Hi my name is BeBe. I probably should have done this a few months back but, truth be told ... I'm a bit of a tortoise shy, timid and slow to warm up. I'm getting better at it. I have been on this weight loss/ healthy life style kick for about a year now. I have had some progress but I'm sure I could have more with the proper external motivation. I am a full time student and a part time employee . . . life is hectic . . but I still want to figure out how to make health and fitness a permanent everyday part of my life. Um, hi there! Looks like I should've introduced myself quite awhile back....but I was trying to get used to navigating the site, so it seems this introduction didn't happen.

I've been staying at home this year to help my daughter with her baby, but now I'm about to go back to work (and it's a little nerve-wracking, let me tell you!).

So far I've lost about 7 lbs (probably more, but I never weighed in at my highest weight....was too embarrassed) and have upped my activity from basically zero to 1 hour of cardio 4 to 5 days a week. Plus I've been tracking my nutrition, which really helps.

My big goal is to run the Spartan next May.

Hello everybody, I'm Meegan from Southern Maryland and I'm 38. I'm trying to lose a little over 100 pounds and this time I really feel like I'm on to something. It's been hard because I work two jobs, I have a husband and son and long commute, but I'm really committed this time. My biggest challenge is tracking every day. If I find I'm busy and too many meals slide by I don't do it and I need to. So my goal this week is to have everything up to date before I go to bed and see what a difference that makes.

Right now I'm at: 253.2 and my official weigh-ins are on Wednesday.

Next goal: 249.9. I just want to get below the next decade!

Hi all,

I'm new to SP but have been on MFP in the past (still am, kind of, but not really logging anymore). I joined because I'm hoping to find a fresh and motivating look at health and fitness. I'm 34, engaged, just bought a house (moving next month!), work from home full-time as of December last year, and rarely ever get out to do anything fitness-related anymore. I do have a small dog that I walk 3x a day, but that's about it.

My job is pretty intense and requires more or less constant sitting-at-desk for about 9 hours or more, so I'm really grateful for NEEDING to take the dog out! Fitness- and health-wise, I'm obviously not where I want to be, but:

- earlier this month I "ran" a fun 5K (more like walked and jogged a bit), and had so much fun that I decided to buy running shoes for real and download C25K.
- I haven't used it yet.
- I was raised vegetarian (lacto-ovo), but raised on mostly carbs, and slowly adjusting to not eating pasta or potatoes every day.
- I briefly started lifting weights at the gym earlier this year before I cancelled the membership out of need to save some money/the fact that I wasn't going often. I kind of loved the weights.
- I'm about 35 pounds overweight, mostly in the butt and thighs, but starting to see it in the tummy and arms too.
- I know I shouldn't eat 1200 or less, but also am not sure anymore of what my actual TDEE and BMR are.

I could use any and all advice! Glad to meet you all.

Hello Everyone,

I'm glad to find a social site that can help with providing a place to track and vent my fitness and weight goals. I'm 30 and miss how I used to feel when I was fit and active, but single. Now I'm married but not so thin and active. I only have about 15 to 20 pounds to lose, but I know the journey to that goal is what will keep me feeling good again. I have a lot of outdoor fitness interests and the Spring weather is motivating! I've enjoyed my start so far by drinking lots of water and taking a long walk with my golden retriever each day with my tunes playing. So far, I'm motivated and hope this keeps up. I can see myself reaching my goal with this site.

Hi Everyone,

Nice to see everyone posting and getting acquainted. Still getting use to the site. Meant to introduce myself last week but I guess it is better late then never.

I am in my thirties and married with two dogs. I have a few extra pounds that I need to get rid of and just want to feel good and energized. Part of my reason for joining the site is to "find" myself. You know that healthy, hi-energy with a zest for life version of myself that I lost or left behind as I was too busy with that thing called "adulthood" .

Yeah for going for a walk. Don't be nervous. I remember back when I was 350 pounds and thought this was impossible. Look for 2 or 3 small changes you can make immediately and make them. Examples would be leaving the cream out of your coffee. Eliminating dessert. Drinking water instead of a soda.

