years and lost about 50 lbs. but it wasn't due to the plan. I like WW and think it is a healthy way of eating and it works for most people. I just have a very slow metabolism and proved to my doctor that it wasn't what I was eating that was the problem. He prescribed meds to increase my metabolism which is how I lost most of my weight. My slow metabolism finally became hypothyroidism so now I take even more meds to speed up my metabolism. I still have about 40 lbs to lose. I have a horrible sense of direction. I want to know how this weight I keep losing keeps finding it's way back to my gut??? It can't possibly be my weight, it must be some navigators weight! Keep up the great attitude and we'll both get there Linda.

emoticon Hello there and emoticon to Spark People and to our team!

What I love on Spark People is that the support is unlimited! You need motivation, read up on the success stories and/or post a query and someone will be there to help you along. It is always difficult to start something new but Spark People make it so easy for us all to achieve our ultimate goals. Take it step by step: a) study the site, b) incorporate good habits from the beginning, c) start exercising, etc.

Most of us here on Spark People have had just about the same history as you. Not to worry. What I have found over time is that remaining active online (tracking, posting, reading, etc.) keeps your motivation going. I've been on this site for over 4 years now. No, I haven't reached my ultimate goal, but I will! I believe in making this journey a slow but a lasting one.

Good luck on your journey and if you need help at any point, just drop a line and we'll get back to you as soon as possible. emoticon

I've been losing weight since 2009. I've lost over 40 lbs with WeightWatchers and have a bit more to lose. Recently I was diagnoised as pre-diabetic and cholesterol too high. I also have high blood pressure. I needed to track my food with more detail so here I am. Looking forward to connecting with other sparkpeople.
My weight loss journey has not been a straight line. I've had a long plateau after losing 30, a regain of 15. since March 2012, I've lost about 30 lbs, including re-losing the 15. I like walking and zumba. I also do some pilates and strength training. I started zumba when I was almost 61 years old. I wasn't very good at it. I moved slower and had to rest and skip some of the moves. My grandson said to me, "Grandma, you do better at the slow speed." He was right. But now, I can keep up with the DVDs and I even use weights while doing zumba. More recently when my grandson was trying to do zumba with me he said, "Grandma, aren't you out of breath?" Actually, I wasn't.
