Hey G It sounds like you are ready to make a change. great that you started here before Christmas. So many will begin like gangbusters on Jan 1 and be out of the gym by Jan 21.

Hope to see you interact often there are many many good people here! I started many times over the years but was 232 last Dec 26, 2012. I started here in March and have lost about a pound a week on average. 80% eating but an important 20% activity.

YOU CAN do it! Habit change is incremental and one step at a time expanding that comfort zone.

Nothing is a straight line of success either. I gained 6 pounds over the holidays, but..... i didn't totally lose those good habits I have been cultivating over 2013!

I would begin by writing down short term goals. Important that you can see them daily. good guidance here for motivation quotes, etc.

Hi Nicole, welcome to SP and to the group. Ive been there, done that, got the bumper sticker. I was unhealthy for a very long time and was only slim once in my life and that was about it... now, things are different and I have had a very epic journey.

Really glad to find this place, even though the podcast seems to be dead. I'm hoping to make some friends here. I'm still brand new to SparkPeople so I'm still figuring out how things work. I need to set up my profile page (or whatever it's called) and lots of other stuff!

I'm 39 (40 in 2.5 months) 5'4", and 246 lbs. I was a chubby teenager and turned into a fat adult. I have no idea what it feels like to be thin. I have no idea what it feels like to be flirted with by a random stranger. I have no idea what it feels like to enjoy physical activity and eating right. Ha. I've said so many times that I was ready to get serious about this, but I think....now I actually mean it. I'd like to get down to 140.

I've had pre-diabetic blood sugar levels at my last two physicals and I don't want that to progress. I have severe anxiety issues, a heart defect (had open heart surgery 9 years ago and a pacemaker implanted five months ago), sleep apnea, and no energy at all. I know that exercising and eating right would help me fix all of these problems. I guess I'm finally more tired of being broken than I am comfortable being fat and sick.