Set a small goal (10-15 lbs). Let me know if I can help!

Hi everyone!
Today I bought an exercise ball because they looked funny at the gym. So I went to google to find some tutorials and I ended up registering here.
Seems I'm one of the few guys here. Also I'm not from USA, but from Chile (in south america, not the mexican food jajaja).

Hi,
I'm Clara. I just joined SP a couple days ago. My first two days were pretty good. Eating clean and getting some movement. Today I went for a wonderful two-hour walk with my dogs that left me feeling exhausted and craving carbs and protein like mad. I went over my calorie allotment for the day. emoticon
I wonder if I'll burn them off tomorrow while running errands in town?

Hello to my new team members. I am 53 yrs and 57 lbs over my designated healthy weight..Yikes! I have been married for 30 years, have homeschooled and raised three kids and am now a Grandma. We have just moved (still in boxes) and I am on the brink of painting my first body of work. It is time for me to set some boundaries and focus on me. I'm here under advice of my nutritionist, who showed me all the great tools here since I'm now officially calorie counting which is a huge and scary thing for me. Doing well so far and hope to lose over 100 pounds in total, although my short-range goal is smaller.

Hello! I have perused and even signed up on spark a few months ago but I have not done a thing with it! I would really like to try and use this to reach my goals but it almost seems like a full time job just to navigate the site and figure out how to use it all! That is where I get stuck! Any suggestions on how to keep it simple and get started??
I am married with 6 children,4 grown and 2 young ones still at home that I home school. I used to be a 6 mile a day runner but the last decade of a very busy and full, life life has taken it's toll and i have alot ( 100lbs ! )of weight to loose. I also just moved to a new state. I need focus, consistency, and HELP!!

Hi Everyone,
I'm a late-20-something in the midwest looking for a group to help motivate me and keep me accountable. After initially losing 10+ lbs more than five years ago, I failed to maintain it and gained back double. I've been unhappy with my weight and constantly yo-yoing ever since. I'm a fairly introverted person and I never put much on the web, but I realized what might be missing from my weight loss efforts is the social component - a group of people I can talk to about my triumphs and setbacks. I hope this will help me sort through my dieting flubs and keep going. I'm one of those people who knows exactly what I SHOULD do but I have a hard time doing it - I'm most definitely an stress/boredom eater but I love running, and recently completed a marathon, though I didn't lose any weight in the process. I know that losing 20lbs will help me feel better about myself, be a sign of better diet, and keep my knees in better shape as I continue to run more.

Hi There I'm Karla I live in Kansas I have two beautiful daughters, two great son in laws and an adorable grandbaby I have two furbabies who live with me Zak and Dakota they are both mini schnauzers Zak is all white and Dakota is suppose to be a black schnauzer but he is getting lighter as the time goes by, I also think he has some poodle in him because hes pretty curly LOL but I wouldn't trade him for anything. I am single, and I enjoy craft painting on wood or other media that I can get my hands on. I'm actually looking forward to this weight loss journey so the next time my daughter comes home from CA she will say wow momma you look great!

Welcome, GOLDENSAND2! So glad to have you here!! It is such a great thing that you are doing for your child! Your child will be grateful for this as he or she gets older!!!

By controlling your sugar, do you mainly mean to lose weight, or do you have diabetes issues as well?

If you have problems with diabetes, I urge you to check out the community tab, and look to also join teams with a specific dietary focus. There are so many great diabetes resources on SP as well.

Even if you didn't mean diabetes, it is good for other members to know, so thanks for making me think to mention it!

I was once here but left and I am now back. I want to get my sugar under control. I have a 4 year old and can't afford for something to go wrong with me. I also want to lose weight so I may look better.


Because of my 4 year old I have to be the best I can be.
One of my ways of being the best is get my sugar down by trimming down.

Hi everybody! My name is Mandi. I'm a nurse and the mom of a wonderful 13 year old boy. I am looking to lose some weight, but mostly have more energy and feel younger again. A lot of times, I feel very lazy. I have dropped 22 pounds since last July and am looking forward to getting rid of about 49 more. I have been doing the Atkins diet (or my version of it), and have been successful so far. I think I'm going to transition soon to adding some whole grains back in and switching to the lower fat foods (as long as they don't have too many carbs!)

I enjoy walking, reading, spending time with my family

By the way, I hope I'm posting this correctly. I can't figure out how to post along with everyone else's posts.

Hello! I live in California, I'm self-employed (well, basically unemployed), middle-aged, no kids. I've always struggled with my weight but am currently at a weight (and size) that just shocks me. I need some motivation to get out there and exercise! emoticon

Hello STARTINGOVER43 and ALWAYSHUNGRY11 - welcome!

I share some of your same issues. Being an emotional eater and also having a hard time to control my appetite, I feel you both! STARTINGOVER43, I am so sorry to hear about your separation and the external issues you are facing. There are many support groups on SP, and I if you look through the teams in the Communities tab, I think you can find specific support for your needs if you want it.

There are tons of resources to help you both in the SP articles and tools. I use various methods to take control of food instead of food taking control of me. Best wishes on your path to finding what methods work for you!!!

Just a note about being hungry - in the first few days/weeks of cutting back on calories, I was SO hungry I thought I could eat a house. But I found that after my body physically adapted, now I am actually not so hungry anymore. But for a little while, you need to strongly fight the urge to eat yourself silly until your body gets used to a sensible eating plan. But don't worry, it gets way easier!!!

I still get "hungry" when upset or emotional, but I try to do an activity to distract myself until that fake hunger goes away. This is also something that gets easier to control as time goes by!!

Hello...I am here to "start over". I have recently been through a separation and worry that I could retreat and use food as comfort for the loss. I am hoping with the help of this site and everyone that I won't be temped and can become healthy during this healing process. Looking forward to meeting everyone. emoticon

Hi Stephanie, welcome!!

emoticon on losing 7 lbs! Keep on pushing! You are already a healthier you!

As for the weight loss ticker:
-Go to your start page (click the "My Trackers" drop down menu above and select START)
-Find the tiny little link for "Account/Email Preferences" under "Welcome WHEREISSHE!"
-Open the "Community" tab
-Click "Signature & Ticker" button
-Check Box "Yes! Show my ticker on the Message Boards and my SparkPage."
-Select the ticker you want (sounds like you want the first option - therefore, enter your starting and goal weight)
-Scroll down and chose the background and ticker icon that you want
-Optionally you can add other text (quotes, info about yourself, etc) for your signature that will end up in your message board posts
-You can also change your profile pic here if you want

Hi my name is Stephanie, I live in East Texas with my 6 year old daughter. I'm 29 years old and I've never been this fat in my whole life. My goal is to lose 50 lbs. I am already down 7 lbs. as of today!!

I'm Stacey, I live in British Columbia in Canada. I'm a mom of two boys (7 an 9) that I cannot keep up with. I need to lose nearly 90 lbs. I've struggled with weight loss for over 30 years now and I absolutely have to make a change. It's beginning to affect my health.

Hi, I'm Nicola :)
I live in New Zealand, I'm 25 (26 in 11 days) and a mum of 3 kiddies (5 years, 21 months and 8 months).
I would like to lose around 13kg - 28lb. Need to learn how to eat healthy food and enjoy it! and should really learn about portion size.
I walk alot already, between 2-3 hours a day.

Hello Team!

My name is Kelly and I live in Brussels Belgium, but I am about to move to Germany this summer. I lost 50 lbs with SP 4 years ago, and then I got distracted with life, stopped logging in to SP, and gained it all back (and then some!). I came back this time last year, and I've lost 55 lbs since then. I'm now entering "maintenance mode" - and I'm determined not to gain it back again!

I'm so excited to help share what I've learned about SP with all of you, and to support you while you start this journey!

Little did you know, but while I'm helping you out, you'll be helping me! By dedicating myself to this SP Class team, I'll have to stay connected to SP and my maintenance goals!
